Michael Kerr from Glendale, California and Luke Vincent from Halifax, Nova Scotia are both currently 2-1 in the Genesys Main Event. Now, they’re facing off in this Round 4 Feature Match! Kerr made it into the Top 16 of the Genesys Main Event at YCS Columbus with his GMX Jurrac Dinosaur Deck, and now he’s back with the same strategy this weekend! Vincent is using a Shaddoll Deck, bolstered by new Shaddoll cards that were recently released in Battles of Legend: Glorious Gallery. He’s also using a small engine involving Light and Darkness Ritual from Chaos Origins. Only one of them can advance with a 3-1 record. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Kerr opened up the first Duel with Book of Eclipse, Souleating Oviraptor, Jurrac Aeolo, Kaitoptera, and Jurrac Megalo.

He Normal Summoned Kaitoptera and activated its effect to add Polymerization from his Deck to his hand. Next, he activated Polymerization and fused Kaitoptera with the Aeolo in his hand to Fusion Summon Horned Saurus. He activated its effect to place Jurrac Volcano from his Deck face-up in his Field Spell Zone. Next, he used his Horned Saurus’s effect to gain a Normal Summon, and used it to Normal Summon Souleating Oviraptor. He activated its effect to add Miscellaneousaurus from his Deck to his hand. He activated its effect by sending it to the Graveyard and then Special Summoned Jurrac Megalo from his hand in Defense Position. He activated his Oviraptor’s effect next. He destroyed Megalo and Special Summoned Kaitoptera from his Graveyard. He then used Megalo’s effect to send Jurrac Astero from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard. Next, he combined Kaitoptera with Oviraptor to Xyz Summon Evolzar Dolkka in Attack Position. Next, he activated Jurrac Volcano’s effect. He destroyed Horned Saurus and Special Summoned Jurrac Stego from his Deck. He then banished Miscellaneousaurus from his Graveyard to Special Summon Returned Dino Daneen from his Deck in Defense Position. He activated its effect to add GMX Partner Selandea from his Deck to his hand. He activated its effect in his hand to Special Summon it, and then activated its on-field effect to Special Summon Miscellaneousaurus from banishment. He activated Jurrac Stego’s effect next. He destroyed Miscellaneousaurus to send Jurrac Megalo from his Deck to his Graveyard and Special Summon Jurrac Aeolo from his Deck. He Tuned Aeolo with Partner Selandea to Synchro Summon Horned Beetle Carnovorus. He then Tuned Carnovorus with Stego to Synchro Summon Jurrac Astero, and used Astero’s effect to Set Jurrac Meteor from his Deck to his field. Next, Kerr used Daneen’s effect to fuse Daneen with Astero and Summon Evolved Daneen. He used the effect of Returned Dino Daneen to increase the ATK of his Evolved Daneen by 400, and used Evolved Daneen’s effect to add GMX 55th Experiment Report from his Deck to his hand. He Set Book of Eclipse and Experiment Report before ending his turn.

Vincent activated Book of Eclipse to put Evolved Daneen and Dolkka face-down, then activated Void Unleashing by revealing Shaddoll Hedgehog. He added Shaddoll Schism and Lev Shaddoll Fusion from his Deck to his hand and discarded Skull Archfiend of Chaos. He activated the effect of Skull Archfiend of Chaos by sending Light and Darkness Ritual from his Deck to his Graveyard and added Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos from his Deck to his hand. He activated the effect of the Light and Darkness Ritual in his Graveyard to return it to his hand along with the Skull Archfiend, then activated Lev Shaddoll Fusion. He sent El Shaddoll Apkallone from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard, then activated its effect. He added El Shaddoll Fusion from his Deck to his hand and discarded Shaddoll Hedgehog. He activated the Hedgehog’s effect to add Shaddoll Squamata from his Deck to his hand. He activated Light and Darkness Ritual and sent Squamata and Skull Archfiend from his hand to his Graveyard to Special Summon Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos. He activated the effects of Squamata and Magician of Dark Chaos. He used Magician of Dark Chaos’s effect to return Book of Eclipse from his Graveyard to his hand and used Squamata’s effect to send Tohushaddoll Grysta from his Deck to his Graveyard. He activated Grysta’s effect, and Kerr Chained Experiment Report. He fused GMX Chairman Kimridge from his Deck with the Evolved Daneen on his field to Summon GMX – VELOX. Grysta’s effect resolved and Vincent banished Hedgehog, Grysta, and Apkallone from his Graveyard to Fusion Summon El Shaddoll Meshachrer. Kerr gained 200 Life Points with VELOX’s effect. Kerr activated VELOX’s effect and targeted Magician of Black Chaos. He excavated 6 cards from the top of his Deck before revealing an Ultimate Conductor Tyranno. He lost 2400 Life points and added the Conductor Tyranno to his hand, then destroyed Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos. Vincent activated Meshachrer’s effect by paying 800 Life Points and added Naelshaddoll Ariel from his Deck to his hand. He activated the effect of Lev Shaddoll Fusion by Tributing Meshachrer and Kerr Chained Jurrac Impact to destroy all cards on the field! After they were all destroyed, Vincent activated Meshachrer’s effect to Special Summon Squamata from his Graveyard. He then activated El Shaddoll Fusion to fuse Ariel in his hand with Blazing Cartesia, the Virtuous in his hand. He Special Summoned El Shaddoll Construct and then activated the effects of Ariel and Construct. He targeted 2 Asteros and Miscellaneousaurus in Kerr’s Graveyard to try to banish them with Ariel, and Kerr Chained the effects of both Asteros to Summon two copies of Jurrac Meteor. Miscellaneousaurus was banished, and Vincent sent Shaddoll Beast from his Deck to his Graveyard with Construct’s effect. The first Meteor destroyed all cards on the field and Summoned Megalo from his Deck, and then the second Meteor’s effect resolved to destroy all cards on the field again and Special Summon Horned Brute from the Graveyard. Vincent drew a card with Beast’s effect and Kerr sent Jurrac Astero from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard with the effect of the destroyed Megalo. Vincent continued his turn by activating the effect of the Skull Archfiend of Chaos in his Graveyard. He returned Light and Darkness Ritual, Grysta, and Apkallone to his Deck to Special Summon the Skull Archfiend in Attack Position. He Set a card to his back row and then ended his turn. In the End Phase, Kerr used the effect of the Astero in his Graveyard by banishing it from his Graveyard along with a Meteor. He Special Summoned a Meteor from his Extra Deck and used its effect to destroy all cards on the field and then Special Summon Jurrac Aeolo.

