For our Round 3 Feature Match, we have two Duelists playing Decks that have consistently performed well in Genesys Format. Aviel Getter, from Vancouver, British Columbia, is piloting the Blitzclique Deck, one that remains strong despite several cards receiving points following the Deck’s performance at the North America WCQ. Meanwhile, William Arthur Kemp III, from Brooklyn, NJ, is playing the Branded Deck, one that is formidable in both Advanced and Genesys Format. Each of these Duelists have kicked off YCS Montréal’s Genesys Format Day 1 with 2-0 records, but only one will remain undefeated. It’s time to Duel!

Duel 1

Kemp won the die roll and chose to go first! He started by activating Fusion Deployment, revealing Granguignol the Dusk Dragon and Special Summoned Blazing Cartesia, the Virtuous from his Deck. Next, he activated its effect, using Tri-Brigade Mercourier from his hand and the Cartesia to Fusion Summon Granguignol and send Titaniklad the Ash Dragon from his Extra Deck to the Graveyard. He then Set a card to his backrow and proceeded to the End Phase. There, he used Titaniklad’s effect to Special Summon Guiding Quem, the Virtuous from his Deck and send Tri-Brigade Springans Kitt from his Deck to the Graveyard, used Kitt’s effect to Special Summon back Cartesia, and ended his turn. 

Getter opened with Lava Golem, Blitzclique Alternator, Blitzclique – Breakaway, and two copies of Forbidden Chalice, then drew Whisker Blitzclique for turn! He started in the Draw Phase, activating Chalice to negate the effect of Granguignol the Dusk Dragon. He then activated Blitzclique – Breakaway, placing Blitzclique Alternator to his backrow, and used its effect to return the other copy of Alternator in his hand to the Deck to search for Emi Blitzclique. He Special Summoned Emi and destroyed his own Alternator, then banished Alternator from his Graveyard to search for Hideout in the Sky, Coulomb. In Main Phase 1, Getter Tributed Kemp’s Quem and Cartesia to Special Summon Lava Golem to Kemp’s side of the field! Getter then activated the effect of Whisker Blitzclique, Special Summoning it and destroying Kemp’s face-down Forbidden Chalice, then added Blitzclique – Breakaway back to his hand. 

Here, Getter activated Coulomb! He Special Summoned a Token to Kemp’s side of the field and searched for Surge Blitzclique, then Special Summoned Surge and destroyed Kemp’s Lava Golem. This allowed him to activate Emi’s effect to search for Blitzclique Return Stroke. He proceeded to the Battle Phase and used Whisker to attack Granguignol, as well as Surge to attack the Token, then attacked Kemp’s Life Points directly with Emi. Finally, he Set three cards to his backrow and ended his turn. During the End Phase, Kemp activated the effect of Cartesia, but Getter Chained the effect of Whisker, returning Surge to hand to keep Cartesia in the Graveyard. 

Kemp started his turn once again by activating Fusion Deployment! This time, however, Getter Chained Blitzclique Return Stroke, returning Whisker to hand to negate Fusion Deployment. Without any other plays to make, Kemp then conceded the first Duel. 

Duel 2

Kemp chose to go first once again! He began by activating the effect of Fallen of the White Dragon, sending Albion the Branded Dragon from his Extra Deck to the Graveyard to Special Summon White Dragon, then Special Summoned Incredible Ecclesia, the Virtuous from his Deck. Next, he activated Ecclesia’s effect, Tributing it to Special Summon The Golden Swordsoul! He followed up by Normal Summoning Aluber the Jester of Despia and searching for Branded in High Spirits, then used The Golden Swordsoul and Ecclesia to Synchro Summon Stardust Dragon! He followed up by Special Summoning Blazing Cartesia, the Virtuous, then used Cartesia and White Dragon to Synchro Summon Ecclesia and the Dark Dragon! He activated its effect, banishing it to Special Summon Guiding Quem, the Virtuous, then sent Tri-Brigade Springans Kitt to the Graveyard and Special Summoned back Blazing Cartesia, the Virtuous. He then used Kitt’s effect to bring back Fallen of the White Dragon. Finally, he activated Cartesia’s effect, using it, White Dragon, and Albion the Shrouded Dragon to Fusion Summon The Dragon that Devours the Dogma! He shuffled The Golden Swordsoul back to the Deck and proceeded to the End Phase, where he Set Branded Retribution to his backrow and added Incredible Ecclesia, the Virtuous back to hand. He activated Branded in High Spirits, sending Ecclesia and Granguignol the Dusk Dragon to the Graveyard to search for Tri-Brigade Mercourier, added Cartesia back to hand, returned Ecclesia to the field, and ended his turn. 

