Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME Legendary Collection: Best of the Booster Packs!
In addition to 6 legendary cards in every Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME Legendary Collection, each one also comes with 6 different packs. Each of these 6 sets was created when the game was still young, but they still include some extraordinary cards that remain powerful to this day.
1.) Legend of Blue-Eyes White Dragon
Legend of Blue-Eyes White Dragon was the first set ever created. It’s the set that started it all when it was released in 2002. It contains some of the most popular cards ever made, including all of the pieces of Exodia. You can even pull a second copy of the Blue-Eyes White Dragon, the Dark Magician, or Red-Eyes B. Dragon to go with the one in your Legendary Collection.
Legend of Blue-Eyes White Dragon also brought us some of the strongest Spell Cards ever created. Raigeki wipes out your opponent’s field and Pot of Greed lets you draw 2 cards without a cost. Both of these Spell Cards are Forbidden, but there are 2 other powerful Spell Cards in the set that were recently Limited. If you want a Super Rare Dark Hole or an Ultra Rare Monster Reborn, here’s your chance to get it. They were first released in Legend of Blue-Eyes White Dragon packs and have become extremely difficult to find. Now, more than 8 years after their initial release, you can start pulling them in packs once again.
2.) Metal Raiders
Metal Raiders was the second set ever created. Although Metal Raiders is best known for being the first set you can get the Mirror Force Trap Card in, there are lots of other classic cards in it too. Metal Raiders contained the Secret Rare Gate Guardian, whose Attack Points were higher than any other monster of its time. Metal Raiders also introduced Kuriboh to the TCG. Kuriboh, who has only 300 ATK, is known for being one of the weakest monsters in the game.
At the time of its original release, Time Wizard was another popular card in Metal Raiders. Time Wizard can wipe out the opponent’s field with the flip of a coin! There are also other powerful cards in Metal Raiders that you can use in a Duel. Solemn Judgment, for example, was one of the first Counter Trap Cards ever created, and found its way onto the Limited List several years after its release. Sangan continues to be played in almost ever Deck.
Metal Raiders also contains its fair share of cards that are currently Forbidden. The Flip-Effect Monster, Magician of Faith, which has the power to bring back any Spell Card from the Graveyard, is no longer allowed in Duels. Neither is Witch of the Black Forest, who has the power to add any monster with 1500 DEF or less from your Deck to your hand when she’s sent to the Graveyard. The Spell Card, Change of Heart, which was frequently retrieved with Magician of Faith, is also Forbidden. Change of Heart allows you to take control of any of your opponent’s monsters for the turn! It’s like Brain Control, another Forbidden Card, but it also lets you take control of face-down monsters, and without the cost of 800 LP! Heavy Storm, which recently found its place on the Forbidden List, was also first available in Metal Raiders.
3.) Spell Ruler
Spell Ruler, the third set ever created, contained a whole slew of fun cards, including Pegasus’s Toon Monsters! Toon World, Toon Blue-Eyes White Dragon and Toon Summoned Skull were first available in this set. Spell Ruler also contained Pegasus’s Relinquished, one of the best Ritual Monsters ever created.
Many of the cards released in Spell Ruler also showed up in tournaments. These cards included Axe of Despair, Spellbinding Circle, Megamorph, Mystical Space Typhoon, Messenger of Peace, and Mystic Tomato. But none of them showed up more than the many cards that are now Forbidden.
Confiscation, The Forceful Sentry and Delinquent Duo are 3 of the best Forbidden Cards from Spell Ruler. They let you discard cards from your opponent’s hand, limiting his plays. Painful Choice, which was also first released in Spell Ruler, is Forbidden as well. Painful Choice is a Spell Card that lets you send 4 cards from your Deck to your Graveyard and add 1 card from your Deck to your hand. Snatch Steal, an Equip Spell Card that lets a Duelist take control of an opponent’s monster, was also released in Spell Ruler and later Forbidden due to its awesome power.
Cyber Jar is the only Forbidden Flip-Effect monster in the set. Cyber Jar wipes out the field and throws a bunch of new monsters into play. Like many Forbidden Cards, Cyber Jar can turn a Duel around in the blink of an eye.
4.) Pharaoh’s Servant
Pharaoh’s Servant, the fourth set ever released, is most famous for its Secret Rare Cards, Jinzo and Imperial Order. Since Jinzo can negate Trap Cards and Imperial Order can negate Spell Cards, they were both popular cards used to pin down the opponent’s plays. Both of them became Limited shortly after their release. Now, Jinzo is Unlimited, but Imperial Order is Forbidden.
