The Prohibitive Psi-Blocker!
During a Duel, there’s always a card that you’re hoping your opponent doesn’t have. It may be the same card on every turn, or vary depending on the situation. Psi-Blocker adapts to any circumstance. Psi-Blocker lets you name a card, and forbids the use of that card and any of its effects until the end of your opponent’s next turn. This clutters your opponent’s hand and field with unusable cards, while giving you the security of making plays without fear. Since Psi-Blocker lets you choose a different card to forbid each turn, you can pick a new card to shut your opponent out of the Duel as soon as your position changes.
Psi-Blocker is a Level 4 Psychic-Type monster. Since it only has 1200 ATK, your opponent won’t be able to remove it from the game with Bottomless Trap Hole, and will need to resort to other ways of getting it off of the field. But with Psi-Blocker limiting the cards your opponent can use, that may be a challenge!
Psi-Blocker is a natural fit in any Deck that runs an abundance of defensive Spell and Trap Cards. With so many Duelists using Solemn Warning, Dimensional Prison, Book of Moon, and other cards that can protect it, Psi-Blocker can be used effectively in just about every Deck. Psi-Blocker is especially useful in Gadget Decks. Gadget Decks are vulnerable to Cyber Dragon, which Psi-Blocker can stop your opponent from Summoning. Since Gadget Duelists are always ready to protect their weakest monsters, they can also make sure Psi-Blocker sticks around so that they get the most out of its effect.
Psi-Blocker is especially potent when used in multiples. If you can prevent your opponent from using all of his best cards, he won’t have anything left to turn the Duel around. The Duel will be tough for your X-Saber opponent if he can’t use his XX-Saber Emmersblade, XX-Saber Fulhelmknight, or XX-Saber Boggart Knight.
Your opponent will frequently use a card that reveals a card that’s in his hand. If your opponent shows you an X-Saber he searches for with the effect of XX-Saber Darksoul or a Machina he grabs from his Deck with the effect of Machina Gearframe, you’ll know exactly which card to name with the effect of your Psi-Blocker. But even if your opponent’s Deck doesn’t play any cards that directly tell you what’s in his hand, there are other ways to figure out which cards he has. You can analyze his past plays to determine his cards, or use cards like Trap Dustshoot, Mind Crush, and Psychic Nightmare to take a peek at his hand.
One of Psi-Blocker’s best qualities is its flexibility. The turn you Summon it to the field, you can throw off a lot of your opponent’s plays.
Do you think your opponent has a Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter face-down? Summon Psi-Blocker to the field and name Ryko with its effect before attacking that Set monster.
Are you afraid of Gorz the Emissary of Darkness? Name it with Psi-Blocker before attacking directly.
Is your opponent counting on Dark Hole to clear your field on his next turn? Prevent it from happening by choosing Dark Hole with Psi-Blocker.
Will Mirror Force destroy all of your monsters if you declare an attack? It won’t if you pick it with Psi-Blocker’s effect before attacking.
The uses for Psi-Blocker are endless. There are thousands of cards in the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG and Psi-Blocker can stop your opponent from using any one of them. Psi-Blocker is a lot like the Continuous Spell Card from Pharaoh’s Servant, Prohibition, which allows a Duelist to name a card and prevents that card from being used. But Psi-Blocker’s 1200 ATK, ability to change the named card each turn, and the fact that its effect does not exclude cards already on the field makes it better-suited for tournament-level Main Decks, and more useful while developing tactics.
You can get your hands on Psi-Blocker starting at the Starstrike Blast Sneak Peek on November 6th and 7th!
