For our Round 10 Advanced Format Feature Match, we have Dave Vecht facing off against Roberto Aldana Cobos! Both of these Duelists have 7-2 records, and they’re each piloting the Kewl Tune strategy, one that has been popular ever since the release of Kewl Tune Rotary in Blazing Dominion. With only a few Swiss Rounds left, each of these Duelists is hoping to make it to the Top 8 Cut here at YCS Montréal.

Duel 1

Cobos opened with Duelist Genesis, Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion, Kewl Tune Synchro, and Kewl Tune Cue. 

Vecht won the die roll and chose to go first!  He activated the effect of Kewl Tune Rotary, Normal Summoning it, then used it and Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Track Maker! Cobos used the effect of his own Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit to destroy Track Maker, as Vecht looked at Cobos’ hand and searched for both Kewl Tune Cue and JJ “Kewl Tune”. Next, Vecht Normal Summoned Cue and activated its effect, but Cobos Chained the effect of Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion! Vecht followed up by activating JJ, then used its effect to Tribute Cue and Special Summon Kewl Tune Reco. He added Kewl Tune Mix to hand, then used his additional Normal Summon to bring out Mix and add Cue from his Graveyard back to hand. Finally, he used Mix and Cue to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Remix, then looked at the top two cards of Cobos’ Deck, banishing Kewl Tune Mix and returning Kewl Tune Reco to the top of Deck. Vecht Set a card to his backrow and ended his turn. 

Cobos drew Kewl Tune Reco for turn! He Normal Summoned Reco and activated its effect. Vecht Chiained the effect of Kewl Tune Remix, Cobos activated Kewl Tune Synchro, but Vecht used the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring as Chain Link 4! Vecht resolved Remix’s effect, Special Summoning Mix and adding Rotary back to hand, then using Reco and Track Maker to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Track Maker, as Cobos resolved Reco’s effect to search for his own copy of Rotary. In a new Chain, Vecht activated the effects of his Kewl Tune monsters, looking at Cobos’ hand, then searching for Kewl Tune Synchro, Kewl Tune Reco, and Kewl Tune Clip. On resolution, Vecht activated his Set Kewl Tune Synchro, searching for Kewl Tune Reco, then used Reco and Mix to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune RS! He activated the effect of Mix to destroy Cobos’ Reco. 

Cobos followed up by activating the effect of Rotary, revealing Cue! He Normal Summoned Cue and activated its effect, as Vecht Chained the effect of Fydraulis Harmonia. Vecht Special Summoned Harmonia, destroyed Cue, and sent Golden Cloud Beast – Malong to the Graveyard, as Cobos Special Summoned Kewl Tune Mix from Deck. In the following Chain, Cobos used Mix’s effect to search for Reco, as Vecht used Malong’s effect to return Mix to Cobos’ hand. Cobos then activated Duelist Genesis, searching for Synchro Overtake. However, when he activated it, it was met by the effect of RS! Without any other ways to push through Vecht’s field of Kewl Tune monsters, Cobos conceded.

Duel 2

Cobos won the die roll and chose to go first, opening with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, The Fallen & The Virtuous, Fydraulis Harmonia, Effect Veiler, and Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit. During the Standby Phase, Vecht activated the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos! Cobos Set a card to his backrow and ended his turn. 

Vecht began his turn by activating the effect of Kewl Tune Rotary, Normal Summoning it. Cobos immediately activated The Fallen & The Virtuous, destroying the Rotary and sending Albion the Branded Dragon to the Graveyard. Vecht Set two cards and ended his turn, as Cobos Set another copy of The Fallen & The Virtuous to his backrow. 

Cobos drew Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring for turn! He ended his turn without making any plays.

Vecht drew a card, but ended his turn without making any plays. 

Cobos drew Droll & Lock Bird, but didn’t make any plays once again!

Vecht began his turn by activating JJ “Kewl Tune”! He Normal Summoned Effect Veiler, then activated the effect of JJ, Tributing Veiler, but Cobos Chained the effect of Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, destroying JJ before Vecht could resolve its effect. Vecht then ended his turn.