Kerr drew a card and then used the effect of the Experiment Report in his Graveyard. He banished it to excavate cards from his Deck until he revealed GMX Partner Selandea and added the Selandea to his hand. He then Special Summoned Evolved Daneen from his Graveyard, since he had excavated cards. Vincent immediately conceded, realizing that he would be defeated that turn.

Duel Two

Vincent started off Duel 2 by activating Lev Shaddoll Fusion.

He sent Infernoid Evil from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard and then used Evil’s effect to add Void Unleashing from his Deck to his hand. He activated it by revealing Shaddoll Squamata from his hand. He added Shaddoll Schism and El Shaddoll Fusion from his Deck to his hand and discarded El Shaddoll Fusion. He Normal Summoned Mathematician next, and activated its effect to send Grysta from his Deck to his Graveyard. He activated Grysta’s effect and banished the Grysta and Squamata from the Graveyard, along with the Mathematician on his field. He Fusion Summoned Meshachrer and paid 800 Life points to activate its effect and add Void Apocalypse from his Deck to his hand. He activated it and used its effect by discarding Squamata. He sent Skull Archfiend of Chaos from his Deck to his Graveyard and then used the Skull Archfiend’s effect. He sent Light and Darkness Ritual from his Deck to his Graveyard to add Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos from his Deck to his hand. he activated Light and Darkness Ritual next. He sent Armageddon Knight and Skull Archfiend from his hand to his Graveyard to Special Summon the Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos and used its effect to return El Shaddoll Fusion from his Graveyard to his hand. Next, he activated the effect of the Lev Shaddoll Fusion on his field by sending Meshachrer to his Graveyard. He Special Summoned El Shaddoll Construct and used the effects of Meshachrer and Construct. He Special Summoned Squamata from the Graveyard with Meshachrer’s effect and sent Reeshaddoll Wendi from his Deck to his Graveyard with Construct’s effect. He used Wendi’s effect to Special Summon Shaddoll Dragon from his Deck face-down. He Set 3 cards to his back row and then ended his turn.

