For our Round 4 Feature Match, we have two older strategies that Duelists have managed to find success with here at YCS Montréal. On one hand, Gordon Russell Aldrich III from New York is playing the Yummy Deck, featuring the Light and Darkness Ritual and Fiendsmith engines. On the other hand, Jerson Issac Rojas Espinoza is playing the Maliss strategy, one that has consistently seen competitive success over the last couple of years. Both Aldrich III and Espinoza have perfect 3-0 records thus far, but only one Duelist can remain undefeated. It’s time to Duel! 

Duel 1

Aldrich III won the die roll and chose to go first! He started by activating the effect of Griffoh, Setting Mind Shuffle to his backrow. He then activated it and used its effect to search for and discard Skull Archfiend of Chaos. He used Skull Archfiend’s effect and sent Light and Darkness Ritual to the Graveyard to search for Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos! From here, Aldrich III added Light and Darkness Ritual and Griffoh back to hand. He Normal Summoned Griffoh and used it to Link Summon Linkuriboh, then Special Summoned Cooky☆Yummy! In response, Espinoza activated the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos. Aldrich III decided to activate Ragged Records of Rites here, searching for Black Luster Soldier – Soldier of Light and Darkness, then used Linkuriboh and Cooky to Synchro Summon Cupsy☆Yummy Way. However, when he activated Cupsy’s effect, Espinoza Chained the effect of the Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring he had just drawn. 

Aldrich III used Cupsy☆Yummy Way to Link Summon Yummy☆Snatchy and place Yummyusment☆Mignon to his Field Spell Zone. He used Mignon’s effect to bring back Cooky, then activated Light and Darkness Ritual, banishing Griffoh from his Graveyard to Special Summon Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos and add Ragged Records of Rites back to hand. Reluctant to allow Espinoza to draw any more cards, Aldrich III ended his turn.

Espinoza drew Maliss <P> Chessy Cat for turn! He Normal Summoned it, and in response to the summon, Aldrich III activated the effect of Yummy☆Snatchy. However, Espinoza Chained Maliss in the Mirror, banishing Chessy Cat from the field and negating Snatchy’s effect! Espinoza then brought Chessy Cat back to the field. Aldrich III attempted to activate the effect of Mind Shuffle, but Espinoza Chained the effect of Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, destroying Mind Shuffle before Aldrich III could resolve its effect! From here, Espinoza activated Maliss in Underground and banished Maliss <P> Dormouse from his Deck. He brought back the Dormouse, then banished Maliss <P> White Rabbit as Aldrich III used the effect of his own Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit to destroy Dormouse. Espinoza Special Summoned Maliss <P> White Rabbit and Set Maliss <C> MTP-07 to his backrow, then used White Rabbit to Link Summon Linguriboh. Espinoza then used the effect of Chessy Cat, banishing another copy of Chessy Cat from hand to draw Maliss <P> March Hare and Dominus Spark! 

Next, Espinoza banished Maliss in the Mirror to Special Summon March Hare, then used Mirror’s effect to banish Dormouse from the Graveyard and search for another copy of March Hare. He used Linguriboh, March Hare, and Chessy Cat to Link Summon Maliss <Q> Hearts Crypter, then used Wizard @Ignister’s effect to Special Summon it from hand and March Hare from the Graveyard. He used Crypter and Wizard to Link Summon Accesscode Talker, banished Crypter to destroy Cooky, then brought Crypter back to the field. In the Battle Phase, Espinoza used Crypter to attack Snatchy, then attacked Aldrich III’s Life Points directly with Accesscode Talker to win the first Duel!

Duel 2

Espinoza opened the second Duel with Maliss <P> March Hare, Terraforming, Bystial Magnamhut, and two copies of Dominus Impulse. 

Aldrich III chose to go first once again! He Normal Summoned Lollipo☆Yummy, then used it to Link Summon Yummy☆Snatchy and place Yummyusment☆Mignon to the field. He activated the effect of Yummyusment☆Mignon, and Espinoza activated the effect of Bystial Magnamhut, but Aldrich III Chained the effect of Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion! Aldrich III resolved Mignon’s effect to bring back Lollipo, then used Lollipo and Snatchy to Synchro Summon Cupsy☆Yummy Way. He used Cupsy’s effect to search for Cupsy☆Yummy and Cooky☆Yummy, then discarded Mulcharmy Fuwalos. He Special Summoned Cupsy☆Yummy and searched for Yummy☆Surprise, Special Summoned Cooky, then used Cupsy to Link Summon Linkuriboh. Aldrich III followed up by using Linkuriboh and Cooky to Synchro Summon Lollipo☆Yummy Way, but when he activated its effect, Aldrich III Chained Dominus Impulse! Aldrich III Chained the effect of Lollipo☆Yummy Way, bringing back two of his Yummy monsters anyways, then used them to Link Summon Reprodocus. He used Reprodocus to turn his Cupsy☆Yummy Way into a Fiend-type monster, used it to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem. He used Requiem’s effect to bring out Lacrima the Crimson Tears and send Fiendsmith Engraver to the Graveyard, then used Lacrima and Reprodocus to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Sequence. From there, he used Sequence’s effect to bring out Aerial Eater and send Skull Archfiend of Chaos to the Graveyard. He used Skull Archfiend’s effect to send Light and Darkness Ritual to the Graveyard and add Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos to hand, then activated the effect of Light and Darkness Ritual in the Graveyard to add both it and Skull Archfiend of Chaos back to hand. 

