Dominic Couch from Houston, Texas is a 3-time TEAM YCS winner. Now, he’s competing in the Advanced Format Main Event at YCS Montréal, looking for his first solo YCS trophy. He’s using a Kewl Tune Deck, which is perceived by many players to contain one of the most powerful strategies to use this weekend. Alexandre Dalpe is a local Duelist from Montréal. He made it to the top 4 of YCS Toronto in 2016, and this weekend he’s looking to take his greatest finish a step further with a championship trophy. He’s using a Power Patron Deck. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Dalpe started off the first Duel by Normal Summoning Medius the Pure and activating its effect; but Couch Chained the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring from his hand to negate it.

Next, Dalpe activated Jupredo the Shademachine Power Patron in a Pendulum Zone, and Couch Chained the effect of PSY-Framegear Delta from his hand. He Special Summoned Delta along with a PSY-Frame Driver from his Deck to negate the activation of Jupredo and destroy it. Dalpe passed his turn with no further play, and both Delta and Driver were banished from the field in the End Phase.

Couch drew Kewl Tune Synchro and added it to his hand of Synchro Overtake, Kewl Tune Reco, and Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion. He activated it in the Draw Phase and added Kewl Tune Rotary from his Deck to his hand. He activated Rotary’s effect by revealing Ghost Belle from his hand and then Summoned Rotary. Next, he Tuned Rotary with the Ghost Belle in his hand and Synchro Summoned Kewl Tune Track Maker. Dalpe saw the writing on the wall – he conceded, realizing he would be defeated.

Duel Two

Dalpe started off Duel 2 by activating Pendulum Treasure in his Main Phase. Couch Chained the effect of PSY-Framegear Delta from his hand, and Dalpe Chained Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate it and leave Delta in his hand. Treasure resolved to place Nervedo the Shadebeast Power Patron in the Extra Deck. He activated Nervedo’s effect to try to Special Summon a “Power Patron” or “Artmage” monster, but Couch Chained the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate it. Dalphe Set 2 cards to his back row and then ended his turn.

Couch drew Kewl Tune Reco and added it to his hand of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, PSY-Framegear Delta, Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion, and Droll & Lock Bird.

He Normal Summoned Reco and activated its effect to add Kewl Tune Rotary from his Deck to his hand. He Tuned Reco with the Delta in his hand to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune RS and then used Reco’s effect to target Couch’s face-down Called by the Grave to destroy it. Dalphe Chained it to banish Reco from the Graveyard. Next, Couch activated Rotary’s effect in his hand and Summoned it by revealing Ghost Belle from his hand. He Tuned Rotary with the Ghost Belle in his hand to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Track Maker. He used Rotary’s effect to look at the Dominus Impulse in Dalpe’s hand and add Kewl Tune Synchro from his Deck to his hand. He used Track Maker’s effect to add JJ “Kewl Tune” from his Deck to his hand. He Tuned Track Maker with the Ash Blossom in his hand to Synchro Summon Zalen the Shackled Dragon. He returned Dalpe’s face-down card to Dalpe’s hand with Track Maker’s effect. Next, Couch activated JJ “Kewl Tune”. He activated Kewl Tune Synchro next. Dalphe tried to negate it by activating Dominus Impulse from his hand, but Couch Chained Kewl Tune RS’s effect and negated it by banishing Delta from his Graveyard. Couch added Kewl Tune Cue from his Deck to his hand and then Normal Summoned it with the extra Normal Summon he got from JJ “Kewl Tune”. He used Cue’s effect to Special Summon Kewl Tune Mix. He Tuned Mix with Cue to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Remix and used Cue’s effect to banish one of the top 2 cards of Dalpe’s Deck and return the other card to the top. Next, he Tuned Kewl Tune Remix and Kewl Tune RS to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune B2B. Two direct attacks from B2B and a direct attack from Zalen the Shackled Dragon wiped out all of Dalpe’s Life Points.