Getter opened with Hideout in the Sky, Coulomb, Blitzclique – Steppleader, Grain Blitzclique, Astrazma Urania, and Thunder King, the Lightningstrike Kaiju, and drew another copy of Grain Blitzclique for turn! Getter began his turn by Tributing Kemp’s Stardust Dragon to Special Summon Thunder King, the Lightningstrike Kaiju to Kemp’s side of the field! Getter then activated Blitzclique – Steppleader, using its effect to bring out Grain and destroy Steppleader. However, when Getter activated Grain’s effect, Kemp Chained the effect of Mercourier, negating it! Next, Getter Special Summoned Astrazma Urania by returning Grain back to hand, then activated its effect, as Kemp Chained the effect of Ecclesia, banishing it to Special Summon Fallen of Albaz from his Deck; however, he wasn’t able to use the effect of Albaz! Getter next activated the effect of Grain, destroying Kemp’s Retribution to Special Summon Grain, then activated Hideout in the Sky, Coulomb! He Special Summoned a Token to Kemp’s field and searched for Emi Blitzclique, then Special Summoned Emi and destroyed Kemp’s Kaiju. This allowed Getter to add Steppleader back to hand and search for Blitzclique – Breakaway, as Kemp used Granguignol’s effect to Special Summon Despian Quaeritis! 

Getter activated Breakaway, placing Blitzclique Alternator to his backrow, then used Alternator’s effect to return Grain to the Deck and search for Whisker Blitzclique. He Special Summoned Whisker and destroyed Quaeritis, as Kemp activated Quaeritis’ effect to reduce the ATK of all of Getter’s monsters. Getter added Breakaway back to hand, and Kemp Special Summoned back Aluber from the Graveyard and negated the effect of Getter’s Emi. Finally, he Set a card to his backrow, activated Steppleader, and ended his turn. During the End Phase, Kemp added Branded in High Spirits back to hand. Since Ecclesia could not return to the field, it was sent to the Graveyard instead! 

In Kemp’s Draw Phase, Getter activated the effect of Alternator, searching for Crackle Blitzclique! Kemp activated the effect of Ecclesia and the Dark Dragon in the Graveyard, attempting to get rid of Getter’s Whisker, but Getter Chained Breakaway, returning Whisker to hand and destroying Kemp’s Quem. Getter then searched for Crackle Blitzclique, as Kemp Special Summoned Blazing Cartesia, the Virtuous. Kemp used Cartesia and Fallen of Albaz to Synchro Summon Draco Berserker of the Tenyi, then Normal Summoned Fallen of Albaz and activated its effect. Getter Chained the effect of Crackle, Kemp Chained the effect of Draco Berserker, and Getter used the effect of Whisker as Chain Link 4! Getter Special Summoned Whisker and Crackle and destroyed both Draco Berserker and Fallen of Albaz, then in a new Chain, added Breakaway back to hand and sent Blitzclique Alternator to the Graveyard. Kemp then switched Aluber and his Token to Attack Position, and attacked Crackle, destroying it in Battle. Kemp then ended his turn. 

Getter started his turn by activating Alternator’s effect to search for Emi Blitzclique, then Special Summoned it and destroyed Kemp’s Token. This allowed him to add Thunder King, the Lightningstrike Kaiju to hand as well as search for Hideout in the Sky, Coulomb. He Tributed Kemp’s The Dragon that Devours the Dogma to Special Summon Thunder King to Kemp’s side of the field, then activated Breakaway, returning Emi to hand to destroy the Thunder King. Getter Normal Summoned Emi and proceeded to the Battle Phase. With only an Aluber on his side of the field, Kemp could not stop the upcoming attack from all of Getter’s Blitzclique monsters, so he conceded.

Getter wins the round and improves to 3-0 here at YCS Montréal!
