Justin Gouge from Toronto finished the Swiss Rounds of the Genesys Main Event at YCS Montréal with a 9-2 record using his Magistus Fairy Tail Invoked Deck. By doing so, he secured a 1^st place finish and was awarded the oversized Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning for his accomplishment. Now, he’s facing off against the Duelist who came in 8^th place at the end of Swiss – Aviel Getter from Vancouver, who finished the Swiss Rounds with an 8-3 record. Getter is using a Blitzclique Deck. Blitzclique Decks were one of the most popular Decks in the tournament, and Getter is hoping that his Blitzclique Deck will win him the championship trophy and the Ultra Rare Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning prize card this weekend. One of these Duelists will advance to the Top 4. The other will be eliminated. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Getter started off Duel by 1 by activating Hideout in the Sky, Coulomb.

He activated its effect to Special Summon a Mech Beast Token to Gouge’s field and add Surge Blitzclique from his Deck to his hand. He activated Blitzclique – Steppleader next and then activated the Steppleader’s effect. He Special Summoned Surge and destroyed the Steppleader. Next, he used Surge’s effect to add Grain Blitzclique from his Deck to his hand. He activated the effect of Whisker Blitzclique in his hand next, Summoning Whisker and Grain from his hand and destroying the Token. He activated the effects of Grain and Steppleader in a new Chain, returning Steppleader from his Graveyard to his hand and adding Blitzclique – Breakaway from his Deck to his hand with Grain’s effect. He activated Breakaway and used its effect to place Blitzclique Alternator from his Deck face-up on his field. Next, he used Alternator’s effect and returned Grain from his field to his Deck to add Emi Blitzclique from his Deck to his hand. He used Emi’s effect to destroy the Alternator and Special Summon Emi. He activated the effect of Breakaway in his Graveyard to try to return it to his hand, but Gouge Chained the effect of D.D. Crow from his hand to banish it. Next, Getter banished Alternator from his Graveyard to add another Breakaway from his Deck to his hand. He activated Steppleader and then Set 2 cards to his back row before ending his turn.

Gouge drew Aleister the Invoker and added it to his hand of Empire of Endymion; Tails of the Fairy Tails; Aiwass, Divine Spirit of the Law; and Virakam, the Divine Spirit of Artifice. He activated the Empire of Endymion and used its effect to add Regulus, the Prince of Endymion from his Deck to his hand. Next, he banished Aiwass from his hand to activate its effect and add Aleister the Reminiscent from his Deck to his hand. Next, he activated the effect of Regulus in his hand by revealing the Reminiscent from his hand. He lost 1200 Life Points and Special Summoned Regulus. Getter activated Blitzclique – Breakaway. He returned Emi to his own hand and destroyed Regulus. He then used Emi’s effect in his hand in a new Chain to destroy Empire of Endymion and Summon Emi. He activated Surge’s effect in a new Chain, Chaining Breakaway’s effect. He returned Breakaway from his Graveyard to his hand and added Crackle Blitzclique from his Deck to his hand with Surge’s effect. Next, Gouge Normal Summoned Aleister the Invoker. He activated its effect, but Getter activated the effect of Whisker. He returned Surge to his hand in order to negate Aleister’s effect and destroy Aleister. Getter activated the effect of the Emi on his field in a new Chain, sending Alternator from his Deck to his Graveyard. Next, Gouge activated the effect of Virakam to Special Summon it from his hand and used its on-field effect to Set Invocation from his Deck. On resolution, Getter activated the effect of Whisker in his hand. He Special Summoned it along with a Surge from his hand and destroyed both cards on Gouge’s field. With just a Tails of the Fairy Tails and Aleister the Reminiscent in his hand, Gouge conceded.

Duel Two

Gouge opened up Duel 2 with Aleister the Invoker, Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, Genia of the Ring, and 2 copies of Magic Deflector.

