How to Get Around Archlord Krystia

February 11th, 2010

“Archlord Kristya” has the ability to halt all Special Summons while it is on the field, as well as go back to the top of the Deck whenever it is sent from the field to the Graveyard. You can even Special Summon “Archlord Kristya” while you have exactly 4 Fairy-Type monsters in your Graveyard, and when you do, you get to add one Fairy-Type monster from your Graveyard to your hand. These effects let a Kristya user recycle it and the Fairy-Type monsters in the Graveyard infinitely, as long as you can’t do anything about it. Thankfully, there are many ways to stop Krystia from damaging your strategy beyond repair.

Prevent The Summon

While you can Normal Summon “Archlord Kristya,”  the easiest, most efficient, and most desirable way of summoning it will usually be with its built-in effect. The easiest way of preventing this is to make sure your opponent’s Graveyard never has exactly 4 Fairy-Type monsters in it. Preferably though, you’ll want them to have no Fairy-Type monsters at all in the Graveyard. An “Archlord Kristya” based Lightsworn Deck can easily get 2 or 3 Fairy-Type monsters into the Graveyard in just one turn given the chance, making it dangerous to let them have any sort of head start. If you can do that, you’ll be slowing down your opponent considerably and allowing yourself some more time to prepare for Kristya should it make an appearance to the field.

However, this is much easier said than done. You’re going to need to keep an eye on your opponent’s Graveyard at all times and take measures to assure the Graveyard doesn’t get to the danger zone of 4 Fairy-Type monsters. By using cards like “D.D. Crow,” “The Transmigration Prophecy,” and “Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer,” you can control the contents of your opponent’s Graveyard call the shots on what can stay and what has to go.

Regulate your opponent's Graveyard to avoid seeing this every turn.

Don’t Let it Happen Again!

Even after all your work, your opponent might still find a way to get “Archlord Kristya” on to the field. Don’t let this get you down though! There are still a lot of ways to get rid of Kristya for good. The first way is simple, destroy it in any way and be sure to keep that Graveyard below or above 4 Fairys once again. This isn’t a permanent solution though, and probably isn’t what you’re going to want to do. The best way to eliminate Kristya for good is to remove it from the game. Using cards like “Caius the Shadow Monarch,” “Dimensional Prison,” and even “Karma Cut,” you could get rid of that annoyance for good! Don’t forget that the old favorite “Bottomless Trap Hole” also stops Kristya cold. “Light-Imprisoning Mirror” is also a fantastic counter to Kristya that will probably disrupt a lot of the other Fairy-Type monsters in the Deck.