Other Forbidden Cards in Pharaoh’s Servant are Thousand-Eyes Restrict, which absorbs monsters and prevents all other monsters from attacking, Premature Burial, which lets you revive a monster from your Graveyard, and Time Seal, which is a Trap Card that forces your opponent to skip a Draw Phase.
Although all of these Forbidden Cards were popular on the tournament scene at one point or another, Pharaoh’s Servant also had a lot of popular tournament-level cards that are still legal to use. These cards include Call of the Haunted, Nobleman of Crossout and Goblin Attack Force – a Level 4 monster with a whopping 2300 ATK!
5.) Dark Crisis
Dark Crisis was first released in December of 2003. It contained one of the most popular Trap Cards used throughout first several years of the game: Sakuretsu Armor. Until Dimensional Prison was released, Sakuretsu Armor found its way into almost every Deck.
Dark Crisis also brought us Vampire Lord, a 2000 ATK monster that Special Summons itself when it’s destroyed by an opponent’s card effect. That sort of protection was extremely rare at the time, so Vampire Lord found its way into lots of tournament-level Decks. Exodia Necross was another popular card in Dark Crisis, although it didn’t find its way into as many competitive Decks as Vampire Lord did.
Two cards in Dark Crisis were Forbidden after their release: Tsukuyomi and Butterfly Dagger – Elma. Tsukuyomi had the ability to flip a monster face-down every turn, which allowed a Duelist to recycle the effects of his Flip-Effect monsters like Magician of Faith. Butterfly Dagger – Elma, on the other hand, was the base for an impressive combo involving Gearfried the Iron Knight (a monster from Pharaoh’s Servant that destroys all Equip Spell Cards attached to it). Butterfly Dagger – Elma returns to your hand every time it’s destroyed while it’s equipped to a monster. That means you can equip it to Gearfried any number of times in a single turn, and keep bringing it back to your hand! This lets you put as many Spell Counters as you want on cards like Royal Magical Library or Magical Marionette, which gain a Spell Counter every time a Spell Card is activated.
There were other competitive cards in Dark Crisis too! D.D. Warrior Lady, for example, was instantly recognized as an awesome card when Dark Crisis was released, but it wasn’t until Invasion of Chaos that so many Duelists began packing 3 copies of this LIGHT monster in their Decks.
6.) Invasion of Chaos
Invasion of Chaos was released right after Dark Crisis. It revolutionized the way the game was played. Attributes were never as important as they were after Invasion of Chaos was released. Being DARK or LIGHT became an important asset for any monster card, because it meant that it could be used with the powerful Chaos Monsters released in Invasion of Chaos.
Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning and Chaos Emperor Dragon – Envoy of the End are 2 of the most powerful monsters ever created, and both of them can be found in packs of Invasion of Chaos. They each have 3000 ATK and can be Special Summoned by removing a DARK and a LIGHT monster from your Graveyard. Black Luster Soldier can attack twice or remove a monster from the game every turn. Chaos Emperor Dragon has the power to send every card on the field and in both players’ hands to the Graveyard, while damaging the opponent. Both of these cards are Forbidden for their incredible power.
Chaos Sorcerer, on the other hand, has recently become Semi-Limited. Chaos Sorcerer only has 2300 ATK and can only remove face-up monsters from the game with its effect. Like Black Luster Soldier and Chaos Emperor Dragon, Chaos Sorcerer was first released in Invasion of Chaos and can be Special Summoned from your hand by removing a DARK and a LIGHT monster from your Graveyard. Chaos Sorcerer remains in the Advanced Format as the biggest lingering influence of the Chaos Monsters.
Dark Magician of Chaos was another powerful monster from Invasion of Chaos that has been Forbidden since its release. Dark Magician of Chaos has an incredible 2800 ATK and removes from the game every monster it destroys in battle. Best of all, Dark Magician of Chaos lets you bring a Spell Card from your Graveyard to your hand whenever it’s Summoned. Duelists sometimes used Dimension Fusion, a Forbidden Card from Invasion of Chaos that Special Summoned all removed-from-play monsters to the field, to bring back Dark Magician of Chaos and activate its effect once again.
But Invasion of Chaos is about more than just the Chaos monsters. It also had Berserk Gorilla, the first 2000 ATK Level 4 monster that was played in tournament-level Decks. In addition, Invasion of Chaos brought us the release of Smashing Ground, one of the most popular monster destruction Spell Cards in the game, and Compulsory Evacuation Device, a Trap Card that’s frequently used to control the opponent’s field.
The Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME Legendary Collection contains all of the most popular cards from the beginning of the game. Many of them are still viable today. Now is your chance to relive the excitement of pulling your favorite cards from the oldest packs.