Cobos drew Kewl Tune Synchro for turn! He activated it in the Draw Phase, searching for Kewl Tune Rotary. He used Rotary’s effect, Normal Summoning it, then used it and Ash Blossom to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Track Maker! Vecht used Infinite Impermanence to negate the effect of Track Maker, but Cobos resolved Rotary’s effect, looking at Vecht’s hand of Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion and Rotary, then searching for Kewl Tune Synchro. From here, Cobos used Track Maker and another copy of Ash Blossom to Synchro Summon Zalen the Shackled Dragon! He used Track Maker’s effect to return Vecht’s Set card to hand, then activated Kewl Tune Synchro. However, he activated it in the same column that Vecht activated Infinite Impermanence in, so its effect was negated! Cobos attacked Vecht’s Life Points directly with Zalen the Shackled Dragon, then ended his turn. 

Vecht drew a card, but once again ended his turn without making any plays.

Cobos drew Solemn Judgment for turn! He attacked Vecht’s Life Points directly with Zalen, Set a card to his backrow, and ended his turn. 

Vecht started his turn by attempting to Normal Summon Kewl Tune Mix, but Cobos negated it with Solemn Judgment! Vecht then activated the effect of Rotary, Normal Summoning it, but Cobos responded by activating The Fallen & The Virtuous, destroying Rotary. Without any other plays, Vecht conceded. We’re moving on to game three!

Duel 3

Cobos opened with Called by the Grave, Duelist Genesis,Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion, and two copies of Effect Veiler.

Vecht chose to go first in the final Duel! He started by Normal Summoning Kewl Tune Mix, but was met by Cobos’ Effect Veiler. Vecht then activated Pot of Prosperity, revealing Infinite Impermanence,Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion, Effect Veiler, Kewl Tune Mix, and two copies of Fydraulis Harmonia, and chose to add Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion to hand. Next, Vecht used Mix and Cue to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Remix! He looked at the top two cards of Cobos’ Deck, banishing Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion and returning Mulcharmy Fuwalos to the top. Vecht finally Set a card to his backrow and ended his turn.

Cobos drew Mulcharmy Fuwalos for turn! In the Standby Phase, Vecht activated the effect of Kewl Tune Remix, but Cobos Chained the effect of Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion. Cobos then activated Duelist Genesis, searching for Synchro Overtake. However, when he activated Overtake, Vecht Chained Dominus Purge! Cobos then ended his turn.

Vecht started his turn in the Draw Phase by activating Kewl Tune Synchro and searching for Kewl Tune Rotary. Afterwards, Cobos activated the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos! Vecht Normal Summoned Rotary, then used it and Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Track Maker! Cobos drew Mulcharmy Purulia, and used the effect of Effect Veiler to negate Track Maker’s effect, as Vecht used the effect of Rotary to look at Cobos’ hand and search for Kewl Tune Synchro. Vecht then Set a card to his backrow and ended his turn.

Cobos drew Kewl Tune Mix for turn! He Normal Summoned it and searched for Kewl Tune Reco. On resolution, Vecht activated Kewl Tune Synchro, searching for Kewl Tune Reco, then using Track Maker and Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to Synchro Summon Zalen the Shackled Dragon! Vecht used Track Maker’s effect to return Mix to Cobos’ hand. Cobos activated Called by the Grave, banishing Rotary from Vecht’s Graveyard, then ended his turn.

During Vecht’s Standby Phase, Cobos activated the effect of Mulcharmy Purulia! Vecht Normal Summoned Kewl Tune Reco, allowing Cobos to draw a copy of Rotary as Vecht searched for Kewl Tune Rotary. Vecht used Rotary and Reco to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Track Maker, then searched for JJ “Kewl Tune”! He activated JJ, Tributed Track Maker, then Special Summoned Kewl Tune Mix from Deck and searched for Kewl Tune Cue. Vecht Normal Summoned Kewl Tune Cue and Special Summoned Reco from the Graveyard. Cobos activated the effect of Fydraulis Harmonia in response, but Vecht used Zalen’s effect as Chain Link 3 to negate and destroy Harmonia! Finally, Vecht used Cue and Zalen to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune B2B, then used Reco and Mix to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune RS. Vecht proceeded to the Battle Phase, and attacked Cobos’ Life Points directly with both of his Kewl Tune monsters, reducing them to zero.