Kerr drew Jurrac Volcano and added it to his hand of GMX Chairman Kimridge, Forbidden Chalice, Souleating Ovirpator, Ultimate Conductor Tyranno, and Jurrac Megalo. He Normal Summoned Oviraptor and activated its effect. Vincent Chained Shaddoll Schism and activated its effect by banishing Squamata from his field and Meshachrer from his Graveyard. He Special Summon Apkallone and sent Oviraptor to the Graveyard. Kerr added Miscellaneousaurus from his Deck to his hand with Oviraptor’s effect. Kerr then activated the effect of Miscellaneousaurus in his hand, and Vincent Chained El Shaddoll Fusion. He fused Apkallone with Construct to Fusion Summon another El Shaddoll Construct. He used the effects of the Construct and Apkallone in the Graveyard, as well as the Construct on his field. He added Squamata to his hand and discarded it, returned El Shaddoll Fusion from his Graveyard to his hand, and sent Ariel to the Graveyard with Construct’s effect. He banished Kerr’s Graveyard with Ariel and sent Grysta to the Graveyard with Squamata’s effect. He used Grysta’s effect to Fusion Summon Meshachrer by banishing Grysta, Construct, and Armageddon Knight from his Graveyard. Kerr activated the effect of Chairman Kimridge to return it to his Deck and add GMX Applied Experiment #55 from his Deck to his hand. He then activated it and excavated 4 cards before excavating both Chairman Kimridge and Jurrac Megalo and fusing them together into GMX – ALLOS. He activated ALLOS’s effect to Special Summon Miscellaneousaurus from banishment and then activated Jurrac Volcano. He activated the Volcano’s effect, but lost out when Vincent Chained Cosmic Cyclone and paid 1000 Life Points to banish the Volcano. Kerr Special Summoned Megalo from his hand next, and then Tuned Megalo with Miscellaneousaurus to Synchro Summon Jurrac Velphito. He banished Miscellaneousaurus from his Graveyard to Special Summon Returned Dino Daneen and used Daneen’s effect to add GMX Partner Selandea from his Deck to his hand. He Special Summoned it and then activated its effect to Special Summon Oviraptor from banishment. He then activated Daneen’s effect to fuse together all 5 monsters on his field! He Fusion Summoned GMX – COMPREX and then banished 2 Dinosaurs from his Graveyard to Special Summon Ultimate Conductor Tyranno. He entered his Battle Phase and then attacked Construct with Tyranno. Construct’s effect activated, followed by Tyranno’s effect, and Kerr Chained Forbidden Chalice to negate Construct’s effect so that the Tyranno wouldn’t be destroyed. Tyranno destroyed the Construct and inflicted 1000 points of damage to Vincent’s Life Points. He attacked the face-down Dragon next, sending it to the Graveyard with Ultimate Conductor Tyranno’s effect and inflicting another 1000 points of damage to Vincent’s Life Points. Next, Tyranno attacked destroyed the Attack Position Meshachrer, inflicting another 700 points of damage. Meshachrer’s effect activated to Special Summon Apkallone from the Graveyard, and Vincent used Apkallone’s effect to negate the effect of Ultimate Conductor Tyranno. COMPREX attacked Apkallone next, but Apkallone couldn’t be destroyed in battle!

Vincent drew a card. Kerr looked at the clock and saw under 8 minutes remaining in the round. Kerr conceded, realizing that he was unlikely to win the Duel, and determined to avoid the double game loss that would result from not finishing the Match before time expires.

Duel Three

Kerr opened up Duel 3 with Cosmic Cyclone, GMX Partner Selandea, GMX Applied Experiment #55, Fossil Dig, and Polymerization. He activated Fossil Dig and added Souleating Oviraptor from his Deck to his hand. He Normal Summoned it and used its effect to add Miscellaneousaurus from his Deck to his hand. He activated its effect, then banished it from his Graveyard to Special Summon Megalo from his Deck. He Special Summoned Selandea from his hand, then used its effect to Special Summon Miscellaneousaurus. He Synchro Summoned Carnovorus next and then Synchro Summoned Jurrac Astero. He used its effect to Set Jurrac Volcano from his Deck and flipped it up. Next, he activated Applied Experiment and excavated 5 cards from the top of his Deck before revealing both Oviraptor and Selandea. He fused them together to Fusion Summon ALLOS and used its effect to Special Summon Miscellaneousaurus. He Xyz Summoned Dolkka and then used Volcano’s effect to destroy a monster and Special Summon Stego. He used Stego’s effect to destroy the Stego and send Ultimate Conductor Tyranno from his Deck to his Graveyard and Special Summon Jurrac Titano and Jurrac Megalo from his Deck. He Tuned them together to Synchro Summon another Astero and used its effect to Set Jurrac Impact face-down. He Set 2 cards to his back row before passing.

Vincent activated Shaddoll Fusion! He sent Shaddoll Dragon, Skull Archfiend, and Grysta to the Graveyard to Fusion Summon Meshachrer and then activated the effects of Skull Archfiend and Grysta as Chain Links 1 and 2 respectively. He sent Light and Darkness Ritual to the Graveyard to activate Skull Archfiend’s effect. Kerr Chained Dolkka’s effect to try to negate Grysta’s effect; but Vincent Chained Forbidden Chalice to negate Dolkka’s effects. Vincent Special Summoned Apkallone with Grysta’s effect and then activated Nightmare Hands to send Fleeting Phantom Mask Master from his Deck to his Graveyard. He activated its effect in the Graveyard to Special Summon it by banishing Chalice from his Graveyard. He then used its on-field effect to send Shaddoll Hedgehog from his Deck to his Graveyard. He used the Hedgehog’s effect to add Wendi from his Deck to his hand. He then used the effect of the Ritual of Light and Darkness in his Graveyard to return it to his hand along with the Skull Archfiend. He activated the Ritual and sent Fleeting Phantom to the Graveyard to Summon Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos. He used its effect to return Light and Darkness Ritual from his Graveyard to his hand. He targeted Astera with the effect of Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos to banish it, and Kerr Chained Impact to destroy all cards on the field, leaving only the Black Chaos and Meshachrer, which were unaffected by it! Next, Apkallone’s effect activated and Vincent added Ariel from his Deck to his hand and discarded it. He used Ariel’s effect to target 2 Astero’s and Miscellaneousaurus in Kerr’s Graveyard, and Kerr Chained the effects of both Asteros to Summon 2 copies of Jurrac Meteor; but with less than a minute on the clock, Kerr conceded the Duel, realizing that he was unlikely to win if the Duel were to continue.
