It all comes down to this! We have the two top Dragon Duelists from this weekend! Hailing from Lafayette, we have Vincent F. with a Dark Magician Deck focused around Light and Darkness Ritual. He’s facing Maxwell S., from right here in Houston, using a Mitsurugi Red Dragon Archfiend Deck. The winner here will take home the Super Rare Number 93: Utopia Kaiser, the trophy, and the title of YCS Houston Dragon Duel Champion!

Duel 1

Maxwell won the dice roll and chose to play first. Vincent had a hand of Black Chaos; Mulcharmy Fuwalos; Crossout Designator; The Fallen & The Virtuous; and Dark Magician, the Pharaoh’s Servant.

Maxwell Special Summoned Bone Archfiend by discarding Crimson Resonator. Bone Archfiend sent Vision Resonator to the Graveyard, and Vincent responded with Fuwalos to start drawing cards if Maxwell continued his plays. Maxwell added Crimson Gaia to his hand with Vision’s effect, and he played that to add Soul Resonator. He Normal Summoned Soul to add Darkness Resonator to his hand. He Synchro Summoned Red Rising Dragon, and Rising brought Crimson Resonator to the field, which in turn brought Synkron Resonator and Soul Resonator to the field. Maxwell Synchro Summoned Scarred Dragon Archfiend, then Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss. Scarred brought Red Dragon Archfiend to the field. He tried to Special Summon Darkness Resonator, but was hit by Vincent’s Dominus Impulse. He played Pre-Preparation of Rites, adding Mitsurugi Mirror and Ame no Habakiri no Mitsurugi to his hand. He used Habakiri’s effect to Special Summon Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Saji, and Tributed it. Saji’s effect added Mitsurugi Prayers to his hand. He played Mitsurugi Ritual, Tributing Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Aramasa and Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Kusanagi from his Deck to Ritual Summon Habakiri. Kusanagi returned Saji to his hand, and Aramasa added Ame no Murakumo no Mitsurugi to his hand. He played Mitsurugi Mirror, Tributing Habakiri to Ritual Summon Murakumo, and Habakiri’s effect let him add Mitsurugi Great Purification to his hand. He Set one back row card, then stacked Red Dragon Archfiend and Murakumo for The Zombie Vampire. He tried to use its effect by detaching Murakumo, but was hit by Infinite Impermanence. Maxwell played Prayers, taking 800 damage to Special Summon Murakumo.

After all that, Fuwalos had let Vincent draw Secrets of Dark Magic, Celtic Mystic, a second Black Chaos, Magician’s Rod, Dark Magical Circle, plus the Infinite Impermanence and Dominus Impulse he’d already used this turn.

Vincent drew another Fuwalos. He Special Summoned Dark Magician, the Pharaoh’s Servant by revealing Crossout Designator, then added Dark Magical Circle to his hand. He activated its Quick Effect next, discarding Crossout Designator, and Maxwell negated it with Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss. Vincent Normal Summoned Magician’s Rod, Maxwell Chained Murakumo to force Vincent to discard, and he discarded Fuwalos. Rod added Dark Magical Curtain to his hand. He used Black Chaos’s effect to place Mind Shuffle on the field. He used its effect, and Maxwell flipped Great Purification by Tributing Murakumo to negate and destroy Mind Shuffle. Murakumo’s effect let Maxwell add Prayers to his hand, then he Special Summoned Murakumo. Murakumo now wiped out all of Vincent’s monsters! Vincent continued, flipping up Dark Magical Circle and using Curtain to Special Summon Dark Magician and add The Gaze of Timaeus to his hand. Dark Magical Circle then banished Murakumo! He banished Dark Magician to Special Summon Dark Magician of Destruction! He added Illusion of Chaos to his hand. He used Illusion’s effect to add Magicians’ Souls to his hand, and put Celtic Mystic on top of his Deck. He Special Summoned Black Chaos by shuffling Illusion of Chaos into the Deck. Maxwell revealed Nibiru, the Primal Being! Vincent’s monsters were gone, replaced with a 12,900 ATK /11,000 DEF Primal Being Token. Maxwell now activated Vision Resonator’s effect to add Red Reign to his hand. Vincent Special Summoned Magicians’ Souls by sending Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos to the Graveyard. He used its effect, sending Circle and The Fallen & The Virtuous to the Graveyard to draw Griffoh and Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. He activated The Gaze of Timaeus! He returned Dark Magician of Destruction from the Graveyard to Special Summon Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon! He activated Griffoh to Set Mind Shuffle. He used the Primal Being Token and Magicians’ Souls to Link Summon Dharc the Dark Charmer, Gloomy, and used it to Special Summon Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss! Finally, he moved to the Battle Phase. Hot Red Dragon attacked Nibiru, and Dragoon attacked directly, dropping Maxwell to 2150 Life Points.

Maxwell activated Crimson Gaia’s effect, and Vincent responded with Mind Shuffle. He added Skull Archfiend of Chaos to his hand and discarded it. Crimson Gaia then put a Fiend Piece Golem in his hand. Skull Archfiend’s effect sent Light and Darkness Ritual to Vincent’s Graveyard and put Black Luster Soldier – Soldier of Light and Darkness in his hand. Maxwell Special Summoned Bone Archfiend by discarding Saji. He Special Summoned Darkness Resonator, then Special Summoned Fiend Piece Golem. He activated Prayers, and Vincent negated it with Ash Blossom. Maxwell used Darkness Resonator and Fiend Piece Golem to Synchro Summon Draco Berserker of the Tenyi. He Set one back row card and moved to the Battle Phase. Vincent flipped Dark Magical Curtain to Special Summon Black Chaos. Maxwell sent Draco Berserker to attack Dharc, gaining 1150 ATK, and it then attacked Dragoon.

