Time Out or Out of Time?
Ancient peoples were a mysterious bunch. When they weren’t busy living in cities of gold or making end-of-times calendars, they were creating some of the most advanced pieces of technology the world has ever seen! Modern science still hasn’t been able to discover how the ancients did it, but you can harness the power of these space/time conundrums when Return of the Duelist hits!
Chronomalies are mostly Rock- and Machine-type artifacts. They’ve been imbued with a wide range of options, but their ancient creators preferred using a lot of easy two-card combos for Rank 3 and 5 Xyz Summons.
First up is Chronomaly Crystal Skull. The Skull is a lot like the Spell Cards you see other strategies use to add monsters to the hand, like Shien’s Smoke Signal. While you have another Chronomaly monster on the field, you can discard Crystal Skull to get any other Chronomaly monster from your Deck or Graveyard, and add it to your hand! Crystal Skull has a huge advantage over the Spells in other Decks, though. Because Crystal Skull is a monster and not a Spell, it can combo with its other half: Chronomaly Crystal Bones!
If your opponent controls a monster and you control none, you can Special Summon Chronomaly Crystal Bones from your hand. When you do that, you can also Special Summon a Chronomaly monster from your Graveyard! Use Crystal Skull to search out Crystal Bones, then pair them up for a Rank 3 Xyz Monster like Chronomaly Crystal Chrononaut!
Crystal Chrononaut is a card your opponent will want to keep away from. If they try to target Crystal Chrononaut for an attack, it’ll detach an Xyz Material to make itself completely impervious to all forms of destruction for the rest of the turn and force your opponent to take any battle damage you would have taken from its battles!
But Rank 3s aren’t the only monsters you can Xyz Summon! Chronomaly Golden Jet has the ability to increase all Chronomalies you currently control by one Level, permanently. Golden Jet can turn a Rank 3 Xyz Summon into a Rank 4 Summon instead, or you can use it to match up different monsters if you play your cards in the right order.
If you play Golden Jet, then use its effect by itself, it will become Level 5. From there, you can use your Chronomaly Moai! If you control a Chronomaly, the Level 5 Moai can be Special Summoned from your hand in Defense Position. Now you can Xyz Summon any Rank 5, such as Number 33: Chronomaly Machu Mech! Machu Mech crushes any monster whose ATK is different than its original ATK. Machu Mech will deal the difference as damage to your opponent, then gain that much ATK!
The combo of Golden Jet and Moai can also be used for Rank 6 Xyz Summons. With one Golden Jet and two Moais OR just two Golden Jets, you can Xyz Summon Number 6: Chronomaly Atlandis! With the power to absorb the power of another “Number” monster from your Graveyard, Atlandis can either increase its ATK or cut your opponent’s Life Points in half!
While they’ve got a ton of ways to match up monsters for Xyz Summons, first you’ll need to get the pieces together. With Chronomaly Technology, you can do just that. Chronomaly Technology banishes a Chronomaly monster from your Graveyard, then lets you see the top two cards of your Deck. You get to put one in your hand, and the other is sent to the Graveyard. You won’t be able to Special Summon anything but Chronomaly monsters the turn you play Technology, but that’s just about your whole Deck anyway!
Stonehenge Methods will let you replace any of your fallen Chronomalies. Whenever any of them is destroyed, you can Special Summon a new Chronomaly from your Deck in Defense Position, and it can’t change its battle position. Use Stonehenge Methods together with Crystal Skull to search out your key combo pieces like Golden Jet and Moai, then punish your opponent for destroying your cards in the first place!
We may not understand them, but with many powerful Special Summon combos and searching abilities, the abilities of the Chronomalies cannot be denied. Come witness the power of the ancients at your Return of the Duelist Sneak Peek on August 18th and 19th!
