Welcome to Round 1 of Genesys here at YCS Orlando! We’re here with Jesse Kotton, the Toronto Duelist who’s a YCS Champion, a World Champion, and the Ultimate Duelist – he’s got titles to spare! Kotton’s playing Magistus Fairy Tail today, which he used for a Top 8 finish at YCS Houston. His opponent is Scott Vukelic, an Orlando local attending his first YCS! Halloween has come and gone, but Vukelic’s still rocking a Pumpking Deck in today’s competition.

Duel 1

Vukelic won the dice roll and chose to play first. Kotton began with Fairy Tail Ball; Regulus, the Prince of Endymion; Mulcharmy Fuwalos; Genni, the Maid of Endymion; and Rilliona, the Magistus of Verre.

Vukelic led Uni-Zombie, using its effect to increase its Level and send Doomking Balerdroch to the Graveyard. He then used Uni-Zombie’s other effect, discarding Glow-Up Bloom to increase its Level. Bloom’s effect put Pumpking the King of Grave Ghosts in his hand, and he used that to Set Call of the Haunted and discard Pumpking. He flipped up Call of the Haunted to Special Summon Pumpking, and Kotton Chained Fuwalos’s effect. Vukelic used Pumpking’s effect to Special Summon Hubrow, Founder of the Ominous Observers, and Kotton’s Fuwalos let him draw Gordian Slicer. Vukelic used Hubrow to send Stare of the Snake Hair to the Graveyard and added it to his hand. He Xyz Summoned Pumpking the Great Ghost King, and Kotton drew Witchcrafter Creation. Pumpking the Great Ghost King added Call of the Forgotten to his hand. He used Stare’s effect to add Vortex of Time to his hand. He used Pumpking the Great Ghost King’s effect, detaching a material to return Call of the Haunted to his hand. He activated Call of the Forgotten to Set two more copies of Call of the Haunted from his Deck. He Set two more cards from his hand and passed the turn.

Kotton drew Verre Magic – Lacrima of Light. In the Draw Phase, Vukelic flipped Call of the Haunted to Special Summon Pumpking, which brought Officiating Reverie to the field. In the Standby Phase, he then Special Summoned Doomking Balerdroch from the Graveyard. Kotton activated Regulus’s effect to Special Summon it, then added Empire of Endymion to his hand. He activated Empire, adding Verre, Maid of Endymion to his hand, and Special Summoned Rilliona. That let him add Magistus Invocation to his hand. He Xyz Summoned Evilswarm Exciton Knight! He activated its effect, and Vukelic flipped up Vortex of Time! He flipped Tails, changing Exciton’s effect to banish it! Kotton continued by Special Summoning Verre, which added Verre Magic – Lacrima of Light to his hand. He Special Summoned Genni, then activated Fairy Tail Ball to add Fairy Tail – Luna to his hand. He Normal Summoned Luna, and added Genia of the Ring to his hand. He Special Summoned Genia, usifang it and Verre to Xyz Summon Fairy Tail – Wiccat. Wiccat’s effect sent Fairy Tail – Matchgiru and Fairy Tail – Snow to the Graveyard. He Special Summoned Matchgiru, adding Tails of the Fairy Tails to his hand. He played Witchcrafter Creation to add Witchcrafter Genni to his hand, and played Magistus Invocation. He fused Witchcrafter Genni with Wiccat into Weaver of Fairy Tails. Its effect let him Special Summon Fairy Tail – Luna, but the Weaver couldn’t target Vukelic’s monsters due to the effect of Pumpking the Great Ghost King. Kotton was unphased, equipping Tails of the Fairy Tails to one of his monsters. Thanks to Fairy Tail Ball, he attacked directly with everything to end the first Duel!

Duel 2

Kotton started this time with Genia of the Ring, Tails of the Fairy Tails, Regulus, Empire of Endymion, and Mulcharmy Fuwalos.

Vukelic began by Normal Summoning Hubrow, sending Pumpking to the Graveyard and adding it to his hand. He activated Pumpking’s effect, and Kotton Chained Fuwalos. Pumpking’s effect Set Call of the Haunted, then discarded the same Pumpking. Vukelic flipped Call of the Haunted to Special Summon Pumpking, which brought Officiating Reverie to the field – Kotton drew Cosmic Cyclone. Vukelic used Stare of the Snake Hair’s effect to add Vortex of Time to his hand. He used Hubrow and Pumpking to Xyz Summon Pumpking the Great Ghost King, and Kotton drew Verre Magic – Lacrima of Light. Great Ghost King’s effect added Call of the Forgotten to Vukelic’s hand. He used Pumpking’s effect to return Call of the Haunted and Reverie to his hand. He used Reverie’s effect, discarding Balerdroch to Special Summon Reverie. He activated Call of the Forgotten to Set two more copies of Call of the Haunted. He Set another two cards in his back row.

Kotton drew Verre Magic – Lacrima of Light. In the Draw Phase, he used Cosmic Cyclone, trying to banish Call of the Forgotten. Vukelic responded with Vortex of Time, flipping Tails. Cosmic Cyclone failed to banish Vukelic’s Field Spell. Vukelic now used Call of the Haunted to Special Summon Pumpking the King of Grave Ghosts, which in turn let him Special Summon Hubrow. Hubrow sent Great Mammoth of the Netherworld to the Graveyard, returning Stare of the Snake Hair to his hand. In the Standby Phase, Vukelic Special Summoned Balerdroch. Hubrow then let him use Pumpking and Reverie to Xyz Summon Officiator of Doom Samuel! Kotton Special Summoned Regulus from his hand, and Vukelic used Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate its effect on the field. Kotton played Empire to add Verre to his hand, and Special Summoned Genia of the Ring. He Special Summoned Verre, then activated its effect. Vukelic Chained Samuel’s effect, and Kotton Chained Lacrima of Light to send Witcrafter Genni to the Graveyard, blocking Doomking Balerdroch from activating its effect. Samuel brought Mammoth to the field and negated Verre. In a new Chain, Mammoth targeted Genia of the Ring. Trying to block Balerdroch again, Kotton Chained his second Lacrima of Light to Special Summon Zoroa, the Magistus of Flame from his Deck. Mammoth destroyed Genia of the Ring. Kotton used Verre and Regulus to Xyz Summon Wiccat, which sent Matchgiru and Snow to the Graveyard. He Special Summoned Matchgiru, and added Fairy Tail Ball to his hand. He activated Ball to add Luna to his hand. He Normal Summoned Luna and added another Luna to his hand. He used Matchgiru’s effect to make Pumpking the Great Ghost King into a lesser royalty, changing its name to “Prince of Fairies”. Kotton equipped Tails of the Fairy Tails to Luna and moved to the Battle Phase. He attacked directly with everything thanks to Fairy Tail Ball, then Special Summoned Snow from his Graveyard. Snow attacked to end the Match!

Jesse Kotton is the victor with Magistus Fairy Tails!