He Normal Summoned Aleister and used its effect to add Invocation from his Deck to his hand. Next, he activated the effect of Genia of the Ring in his hand to Special Summon it. He combined both of his Monsters to Xyz Summon Fairy Tail – Wiccat and activated its effect. He detached both Xyz Materials from it to send Fairy Tail – Matchgiru and Tails of the Fairy Tails to the Graveyard. He Special Summoned Matchgiru from his Graveyard and used its effect to add Fairy Tail Ball from his Deck to his hand. He activated Ball and used its effect to add Fairy Tail – Luna from his Deck to his hand. Next, he activated the effect of Tails of the Fairy Tails in the Graveyard to equip it to Wiccat and Normal Summon Luna from his hand. He used Luna’s effect to add Fairy Tail – Snow from his Deck to his hand. He then activated the effect of Tails of the Fairy Tails to fuse Snow from his hand with Wiccat on his field and Fusion Summon Teller of Fairy Tails in Defense Position. He Set both Magic Deflectors and Invocation before ending his turn.

Getter drew a card and then activated Breakaway in the Draw Phase; but Getter Chained Magic Deflector to negate it! In his Main Phase, he activated Pot of Extravagance and banished 6 random cards from his Extra Deck face-down and drew 2 cards. He then Tributed Luna and Teller from Gouge’s field to Special Summon Lava Golem to his field in Defense Position. Next, he activated Dark Hole to destroy Matchgiru and Lava Golem. He thought for a moment and then conceded, realizing he would be defeated on Gouge’s next turn.

The Match is going to a third and final Duel!

Duel Three

Getter started off Duel 3 by activating Breakaway in his Draw Phase to place Alternator from his Deck face-up on his field. He then activated Alternator’s effect by returning Surge from his hand to his Deck and added Emi from his Deck to his hand. He activated Emi’s effect by targeting his Alternator. He destroyed the Alternator and then Special Summoned Emi. In a new Chain, he activated the effect of Breakaway to return the Breakaway from his Graveyard to his hand. Then, he banished Alternator from his Graveyard to add Coulomb from his Deck to his hand. He moved into his Main Phase and then Normal Summoned Surge and activated Coulomb. He activated Coulomb’s effect to Special Summon a Token to Gouge’s field and add Surge from his Deck to his hand. He activated the effect of Surge in his hand to destroy the Token and Special Summon Surge. He activated the effects of Surge and Emi on his field. He added Alternator from his Deck to his hand with Emi’s effect and added Whisker from his Deck to his hand with Surge’s effect. He Set 4 cards to his back row and then ended his turn.

Gouge drew Santa Claws and added it to his hand of Magical Meltdown, Aleister the Reminiscent, Snow, and 2 copies of Luna. In the Standby Phase, Getter flipped Alternator and activated its effect. He returned Surge from his field to his Deck and added Crackle from his Deck to his hand. Gouge entered his Main Phase and activated Magical Meltdown. Getter Chained Breakaway and returned Surge to his hand to destroy Meltdown. Gouge Special Summoned Santa Claws to Getter’s field by Tributing Emi and then Normal Summoned Luna. He activated its effect. Getter Chained Forbidden Chalice to try to negate Luna’s effect, and Gouge Chained Luna’s effect to return the Luna and Santa Claws to his hand, allowing Luna’s effect to resolve! He added Genia of the Ring from his Deck to his hand with Luna’s effect. He ended his turn with no cards on his field.

Getter drew a card and then used Alternator’s effect to shuffle Crackle from his hand back into his Deck and add Grain from his Deck to his hand. He entered his Main Phase and used Grain’s effect to destroy his Alternator and Special Summon Grain from his hand. Next, he activated the effect of the Breakaway in his Graveyard to return the Breakaway to his hand. He activated Steppleader next, and activated the effect of Whisker in his hand to Special Summon Whisker and Surge from his hand. He destroyed Steppleader with Whisker’s effect and then activated the effects of Surge and Grain in a new Chain. He added Breakaway and Surge from his Deck to his hand with their effects. He Normal Summoned Surge and then entered his Battle Phase. Direct attacks from all 4 Blitzclique monsters wiped out all of Gouge’s Life Points!
