A haunted mine filled with gold? Who better to “investigate” than the Dark Scorpions! Don Zaloog and his team have returned, and they’re eager to get their hands on the treasure found in Gold Series: Haunted Mine.

Every time Don Zaloog or one of his Dark Scorpion brethren deal battle damage, they’ll activate one of two powerful effects. Their ATK isn’t extremely high, so try using cards like Shrink or Forbidden Lance to help them win battles. All of the Scorpions are DARK too, so they’ll work with cards like Allure of Darkness and Dark Eruption.

He’s the leader of the bunch, and long-time Duelists know him well. As the Dark Scorpion commander, Don Zaloog is a dueling icon. He already got the Gold Rare treatment in the original Gold Series, and now he returns with the whole team! If Don Zaloog hits your opponent, he can take away a card from their hand! He’s also able to send 2 cards from your opponent’s Deck to the Graveyard, something you might want to do if they have nothing to discard. With enough attacks, Don and his Dark Scorpions will either steal away all of your opponent’s Life Points, or all the cards they need to stay in the game!

Happier than you about Trap Dustshoot being Forbidden

The Don’s go-to guy is Dark Scorpion – Cliff the Trap Remover. He leads the charge, clearing away any troublesome Spells or Traps that would stop the rest of the team. He’s also able to send 2 cards from your opponent’s Deck to their Graveyard, just like Don Zaloog.

Dark Scorpion – Chick the Yellow is the Dark Scorpions’ scout. He can return any card to the owner’s hand. That lets you either get an opposing card out of your way, or reuse one of your own! Chick’s second ability is to look at the top card of your opponent’s Deck. Then you get to put that card on the top or bottom of their Deck. You could use this ability to manipulate their next move, or you can combo it with Don Zaloog’s or Cliff’s abilities to send the top cards of their Deck to the Graveyard!

Dark Scorpion – Gorg the Strong certainly lives up to his name. He’s the only Dark Scorpion that’s Level 5, but that’s because his effect is so powerful. If Gorg deals damage, he’ll be sending any opposing monster right to the top of the Deck! From there, Don Zaloog, Cliff, or Chick can get rid of it; but if it’s not a very helpful monster, you can just let your opponent draw it again too! Gorg is also able to send the top card of their Deck to the Graveyard if there are no monsters to whack back to the Deck.

Dark Scorpion – Meanae the Thorn is here to rally the troops! Her abilities let her take any Dark Scorpion from your Deck or Graveyard and add it to your hand. With her nice 1800 DEF, you can Set her face-down and let your opponent attack, inflicting damage without risking her destruction. Meanae is the best way to group your Scorpions together for a combo attack!

The quickest way to get all of the Dark Scorpions on the field is to first get them in your hand with Meanae’s effect. Then, you can Summon Don Zaloog and activate Mustering of the Dark Scorpions! Because you control the Don, it lets you Special Summon one of each other Dark Scorpion from your hand. Send in all of the troops  to rob your opponent’s hand, Deck, and field!
