Obelisk the Tormentor
At last, you can Summon one of the 3 Egyptian God Cards that were the focus of Seto Kaiba’s Battle City Tournament. Just like Kaiba’s Obelisk in the original Yu-Gi-Oh! animated series, “Obelisk the Tormentor” has a remarkable 4000 ATK plus a plethora of formidable effects.
Unlike other monsters that are Level 7 or higher, “Obelisk the Tormentor” requires 3 Tributes to Normal Summon it. When you Normal Summon it, its Summon can’t be negated by cards like “Solemn Judgment” or “Horn of Heaven.” Spells, Traps, and monster effects can’t be activated when it’s Normal Summoned either, so your opponent’s “Bottomless Trap Hole” won’t be able to destroy your Obelisk. Obelisk even protects itself from Spells, Traps, and Effect Monsters that target it, like “Soul Taker,” “Icarus Attack,” and “Chaos Sorcerer.” No wonder Kaiba was always so confident when he Dueled!
Even though Obelisk requires 3 Tributes to Normal Summon it, it can still be Special Summoned from your hand or Deck through certain card effects. Obelisk will be sent to the Graveyard during your End Phase if you Special Summon it, but with 4000 ATK, one turn is more than enough time for Obelisk to leave its mark on the Duel or finish off your opponent.
Cards like “Reasoning” and “Monster Gate” can pull Obelisk right out of the Deck and Special Summon it to the field. Since Obelisk is in an elite group of Level 10 monsters, there’s a very slim chance that your opponent will call its level right with “Reasoning.”
Once Obelisk hits the field you can do one of two things with it: attack or activate its effect.
“Obelisk the Tormentor” has a unique power that lets you Tribute 2 monsters to destroy all of your opponent’s monsters. You can even Tribute Obelisk itself with this effect after you Special Summon it. That’s a great way to put Obelisk to use before it’s sent to the Graveyard during your End Phase. You can evenTribute Sheep Tokens that were Special Summoned from “Scapegoat” to activate Obelisk’s effect.
