Gagaga Magician

August 15th, 2011

There are several Xyz Monsters in Generation Force that you’ll want to use in your Extra Deck, but they aren’t all the same Rank! Just like with Synchro Monsters, you need the right monsters with the right Levels on the field if you want to Summon them. Gagaga Magician’s here now to make sure you have any Level you need, and can be used in several unique ways!

What does Gagaga Magician do?

Gagaga Magician is a DARK Spellcaster-Type monster with 1500 ATK. It starts out at Level 4 but can be changed to any Level from 1 to 8 and will stay that way till the end of the turn! If you’ve already got another monster on the field you can tweak Gagaga Magician’s Level to match that monster and Xyz Summon a monster from your Extra Deck! If you need to Summon a Rank 3 Xyz Monster like Number 17: Leviathan Dragon or Leviair the Sea Dragon then all you need is Gagaga Magician and a Level 3 monster. If you already control a Level 5 monster Gagaga Magician will let you Summon Tiras, Keeper of Genesis or Adreus, Keeper of Armageddon!

What Decks should I use Gagaga Magician in?

If you want to Summon a lot of different Xyz Monsters in one Duel, you’ll definitely want multiple copies of Gagaga Magician in your Deck. Rank 3 and Rank 4 Xyz Monsters are already easy to Summon, but if you combine Cyber Dragon with Gagaga Magician you can play Rank 5 Xyz Monsters as well! You can also use Gravity Bind and Level Limit – Area B to protect yourself from attack while still being able attack because Xyz Monsters don’t have Levels and aren’t affected by them.

Gagaga Magician is also quite handy in Spellcaster Decks and makes it easier than ever before to Summon Sorcerer of Dark Magic! Sorcerer of Dark Magic can only be Summoned by Tributing 2 Level 6 or higher Spellcaster-Type monsters, and with Gagaga Magician you don’t have to use many cards to get the right monsters on the field. One quick combo you can use is to Special Summon Dark Red Enchanter from your Deck with Magician’s Circle, and then Tribute the 2 monsters for your 3200 ATK sorcerer. You can also Summon Chaos Sorcerer, banish a monster and follow up with Gagaga Magician to Summon Sorcerer of Dark Magic! If you’re playing a Dark Magician Deck you’ve got Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl to use as the other monster for Sorcerer of Dark Magic as well.

Spellcaster Decks also have a few other tricks up their sleeve! If you change Gagaga Magician’s Level to 7 or 8 you can pay 1000 Life Points to activate Diffusion Wave-Motion. Gagaga Magician will be the only monster that can attack, but it can attack every monster your opponent controls, and negate the effects of any it destroys! That means no Fluff Tokens from Dandylion, no cards destroyed by Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter and no free monster from Sangan!  Any Deck that uses Gagaga Magician can also make use of Advance Draw to draw 2 cards after you change Gagaga Magician’s Level to 8.

Gagaga Magician is a versatile card that gives Spellcaster and Xyz-based Decks a huge boost, and can be combined with several other interesting cards as well. If you got one from the Sneak Peek, think about how it might help you. If you didn’t, you have another chance when Generation Force is released on August 16th!
