Advance Zone

August 2nd, 2012

High level monsters are among the most powerful cards in the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME. They come packing incredible effects or huge ATK and DEF, but there has always been one thing to keep them in check: To Normal Summon high level monsters, you’ll need to Tribute one or more of your other monsters. Since you’re giving up another card to play these big monsters, it can be tough to capitalize on them – but no longer, thanks to Advance Zone!

AZone

Advance Zone is a Continuous Spell with three effects that can activate at your End Phase, depending on how many monsters you Tributed for Tribute Summons this turn. These effects will stack on top of each other, so the more monsters you Tribute, the more effects you’ll get to activate!

IdentityThief

If you Tributed one monster for Tribute Summons, at your End Phase Advance Zone will let you target any Set card your opponent controls and destroy it! The Monarch monsters have been mainstays of Dueling for years, and are some of the best monsters to use with Advance Zone. You can Tribute Summon your Monarch like Caius the Shadow Monarch or Thestalos the Firestorm Monarch to take out an opposing card, then you’ll destroy any other Set card they have at the End Phase! You could even use Soul Exchange to Tribute an opponent’s monster, then let Advance Zone destroy a card to make up for your skipped Battle Phase!

You could further this simple combo with Illusory Snatcher, which Special Summons itself from your hand whenever you Tribute Summon a monster. Then, Illusory Snatcher looks at the monster you Tribute Summoned and copies its Level, Type, and Attribute. This is a great way to throw out a ton of extra ATK on the field or to match up monsters for an Xyz Summon!

Photon

If you Tributed two monsters during your turn, Advance Zone will still let you destroy a Set card, but you’ll also get to draw a card! Photon Caesar is a great choice to pull this off, since it will Special Summon another copy of itself when you Tribute Summon it. By simply playing Photon Caesar along with Advance Zone, you’ll be getting another Caesar, a free draw, and you’ll destroy a Set card! Then you can use your two Caesars for a Rank 8 Xyz Summon, or use them to Special Summon Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon! Photon Sanctuary will help a lot with this strategy, since you can play your high level Photons with no previous setup!

Represent

There are a select few monsters that are so powerful, they don’t adhere to the normal rules – these monsters require three Tributes to be Tribute Summoned! If you manage to play any of these powerful monsters, Advance Zone will give you both of its first two effects, and you’ll also get to add any monster from your Graveyard to your hand!

And what better choice to gain all three of Advance Zone’s effects than the Egyptian God cards! Obelisk the Tormentor, The Winged Dragon of Ra, and Slifer the Sky Dragon all have incredibly powerful effects. Each is capable of winning a Duel by themselves, but if that doesn’t pan out, Advance Zone will use all three of its effects to secure your victory! Silfer is especially good with Advance Zone because it’ll add two more cards to your hand in the End Phase which adds 2000 ATK and DEF to Slifer!

With three killer effects that build on each other, Advance Zone makes your Tribute Summons pay for themselves! If you’ve got a Deck that Tribute Summons often, be sure to check it out!