Aldrich III activated Yummy☆Surprise, bringing back Cupsy☆Yummy Way, then activated Light and Darkness Ritual, banishing monsters from his Graveyard to Special Summon Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos and add Surprise back to hand. Finally, he used Aerial Eater and Sequence to Link Summon S:P Little Knight, Special Summoned Engraver and Skull Archfiend from the Graveyard, and used the two to Xyz Summon D/D/D Wave High King Caesar! He then Set two cards to his backrow and ended his turn. 

Espinoza drew Harpie’s Feather Duster for turn! He started by activating it, but with Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos on the field, Aldrich III’s Set cards could not be destroyed. Espinoza then activated the effect of Bystial Magnamhut, but Aldrich III Chained the effect of Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion once again! Espinoza activated Terraforming to search for Maliss in Underground, then activated Underground and banished Maliss <P> Dormouse from his Deck. He tried to Special Summon it back to the field, but Aldrich III Chained the effect of Caesar, negating it. Unable to push through Aldrich III’s board, Espinoza conceded. We’re moving on to game three!

Duel 3

Espinoza opened with Radiant Typhoon Chant, Wizard @Ignister, Maliss in Underground, Bystial Magnamhut, and Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. In the Draw Phase, Aldrich III activated the effect of Mulcharmy Purulia. Espinoza Chained the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, but Aldrich III Chained the effect of a second copy of Purulia! Espinoza then activated Radiant Typhoon Chant, searching for Eldam. In Main Phase 1, he activated Maliss in Underground, banishing Maliss <P> Dormouse from his Deck, then Special Summoned it back and banished Maliss <P> White Rabbit from his Deck. He brought back the White Rabbit and Set Maliss <C> TB-11 to his backrow, then Special Summoned Radiant Typhoon Eldam and searched for Radiant Typhoon Swen. Espinoza used Swen, Dormouse, and White Rabbit to Link Summon Maliss <Q> Red Ransom and search for Maliss in the Mirror, then activated TB-11, banishing his Ransom and bringing out Maliss <P> Chessy Cat. He brought back Red Ransom and banished Maliss <P> March Hare from Deck, added March Hare back to hand, then used Chessy Cat and Red Ransom to Link Summon Cyberse Wicckid. 

From here, Espinoza activated the effect of March Hare, banishing Chessy Cat from his Graveyard, then brought back Chessy Cat and used Wicckid’s effect to search for Backup @Ignister. Espinoza used March Hare to Link Summon Linguriboh, then Special Summoned Backup @Ignister and searched for another copy of March Hare and discarded Swen. Espinoza used Wicckid and Linguriboh to Link Summon Protectcode Talker, then decided to activate the effect of Maliss <P> Chessy Cat, banishing Maliss in the Mirror to draw 2 cards. However, when he activated the effect of Mirror, Aldrich III Chained the effect of Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion! Espinoza Link Summoned Firewall Dragon, brought back Protectcode Talker from the Graveyard, then used Firewall’s effect to add Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring back to hand. Finally, Espinoza used Firewall Dragon from the field and Chessy Cat from hand to Link Summon Zenna’s Deceiving Doll Maidens and send Spell Canceller to the Graveyard. He used Zenna and Protectcode to Link Summon Charmers Quartet in Bloom, and used its effect to bring back both Spell Canceller and Zenna! Espinoza used Backup to Link Summon Link Disciple, used Wizard’s effect to summon both it and March Hare, then Link Summoned Maliss <Q> Hearts Crypter before ending his turn. 

Aldrich III started by Normal Summoning Lollipo☆Yummy. He used it to Link Summon Yummy☆Snatchy and place Yummyusment☆Mignon to his Field Spell Zone, then Special Summoned another Lollipo☆Yummy from hand! He used his two monsters to Synchro Summon Cupsy☆Yummy Way, but when he activated its effect, Aldrich III responded with the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Aldrich III wasn’t able to find a way to deal with Spell Canceller and had three Spell Cards in hand, so he conceded.

With the victory, Espinoza improves to a 4-0 record here at YCS Montréal!
