We’re almost to the Top 8 of the Genesys Main Event! We’ve brought back Isaac Kritz and his Mimighoul Deck, after seeing him win his Feature Match on Friday. His opponent is Mackey Chung, from Hamilton, ON, playing Blitzclique. These Duelists are on track for a Top 8 finish, but they need to win here!

Duel 1

Chung won the dice roll and played first, with a hand of Pot of Extravagance; Astrazma Urania; Whisker Blitzclique; D.D. Crow; and Hideout in the Sky, Coulomb.

Chung began with Extravagance, banishing six cards to draw Foolish Burial Goods and Crackle Blitzclique. He played Coulomb, but lost it to Kritz’s Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit. Chung played Foolish Burial Goods to send Blitzclique Alternator to the Graveyard, and banished it to add Blitzclique – Breakaway to his hand. He played that to place an Alternator on the field, and used its effect to shuffle back Crackle, adding Grain Blitzclique to his hand. He Special Summoned Grain by destroying his Alternator, which let him add Breakaway and Coulomb back to his hand from the Graveyard. He played Coulomb and Set Breakaway. He Special Summoned Whisker and destroyed Coulomb, and Grain’s effect put Breakaway in his hand. He Set it to finish.

In the Draw Phase, Chung flipped Breakaway to place Blitzclique Return Stroke on the field. Kritz played Mimighoul Dungeon, and Chung flipped Breakaway to return Whisker to his hand and destroy the Dungeon. Chung returned Breakaway and Coulomb from his Graveyard to his hand, and Grain’s effect added Blitzclique – Steppleader to his hand. Kritz had no followup, and decided to move on to the next Duel!

Duel 2

Chung started this time with Foolish Burial Goods, Steppleader, Emi Blitzclique, Surge Blitzclique , and Skull Meister.

Kritz began the turn with Dimension Shifter, then played Mimighoul Maker. Chung received a face-down Mimighoul Archfiend, while Mimighoul Slime went to Kritz’s hand, and he Special Summoned Mimighoul Dragon. Dragon let him add Mimighoul Dungeon to his hand. He activated the Dungeon, and used it to add Mimighoul Armor to his hand. He Special Summoned Slime on Chung’s field face-down, then Special Summoned Armor to his own side. He stacked Armor and Dragon for Number 31: Embodiment of Punishment, and used its effect to flip up Chung’s monsters. Slime’s effect brought Mimighoul Flower to Kritz’s field, and Archfiend let Kritz draw and took Skull Meister from Chung’s hand. Both Slime and Archfiend went back to Kritz’s field. Kritz stacked Archfiend and Flower for Giant Mimighoul, which added another Flower to Kritz’s hand. He Normal Summoned it, stacking it with Slime for Mimighoul Throne. He used Throne’s effect to Special Summon Mimighoul Master. Kritz played Summoning Curse! He Special Summoned Mimighoul Fairy to Chung’s field, and Chung was forced to banish his Foolish Burial Goods due to Summoning Curse. Kritz Set one card in his back row, and paid to keep Summoning Curse on the field.

Chung drew Gravekeeper’s Watcher. In the Standby Phase, Kritz used Embodiment of Punishment to flip up Mimighoul Fairy, locking out Chung’s entire strategy! Chung conceded!

Duel 3

Chung’s final opening hand was Surge Blitzclique; Emi Blitzclique; Grain Blitzclique; Blitzclique – Breakaway; and Hideout in the Sky, Coulomb.

Chung Normal Summoned Surge and activated Coulomb, but lost it to Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit. Surge’s effect added Whisker to his hand. He played Breakaway to get Alternator on the field. He returned Emi to the Deck with Alternator, adding Crackle to his hand. He Special Summoned Grain by destroying Alternator, then Special Summoned Whisker and destroyed Surge. He returned Breakaway and Coulomb from the Graveyard to his hand, Grain added another Breakaway to his hand, and he banished Alternator from the Graveyard to add Steppleader to his hand. He Set both Breakaways, activated Steppleader, and passed.

In the Draw Phase, Chung flipped Breakaway to place Return Stroke on the field. Kritz Normal Summoned Dragon and activated its effect, and Chung used Crackle’s effect, Special Summoning it and destroying Dragon. Dragon’s effect still added Mimighoul Maker to Kritz’s hand. In a new Chain, Chung returned Breakaway from his Graveyard to his hand, and Steppleader and Grain put Surge and another Breakaway in his hand, respectively. Kritz Special Summoned Mimighoul Fairy to Chung’s side, then Special Summoned Flower to his own. He Special Summoned Treasure Panther, then stacked his monsters for  Kikinagashi Fucho in Attack Position. He sent it to attack Mimighoul Fairy, and Chung flipped Breakaway, returning Grain to his hand to destroy the Fairy. Crackle then sent a Steppleader to the Graveyard. A replay occurred, and Fucho attacked Crackle. In Main Phase 2, he used Fucho to Xyz Summon Downerd Magician, then that for Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS – Sky Thunder. He used Zeus’s effect, and Chung negated it with Whisker, returning Crackle. Kritz played Mimighoul Maker, and Chung negated that with Return Stroke. Kritz was out of gas and conceded the Duel!
