Public Events Playoffs Feature Match: Andrew Henderson (Dino-Rabbits) versus Brian Small (HEROes)

April 30th, 2012

At the end of every event, we have two separate playoffs based on Public Events. One Set has players selected based on the number of points they accumulated in Public Events throughout the weekend. The other chooses its players randomly. The winners of each receive a Super Rare Blood Mefist card! This match is the finals for the random playoffs, so these Duelists were chosen completely at random!

Andrew Henderson is a Minnesota native, who has previously won a Crush Card Virus in public event playoffs. He’s back to try once more with Dino-Rabbit! Brian Small is joining him in the finals with his HERO deck. This is Brian’s first YCS event!

Duel One

Henderson started with a hand of Pot of Avarice, Sabersaurus, Mystical Space Typhoon, Smashing Ground, and Effect Veiler. He drew Dark Hole. He Normal Summoned Sabersaurus, Set Mystical Space Typhoon, and ended.

Small’s Pot of Duality revealed Miracle Fusion, Solemn Warning, and Elemental HERO Bubbleman. He chose Miracle Fusion and added it to his hand. Then he summoned Elemental HERO Neos Alius, crashing Neos Alius into Sabersaurus. He Set 2 back row cards and ended.

Henderson drew another Mystical Space Typhoon. He Set it with his other one and ended.

Small Set two more back row cards and ended.

Henderson drew Bottomless Trap Hole. He Set it.

Small Set a back row card and passed.

Henderson drew Sangan and summoned it. Sangan attacked directly for the first damage of the Duel.

Small drew and Set a back row card.

Henderson drew Forbidden Lance. He attacked with Sangan again, then Set Lance.

Small drew and Set back row card.

Henderson drew Dimensional Prison, and Sangan once again attacked directly.

Small finally Set a monster!

Henderson tried to capitalize on it with the Jurrac Guaiba he just drew! Guaiba’s effect was negated by Effect Veiler however. It attacked and destroyed Elemental HERO Bubbleman anyway, and Sangan attacked directly.

Small used Miracle Fusion, and Henderson activated his Solemn Warning. Small had Dark Bribe though to counter it! Henderson drew Sabersaurus for Bribe, and Miracle Fusion banished Neos Alius and Bubbleman for Elemental HERO The Shining. Bottomless Trap Hole tried to banish it, but Book of Moon turned it face-down and saved it. Henderson Chained Forbidden Lance to make Book of Moon unable to affect The Shining, but forgot that Lance would also protect it from his own Bottomless Trap Hole! Unaffected by Book of Moon AND Bottomless, The Shining attacked and destroyed Guaiba. Small Set a back row and ended his turn.

Henderson drew another Lance. He used Dark Hole. The Shining gave Small his Neos Alius and Bubbleman back, and Sangan gave Henderson Rescue Rabbit. He Summoned the Rabbit, but it was destroyed by Torrential Tribute. Pot of Avarice targeted 2 Rabbits, Sangan, Sabersaurus, and Guaiba, returning them to the deck to give Henderson Monster Reborn and Kabazauls. He Set 2 back rows.

Small summoned Neos Alius, and Dimensional Prison was used when it attacked. In response, Small use Gemini Spark Tributing Neos Alius it to destroy Lance. Small Set a few more back rows and ended.

Henderson summoned Sabersaurus to attack, and Small used Hero Blast to destroy it and retrieve Neos Alius.

Small used Pot of Duality, revealing Dark Hole, Effect Veiler, and Miracle Fusion. He added Miracle Fusion to his hand. Then he summoned Neos Alius once more, attacking directly. He Set a third back row.

Henderson used Smashing Ground destroyed Neos Alius, and Kabazauls was summoned. It attacked directly. Henderson Set Lance and ended his turn.

Small used Monster Reborn on Neos Alius! He Set two more back row cards to empty his hand, then Special Summoned the last card: Bubbleman! Neos Alius and Bubbleman were overlayed for Blade Armor Ninja. It detached Neos Alius to use its effect on itself. Then, Miracle Fusion was flipped up, banishing Neos Alius and The Shining to summon another copy of The Shining. When Small attacked for the win and Henderson tried to use Forbidden Lance, Small had Solemn Judgment to guarantee his victory!

A misplay with Forbidden Lance may have cost Henderson the Duel! Both Duelists moved for their Side Decks, and Duel 2 was underway soon after.

Duel Two

Henderson started with one Set monster  and two back row cards.

Small had E – Emergency Call, getting Elemental HERO Stratos. He summoned it and activated its effect. Henderson banished it with Bottomless Trap Hole, and Stratos added Neos Alius to Small’s hand. Pot of Duality was used next, giving Small a Bottomless Trap Hole. He Set it and Henderson’s Mystical Space Typhoon destroyed it in the End Phase.

Henderson summoned Kabazauls and attacked, then Set two back row cards.

Small summoned Neos Alius, and another Bottomless Trap Hole banished it.

Henderson drew and added Heavy Storm to his hand of Smashing Ground and Cyber Dragon. Kabazauls attacked again.

Small summoned Neos Alius, but Book of Moon blocked its attack.

Henderson attacked it with Kabazauls. He Set the Torrential Tribute he just drew.

Small’s Monster Reborn brought back Neos Alius, which took down Kabazauls. Small Set two back rows.

Henderson’s Smashing Ground took down Neos Alius again. Henderson then summoned Sabersaurus and attacked directly.

Small summoned yet another Neos Alius, but Torrential Tribute blew away both it and Sabersaurus. Small pressed on, using Miracle Fusion to bring out Elemental HERO The Shining. It attacked directly.

Henderson drew Tour Guide From the Underworld. Heavy Storm wiped away Small’s back row:  Solemn Warning and Super Polymerization. When he summoned Tour Guide, Effect Veiler negated it, and Henderson conceded!

Congratulations to Brian Small!

After Brian went to receive his prize, one of our judges congratulated him on winning his prize card. Brian replied, “Oh, it’s a card?” Apparently he didn’t really know what the prize was which he was playing for! When he realized it was a Super Rare Blood Mefist, he was definitely excited!
