We’re in the final round of the Advanced Format Main Event on Day 1 of YCS Montréal! Kevin Zuger and Wei Li each have perfect 7-0 records going into Round 8, so they’re guaranteed a spot for Day 2. However, they’ll have to keep up their winning ways if they want to make it to the Top 8 Cut, with a chance to be the YCS Montréal champion! Each of these Duelists is piloting the Kewl Tune Deck. Let’s find out which one will end Day 1 with a perfect 8-0 record! It’s time to Duel!

Duel 1

Zuger opened with Kewl Tune Cue, Kewl Tune Rotary, Bystial Magnamhut, Effect Veiler, and Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion. 

Li won the die roll and chose to go first! He started by Normal Summoning Kewl Tune Mix and activating its effect, but Zuger Chained the effect of Effect Veiler. Li then used Mix and Kewl Tune Clip to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Track Maker, allowing him to banish Albion the Branded Dragon from Zuger’s Extra Deck, as well as search for JJ “Kewl Tune”. Next, Li activated JJ, then used its effect to Tribute Track Maker and Special Summon Kewl Tune Reco; however, when he activated its effect, Zuger Chained the effect of Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion! Finally, during the End Phase, Zuger activated the effect of Bystial Magnamhut, but Li responded by Chaining the effect of his own Ghost Belle. 

Zuger drew another copy of Rotary for turn! He started by once again activating the effect of Magnamhut, banishing Clip from Li’s Graveyard. He then activated Rotary’s effect, Normal Summoning it, then used it and Cue in hand to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Track Maker! Li knew he would not be able to stop Zuger from establishing a board of Kewl Tune monsters and wiping out his Life Points, so he conceded. 

Duel 2

Zuger opened the second Duel with Effect Veiler, Fydraulis Harmonia, Mulcharmy Purulia, Kewl Tune Reco, and Kewl Tune Synchro. 

Li chose to go first once again! During the Standby Phase, Zuger activated the effect of Mulcharmy Purulia, but Li Chained Called by the Grave! Li started his turn by activating the effect of Kewl Tune Rotary, then Normal Summoned Kewl Tune Reco and activated its effect. Zuger Chained the effect of Fydraulis Harmonia, Special Summoning it, destroying Reco, and sending Wind Pegasus @Ignister to the Graveyard, as Li searched for Kewl Tune Clip. Li then Normal Summoned Rotary, and used Rotary on the field and Kewl Tune Cue in hand to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Track Maker. Zuger responded by activating the effect of Effect Veiler to negate Track Maker’s effects, but Li still resolved Rotary’s effect to look at Zuger’s hand and search for JJ “Kewl Tune”, as well as Cue’s effect to look at the top two cards of Zuger’s Deck, banishing Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion and returning Kewl Tune Clip to the top. 

Li followed up by activating JJ “Kewl Tune”, then used his additional Normal Summon to bring out Kewl Tune Mix and add Kewl Tune Reco from his Graveyard back to hand. Finally, he used Mix and Reco to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Remix, then ended his turn. 

Zuger drew Kewl Tune Clip for turn. He Normal Summoned Kewl Tune Reco and activated its effect, and Li Chained the effect of Kewl Tune Remix; Li added Reco back to hand and Special Summoned Kewl Tune Mix, then used the two to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune RS, as Zuger resolved Reco’s effect to search for Kewl Tune Rotary. Here, Li activated the effect of Kewl Tune Clip, Special Summoning it, then using Clip and Track Maker to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Loudness War! Li banished a copy of Kewl Tune RS from Zuger’s Extra Deck and returned Reco to Zuger’s hand. 

Zuger next activated the effect of Rotary, Normal Summoning it, then used Rotary and Clip to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Track Maker! Li used Loudness War’s effect to return Wind Pegasus to Zuger’s Extra Deck, as Zuger resolved the effects of his Kewl Tune monsters to banish Kewl Tune RS from Li’s Extra Deck, return Remix to Li’s Extra Deck, and search for Kewl Tune Mix. Zuger used Track Maker and Mix to Synchro Summon Zalen the Shackled Dragon, then used Track Maker and Mix’s effects to return RS to the Extra Deck and destroy Loudness War. With his board broken, Li knew that he could not stop Zuger from building a board, so he conceded.
