Void Ogre Dragon
The Premium Collection celebrates the 10 year history of the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG, with cards of every kind! From Fusion Monsters to Xyz Monsters and everything in between there’s something in there for everybody. One of the cards you can pick up is the Synchro Monster we’re going to look at today, which can be quite useful in the right Deck.

No hand, no problem.
Void Ogre Dragon is a Level 8 DARK Synchro Monster with a fearsome 3000 ATK and DEF, and you Summon it by combing 1 DARK Tuner monster with any non-Tuner monsters you control. Examples of useful Tuners DARK you can use are the Level 2 Plaguespreader Zombie, Krebons, Pain Painter and Blackwing – Blizzard the Far North, and the Level 3 Blackwing – Gale the Whirlwind, Genex Ally Birdman and Junk Synchron. Many of these are easy to fit into most Decks and could give you access to Void Ogre Dragon.

Recipe for the Void
One Deck that’ll obviously make use of Void Ogre Dragon is Infernity, as Void Ogre’s effect can only activate when you have no cards in your hand, something that Infernity Duelists aim to do all the time! Infernity Decks can easily gain free cards through the effects of Infernity Necromancer, Infernity Archfiend and Infernity Mirage, which can combo with Tuner Monsters Infernity Beetle and Infernity Avenger to Summon a wide variety of Synchro Monsters. Infernities also make use of Hundred Eyes Dragon and Infernity Doom Dragon, and with Void Ogre Dragon added to the mix you’ve got several Level 8 Synchro options available. The Infernity Deck has been around for almost 2 years now, so take a look back in our archives if you want to learn more about it.
Void Ogre Dragon’s effect should look familiar to anybody that’s come up against Six Samurai in the past year, as it’s very similar to that Decks’ key card Legendary Six Samurai – Shi En. Once per turn, if your opponent activates a Spell or Trap Card while you have no cards in your hand, Void Ogre Dragon can negate and destroy it for free. This is a Quick Effect, so you can use it during your opponent’s turn as well. Every Deck has about 5 or 6 key Spell/Trap Cards that it uses to wither win Duels or make comebacks, and the longer Void Ogre Dragon’s out on the field, the less effective those cards become. One example could be if your opponent has Mirror Force Set. Normally your opponent will hold onto this card until you have several monsters ready to attack, as getting rid of several cards at once is a sure-fire way to win a Duel, but Void Ogre Dragon turns the tables in your favour! Shutting down cards like Monster Reborn, Dark Hole and Heavy Storm is always a plus too.

Get what you pay for!
One thing to bear in mind when playing Void Ogre Dragon is that you need to have no cards in your hand in order to negate your opponent’s cards. If you’re playing Infernities then you’ll be doing this anyway, but what about other Decks? If you’ve got plenty of Spell and Trap Cards you can Set them all to make sure that you can play Void Ogre Dragon, and in return your Synchro Monster will be able to negate the Heavy Storm that would otherwise destroy them all. If your Deck likes to send its monsters to the Graveyard you may want to try out cards that can help empty your hand, like Divine Wrath and Phoenix Wing Wind Blast. Even if you’re unable to negate cards for a turn though your opponent isn’t safe yet, as Void Ogre Dragon’s 3000 ATK can take down pretty much anything in battle!
Void Ogre Dragon is one of the many cool cards you can pick up in the Premium Collection, and if you like your Level 8 Synchro Monsters it’s certainly a card worth adding to your Extra Deck, so feel free to give it a go!
