Royal Prison: Enemy of the Status Quo
For many Decks, what’s in your Graveyard is just as important as what cards you have in your hand. Many of today’s top Decks are able to use their monsters again and again, setting up impressive Synchro or Xyz Summon combos to win them their Duels. If you need a little more help in taking these sorts of Decks down there’s a Trap Card in Order of Chaos that you’ll certainly want to get your hands on.
Royal Prison is a Continuous Trap Card with one simple yet powerful line of text: “Monsters cannot be Special Summoned from the Graveyard.” That means no Grapha, no Monster Reborn and no to a lot of other things as well. With many Decks having quite a few ways to Summon monsters from the Graveyard, Royal Prison should be an instant addition to your Side Deck. Here’s how it tackles a few specific Decks and where it can be useful.
Synchrocentric Decks have been a top table contender for a long time, all because of the monsters Duelists can Summon for free from the Graveyard. Spore and Glow-Up Bulb can Special Summon themselves with their own effects, and Debris Dragon can bring back Dandylion or any other low ATK monster to set up key combos with. Some variants even use Junk Synchron to revive Doppelwarrior. Royal Prison stops all of this, and with no way to Synchro Summon, the Deck collapses and is easy to beat.
Dark World Decks are incredibly powerful, though most of their key plays revolve around Summoning Grapha and pals for free from the Graveyard. Whenever Goldd, Wu-Lord of Dark World and Sillva, Warlord of Dark World are discarded by a card effect, they’re instantly revived and your opponent has free monsters to attack with. Whenever any Dark World monster is on the field, your opponent can return it to their hand to Summon Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World directly from the Graveyard. Once again, Royal Prison prevents your opponent from doing any of this!
Wind-Ups are capable of putting together some really impressive combos. Wind-Up Rat can Special Summon any Wind-Up monster from your Graveyard, and if you choose another Level 3 monster, you can Xyz Summon Rank 3 monsters like Wind-Up Zenmaines and Wind-Up Carrier Zenmaity. When Zenmaity and Rat are combined with Wind-Up Hunter, the Deck kicks into high gear with a devastating loop!
If you Xyz Summon Zenmaity and detach Hunter, you can Special Summon Rat from your Deck. Rat then revives Hunter with its effect and Hunter Tributes Zenmaity to send a random card from the opponent’s hand. After this, Rat and Hunter combine to Summon another Zenmaity, which detaches Hunter to Summon another Rat from the Deck, and the sequence continues. The key to all of this is that the Wind-Up Rats keep reviving Wind-Up Hunter in order to keep the combo going, and that’s exactly what Royal Prison stops.
Royal Prison is easily one of the most useful Trap Cards we’ve seen in a long time, and if you haven’t added them to your Side Deck yet you can only find them in Order of Chaos!
