GAOV Preview: The Missing Links

Evol Decks are focused around using Reptile-type Evoltiles, to summon Dinosaur-type Evolsaurs, and use them to Xyz Summon the Dragon-Type Evolzars. Galactic Overlord has many new cards for Evol Decks, which allow them to pull off even more interesting and awesome combos. Here are some of the new Evol cards you can find in Galactic Overlord, including the brand new World Premiere card, Evoltile Elginero!

First up, a tricky new monster called Evoltile Lagosucho! Lagosucho lets you send an Evolsaur to the Graveyard when it’s Normal Summoned, and it Special Summons an Evoltile from your Deck when it’s flipped face-up. Both of these effects are useful, and it’s definitely worth considering in any Evol Deck.

Laggy

Evoltile Lagosucho allows you to make up for times when you have Evo-Force in your hand, without Evoltile Najasho, the monster you normally want to Tribute with Evo-Force. And it can do it in two ways.

  1. After sending any Level 4 Evolsaur to the Graveyard with Lagosucho, you can use Evo-Force on it, summon Evolsaur Vulcano, and use Vulcano’s effect to Summon the Evolsaur from your Graveyard. Then you can Xyz Summon Evolzar Laggia or Evolzar Dolkka!
  2. Lagosucho’s other effect lets you summon an Evoltile from your Deck when he’s flipped face-up. A prime target is Evoltile Najasho, since you can use Enemy Controller during the Battle Phase to Tribute it, or use Evo-Force on the next turn.

Either way, Evoltile Lagosucho helps to make your plays more consistent, by seeking out the exact monster you need.

Evolsaur Darwino is a Level 5 Dinosaur that increases the Level of any monster on the field by up to 2 when you Summon it with an Evolsaur. A really simple combo to do with this monster is to flip up your Evoltile Westlo, and Special Summon this card from the Deck. Then, you can boost Westlo to Level 5, and Xyz Summon a Rank 5 monster, like Tiras, Keeper of Genesis! Rank 5 Xyz Monsters were practically impossible to play in an Evol Deck, but thanks to Darwino, it’s now a lot easier than before.

DarwinApproved

In addition, since Darwino can change ANY monster’s level, it can be used defensively, too. Let’s say your Evoltile Westlo is flipped up in battle, while your opponent has 2 Level 4 monsters. The reason why they haven’t Xyz Summoned yet is probably because they want to do more damage to your Life Points fisrt, then Xyz Summon during Main Phase 2. Darwino can disrupt that play completely, by blocking the opponent from attacking with its bulky 2200 ATK body, and you can make one of their monsters Level 6, meaning that they can’t Xyz Summon anymore! Evolsaur Darwino is a tricky card, and it’ll be interesting to see the combos that different people come up with using it.

That’s all cool, but common problems that Evol Decks face include drawing too many Evolsaurs but not enough Evoltiles, running out of cards to work with, and having cards that Tribute monsters but nothing worth Tributing. All of these can be troublesome, because you need to pull off multiple card combos (that depend on not drawing certain monsters) if you want to play your best monsters, but you don’t want to run out of cards right away. So, what’s the solution?

Elgy

Like Evoltile Najasho, Evoltile Elginero’s effect activates when it’s Tributed, but instead of Summoning another Evolsaur, it lets you fix your hand instead. First, you get to draw a card. Then, you can return a Dinosaur in your hand to your Deck. If you returned a Dinosaur to your Deck, you then get to add an Evoltile from your Deck to your hand!

This allows you to return Evolsaurs that you’ve drawn to the Deck, so that you can use your Evoltiles to Summon them. If you Tribute Elginero with Evo-Force, the best monster to summon would be Vulcano, since Elginero doesn’t give you as powerful a field as Najasho does. That way, you can still play an Evolzar after Evo-Force resolves, putting your opponent in a tough position. Elginero is a great monster to search from your Deck with Evolsaur Cerato or Evo-Diversity (also coming in Galactic Overlord) or Summon with Lagosucho, and the combos you can pull off with Evo-Force and Elginero help set up your hand for the turns to come.

The Evols have been waiting for millions of years for their comeback, and now they’re ready to unleash their full potential. If you’re up against the Evols, be wary – they’re an “Evo”-force to be reckoned with!
