Don’t Underestimate These Spells and Traps in Sealed Play!

July 17th, 2012

Never underestimate the power of a card. If you do, an opponent may surprise you by showing you what it can do, or you might miss out on a chance to exploit that card’s power. Here are 5 Spell and Trap Cards from Battle Pack: Epic Dawn that you won’t want to underestimate in Sealed Play!

1.)    Burden of the Mighty

Birden

Burden of the Mighty shaves off a few hundred Attack Points from each of your opponent’s monsters. This may not look like much at first, but those few Attack Points can make a huge difference.

The difference between winning a battle and losing a battle can be as little as 100 Attack Points. Burden of the Mighty weakens all of an opponent’s monsters by 100 Attack Points for each of its Levels. That’ll make it overwhelmingly tougher for opponents’ monsters to win battles as long as Burden of the Mighty is on the field. With all opposing Attack Position monsters (except Xyz Monsters) weakened, you can win battles with monsters that would normally lose them. This is a good way to make use of monsters like Amazoness Trainee and Amazoness Sage.

2.)    Prideful Roar

TheObeliskKiller

Not a lot of cards will help the weakest monsters take down the strongest ones in battle, but Prideful Roar will. Unlike most Spell or Trap Cards that modify ATK by changing a monster’s ATK by a set number, Prideful Roar always changes your monster’s points by giving it enough ATK to take down your opponent’s monster. You’ll have to pay some Life Points, but to watch your Fox Fire take down Obelisk the Tormentor, it’s definitely worth it.

3.)    Liberty at Last!

StickItToTheMan

Liberty at Last! is the perfect Trap to spring when your monster is destroyed in battle. It sends two face-up monsters back to the Deck, no matter how strong they are. It can even send Xyz Monsters back to the Extra Deck. Some Duelists underestimate Liberty at Last! because you can only activate it if there are 2 face-up monsters to target. But the power to get rid of 2 monsters is Duel-changing, and an unwary Duelist who falls victim to Liberty at Last! is at a huge disadvantage. The best way to avoid Liberty at Last! is to trade in your pair of smaller attackers for an Xyz Monster or Level 7+ monster. That way your opponent will have to target one of his own monsters if he wants to use the Trap.

4.)    Needle Ceiling

CyberJarFriend

Never underestimate a card that can destroy all of a Duelist’s monsters. Needle Ceiling has the power to do that. As long as there are 4 monsters on the field, Needle Ceiling can wipe them all out.

Needle Ceiling is especially scary to Duel against because it’ll sometimes work as a one-sided Dark Hole, also known as Raigeki or Mirror Force. Face-down monsters are safe from Needle Ceiling, but still count toward the 4 monsters that need to be on the field in order to activate it. A Duelist with Needle Ceiling can Set monsters in preparation for a devastating activation, and sometimes other cards can fulfill all the requirements for you.

5.)    Darkworld Shackles

ShackleUp

Darkworld Shackles is a lot better than it might look at first glance. It won’t destroy the monster that it’s equipped to, but sometimes it’ll do something even better!

The monster equipped with Darkworld Shackles is rendered nearly useless. It can’t attack, and its ATK and DEF drop to 100. This steep drop in Attack Points can clear the way for an attack that does a lot of damage! Plus, when you equip Darkworld Shackles to an opponent’s monster, your opponent will lose an extra 500 Life Points during each of your turns.

There’s a lot of power packed into Darkworld Shackles, and it’s a bigger game-changer than you might think.

These are just a few of the Spell and Trap Cards that you shouldn’t underestimate in Battle Pack Sealed. Try out some Sealed Play Duels and see which other Spells and Traps are stronger than they look!
