2,239 Duelists are in the thick of Round 1, all vying for a chance to make the Top Cut and compete for the title of 2016 North American WCQ Champion!
Congratulations to Argentina’s Joaquin Rinaldi Petroni for defeating Colombia’s Carlos Eduardo Lopez Rangel in the finals of the 2016 South American World Championship Qualifier! Petroni’s explosive Dracoslayer Performapal Deck came out strong to defeat Lopez’s Fire King Kozmos.
Petroni will go on to challenge for the greatest title Dueling has to offer, traveling to Orlando in August for the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME World Championship.
Fifteen Rounds of competition and an entire year of qualifying events has all come down to this: 292 Duelists have been whittled down to just two, and by the end of this Match, one of them will be the new South American Champion. The winner here takes it all: an extra copy of Minerva, the Exalted Lightsworn; a 64GB iPad; the title of Champion; and the honor of representing their country and South America as a whole at the 2016 World Championship in August.
Carlos Eduardo Lopez Rangel is Dueling for Colombia, armed with Fire King Kozmos. His opponent is Argentina’s Joaquin Rinaldi Petroni, playing Dracoslayer Performapals with Majespecter Unicorn – Kirin. Both of these Decks are tremendously explosive, and can make massive fields on Turn 1 that are virtually impossible to answer. The early game was going to be clutch, and one misstep could easily become the downfall of either Duelist. Each needed to play flawlessly, and a little help from the Heart of the Cards wouldn’t be bad either.
We have a Dragon Duel Champion to represent South America at the 2016 World Championship to be held in Orlando, Florida!
12-year-old Alvaro Fernando Soberon from Lima, Peru, beat 11-year old Christian Xavier Suarez from Quito, Ecuador using a Monarch Deck to become the new 2016 South American Dragon Duel Champion.
Congratulations to Alvaro Soberon! See you in Orlando!
The Dragon Duel World Championship Qualifier (WCQ) was almost finished, and two youth Duelists were left to duke it out! Everything was at stake here: the tournament, the title, and a seat in the Dragon Duel World Championship in Orlando this August.
Christian Xavier Suarez Espinoza is the Ecuadorean Dragon Duel National Champion, while Alvaro Fernando Soberon Tejada is the Peruvian Dragon Duel National Champion! Both Duelists are running Monarchs, so this mirror match could be decided by luck, skill, or a combination of both. Let’s get to it!

Here in the Top 8, two Duelists from Ecuador were about to tear each other apart with two vastly different Decks! Mateo Germanico Arboleda Zamora is running Kozmos with Card of Demise, while Johnny Steven Quintana Aguilar is playing Majespecter Magicians. This one should be really interesting to watch.
