Absolute Powerforce Preview: Earthbound Linewalker

February 4th, 2010

You’ve been asking for it, and now it’s here! In the online survey for Raging Battle, we asked you what you thought would help the Earthbound Immortals. The response was clear: a way to keep your Earthbound Immortal around even without a Field Spell in play. Say hello to “Earthbound Linewalker”!

ABPF-EN088

This monster has a very simple effect. While it’s face-up on the field, “Earthbound Immortal” monsters cannot be destroyed by their own effects. This includes their effect that would destroy them if there’s no Field Spell Card on the field!

You can Summon “Earthbound Linewalker” while you already control an “Earthbound Immortal” and a face-up Field Spell, so that even if your Field Spell is destroyed your Immortal will be safe. Alternatively, you can Summon “Earthbound Linewalker” first even if you don’t have a Field Spell, and then Summon an Earthbound Immortal later, perhaps with the effect of “Revival of the Immortals.”

Once you have your Immortal of choice and the Linewalker on the field, you can protect them both from Spell and Trap Cards with “Earthbound Wave.” Your Earthbound Immortal may be safe from attacks, but your Linewalker isn’t.  If you don’t have a Field Spell out, protecting “Earthbound Linewalker” is your top priority. “Roar of the Earthbound” can block one attack from any monster weaker than your Earthbound Immortal, destroy the attacking monster, and deal damage to your opponent equal to half that monster’s ATK.

Some Earthbound Immortals work especially well with “Earthbound Linewalker.”

Both “Earthbound Immortal Chacu Challhua” and “Earthbound Immortal Ccapac Apu” have effects that can deal damage to your opponent. That makes them ideal Immortals to bring back with “Revival of the Immortals” from Ancient Prophecy. An Earthbound Immortal brought back from the Graveyard with “Revival of the Immortals” cannot deal Battle Damage, but for these two it doesn’t matter.

You can send either Earthbound Immortal straight to the Graveyard with “Foolish Burial” or “Armageddon Knight,” then Summon “Earthbound Linewalker.” Then you can use “Revival of the Immortals” to Special Summon your Immortal.  Special Summon Chacu Challhua in Defense Position, and your opponent won’t even be able to have a Battle Phase, protecting your “Earthbound Linewalker” without any other cards. Even better, every turn, Chacu Challhua can deal damage to your opponent equal to half of its DEF! As long as you watch out for Spells, Traps, and Effect Monsters, your opponent won’t be able to touch your Life Points.

If you’d rather attack with your monsters, use “Earthbound Immortal Ccapac Apu” instead.  It deals damage to your opponent equal to the ATK of any monster it destroys. This is a much riskier strategy, but it can be a lot more fun to battle your opponent’s monsters and destroy them all!