Vincent drew Celtic Mystic. He added Light and Darkness Ritual and Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos to his hand, and played it to Ritual Summon the Magician by Tributing Black Luster. He used his Magician’s effect, adding The Gaze of Timaeus to his hand. He activated the effect of Skull Archfiend, returning Dragoon, Black Luster, and his banished Dark Magician to Special Summon the Skull Archfiend. He banished his Ritual Monster to Special Summon Dark Magician of Destruction, adding Dark Magical Curtain to his hand, and he played that to Special Summon Dark Magician. He activated Gaze, using Dark Magician to bring forth Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon! He negated Draco Berserker with Hot Red Dragon, then activated Dragoon’s effect to destroy Draco Berserker! Maxwell tried to use Red Reign, but Dragoon negated and destroyed it! Vincent sent everything to attack and end the first Duel!

Duel 2

Maxwell played first for this Duel. Vincent had a hand of Griffoh, Mulcharmy Fuwalos, two copies of Kuriboh – Multiply!, and Ragged Records of Rites.

Maxwell led with Pre-Preparation of Rites, and Vincent Chained Fuwalos. Maxwell added Habakiri and Mitsurugi Ritual to his hand. He played Crimson Gaia, adding Soul Resonator. He Normal Summoned Soul, and activated its effect. Vincent Chained to Special Summon his Kuriboh, and Maxwell added Bone Archfiend. He Special Summoned Bone Archfiend, discarding Prayers. He activated Bone Archfiend, Vincent Chained the Kuriboh’s effect, and then Chained Griffoh’s effect. Vincent Set Mind Shuffle, then Special Summoned a second Kuriboh – Multiply! from his Deck, and Bone Archfiend sent Crimson Resonator to the Graveyard. Maxwell Synchro Summoned Red Rising Dragon. Vincent drew Dark Magical Curtain with Fuwalos, and Chained to Red Rising’s effect with Mind Shuffle’s effect, and Maxwell activated Droll & Lock Bird (since Vincent had drawn from Fuwalos). Mind Shuffle couldn’t resolve under Droll’s effect, and Red Rising brought Crimson Resonator to the field. He used Crimson to Special Summon Synkron Resonator and Vision Resonator. He Synchro Summoned Scarred Dragon Archfiend, then used it to Synchro Summon Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss. Scarred brought Red Dragon Archfiend to the field. He Special Summoned Vision and Fiend Piece Golem. He Synchro Summoned Crimson Blade Dragon, activating its effect. Vincent Chained his Kuriboh, and it was negated by Hot Red Dragon. Crimson Blade Dragon let Maxwell Special Summon Murakumo from the Deck with its effects negated. He Synchro Summoned Bystial Dis Pater. He activated Mitsurugi Ritual, Tributing Saji and Aramasa from his Deck to Ritual Summon Habakiri from his hand.

Vincent drew The Gaze of Timaeus. He used one of his Kuribohs to Link Summon Relinquished Anima, pointing at Crimson Blade Dragon, and used its effect to equip it. Then he Link Summoned S:P Little Knight, targeting Murakumo to banish it. Vincent played Ragged Records, but Maxwell negated it with Hot Red Dragon. Vincent played Curtain to Special Summon Black Chaos, using its effect to banish two of Maxwell’s cards. Maxwell Chained Dis Pater, and Vincent responded with S:P Little Knight to banish Black Chaos and Hot Red Dragon temporarily. Finally, Black Chaos banished Dis Pater and Habakiri. Vincent Normal Summoned Kuriboh – Multiply!, then activated Mind Shuffle’s effect. He added Skull Archfiend and discarded it. Skull Archfiend then sent Light and Darkness Ritual to the Graveyard to add Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos to his hand. He activated Light and Darkness Ritual’s effect, returning it to his hand along with Griffoh. He played Light and Darkness Ritual, using Griffoh as the Tribute for his Magician. He activated the Magician’s effect to add Light and Darkness Ritual back to his hand. He used Magician to banish Crimson Gaia face-down. He banished the Magician to Special Summon Dark Magician of Destruction, which added Magicians’ Souls to his hand. He Special Summoned Souls by sending Black Chaos to the Graveyard. He activated its effect, sending Light and Darkness Ritual to the Graveyard to draw Dark Magician. He used S:P Little Knight and Souls to Link Summon Selene, Queen of the Master Magicians, and put 6 Spell Counters on it. He used Selene’s effect to Special Summon Black Chaos. He used Selene and Black Chaos to Link Summon Dharc, and used it to Special Summon Scarred from Maxwell’s Graveyard. He activated The Gaze of Timaeus, sending Dark Magician of Destruction back to the Extra Deck to bring forth Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon. He Special Summoned Skull Archfiend of Chaos from the Graveyard by returning Griffoh, Gaze, and Curtain to the bottom of his Deck. He used Dharc and Kuriboh to Link Summon W:P Fancy Ball to finish the turn. In the End Phase, Hot Red Dragon returned to Maxwell’s field, and Black Chaos returned to Vincent’s field.

Maxwell discarded Droll & Lock Bird to Special Summon Bone Archfiend from the Graveyard, and Vincent negated it with Dragoon. Maxwell sent Hot Red Dragon to attack Dragoon, destroying it in battle.

Vincent drew Fuwalos. He used Light and Darkness Ritual’s effect, returning it and Black Chaos to his hand. Vincent used W:P Fancy Ball and Skull Archfiend to Link Summon Accesscode Talker! He used its effect to destroy Hot Red Dragon, and Maxwell banished Soul Resonator to protect his monster. Vincent used its effect again to destroy Hot Red Dragon, clearing the way for him to attack!
