Return of the Duelist is fast approaching, so here’s a first look at one of the new Decks you’ll be able to build this August: Geargia! The Geargia cards are all based around teamwork and Xyz Summoning, but you can also use them with your favourite Machine monsters from throughout the history of Dueling. Just like how you can use Prophecy monsters and Spellbooks in all kinds of Spellcaster Decks, you can use the Geargia and their Xyz Monster, Gear Gigant X, in any kind of Machine Deck!

Meet the Geargia.

There are a total of 5 “Geargia” monsters, 4 from Return of the Duelist and 1 you may remember from Generation Force last year. There’s also their ace monster Gear Gigant X, a Rank 4 Xyz Monster that’s not a Geargia, but is friend to all Machines. All of the Geargia monsters are EARTH, Machine-Types can Special Summon more Geargia monsters, or add them to your hand for free.

Geargiano’s a Level 3 monster with 500 ATK. You can Tribute it to Special Summon any Level 4 Machine-Type monster from your Graveyard (whose effects are negated). This is great for when you have a Level 4 on the field already, and need another to Xyz Summon Gear Gigant X.

Geargiano Mk-II is the new model. When it’s Normal or Flip Summoned, you can Special Summon a Geargia monster from your hand or Graveyard in Defense Position. It’s also a Level 3 monster, so already with these 2 monsters your Deck has access to Rank 4 and Rank 3 Xyz Monsters!

Geargiarmor can switch to face-down Defense Position, which is handy as it has 1900 DEF. When it’s flipped face-up however, you can add any other Geargia monster from your Deck to your hand. That makes it a great card to Set at the start of a Duel, letting you get your combo pieces early.

Geargiarsenal gains 200 ATK for every Geargia monster you control (including itself). You can Tribute it to Special Summon any other Geargia monster from your Deck in Defense Position.

Geargiaccelerator can be Special Summoned from your hand when you control another Geargia monster. When it’s sent to the Graveyard you can then add any other Geargia monster from your Graveyard to your hand.

Putting them together.

Geargiano and Geargiano Mk-II are your main Rank 3 or 4 Summoning combo. You can Tribute Geargiano to Summon a Level 4, Normal Summon Mk-II and then revive the original. From there you can either Xyz Summon a Rank 3, or Tribute Geargiano again to Summon another Level 4 monster and Xyz Summon Gear Gigant X. 3 copies of each monster would be ideal.

Geargiarsenal can set up combos too. Tribute it to Special Summon Geargiarmor from your Deck, and use that monster’s effect to flip it face-down. Next turn you Flip Summon it, add Geargiaccelerator to your hand and Special Summon it with its effect, giving you 2 Level 4 monsters to Xyz Summon with.

There’s lots of little combos like these that you can put together, and that’s before you even get to Gear Gigant X.

Adding more Machines.

Gear Gigant X is what really makes the Deck shine. This Rank 4 Xyz Monster can be Summoned by combining 2 Level 4 Machine-Types, which we already know is easy for the Deck to do. Once per turn you can detach an Xyz Material from Gear Gigant X to add any Level 4 or lower Machine-Type monster from your Deck or Graveyard to your hand. You can get any of the Geargia monsters we’ve already looked at but what about other Machine-Types?

Machina Gearframe and Machina Fortress would both be great additions to your Geargia Deck. Gear Gigant X can add Gearframe to your hand, and when you Summon it that’ll get you Machina Fortress. All you need then is 1 more Machine-Type monster in your hand and you can Summon it right away. You could even grab classic Machines like Cyber Phoenix and Reflect Bounder. Phoenix can be really helpful because it prevents Spells and Traps from targeting your Machines, and lets you draw if it gets destroyed in battle.

Gear Gigant X has another effect as well. Whenever it leaves the field you can Special Summon a Level 3 or lower Geargia monster from your Graveyard. If you Summon Geargiano you can then Tribute it right away to Summon a Level 4, and then if you have Geargiaccelerator in your hand you could Special Summon it before Xyz Summoning another Gear Gigant X!

Geargia monsters can make for a really interesting Deck which can make many cool plays. You can start picking up copies of Geargiano and the Machina monsters right away, and the remaining cards will be available in Return of the Duelist!
