Cosmo Blazer: Reap What You Sow
A dark new champion of the Prophecy arrives in Cosmo Blazer! Ever since the Prophecy theme debuted in Return of the Duelist, their mightiest monster has been the enlightened High Priestess of Prophecy. But Spellcaster fans have a dark new ally, and with it, an entirely new strategy available to them! Get ready to unleash the Reaper of Prophecy!
While High Priestess of Prophecy slowly uses “Spellbook” Spells by banishing them from your Graveyard, Reaper of Prophecy is different: it rewards you for hoarding those Spellbooks instead. When Reaper’s Normal or Special Summoned you can claim up to three effects, depending on how many different “Spellbook” Spells you’ve got in your Graveyard.
●3 or more: This card gains 600 ATK.
●4 or more: Add 1 “Spellbook” Spell Card from your Deck to your hand.
●5 or more: Special Summon 1 Level 5 or higher DARK Spellcaster-Type monster from your Deck.
With 2600 ATK, Reaper is more powerful than High Priestess by 100 attack points. That means it can beat monsters like Stardust Dragon, Number 39: Utopia, and Number 17: Leviathan Dragon. Its search effect helps you keep your Graveyard stocked with Spellbooks and unlocks powerful effects: you can boost Reaper to 3600 ATK with Spellbook of Power; Special Summon another strong Spellcaster with Spellbook of Life; or take your pick of three different effects with Spellbook of Fate.
Most impressively, Reaper of Prophecy never travels alone! Here are just three of the monsters you can Special Summon with Reaper’s ultimate ability:
Diagram:
If you play two copies of Reaper in your Deck, you could Special Summon a second Reaper with your first. You won’t get any effects of the second Reaper, but 2000 ATK is pretty big, and you can overlay both Reapers for a Rank 6 Xyz Summon. If you’re playing a Fortune Lady Deck with Spellbooks and have Fortune Lady Water in your Graveyard you could Summon Fortune Lady Dark. Attack with her to destroy a monster and you’ll Special Summon Water to draw two cards. And of course, you can always Summon Dark Magician and team up with Yugi’s signature monster!
But the best pick with Reaper’s ability in a Prophecy Deck is Prophecy Destroyer. With 2500 ATK, you can banish Spellbooks from your Graveyard to Special Summon Destroyer when it hits the grave. If you Summoned Reaper of Prophecy with five “Spellbook” Spells buried, you can use Reaper to fetch Spellbook of Secrets. Play Secrets to get Spellbook of the Master; use it to mimic Secrets to get another Spellbook of your choice; and you’ll have up to eight Spellbooks for Destroyer. Overlay Reaper and Destroyer for a Rank 6 like Photon Strike Bounzer, and when Destroyer’s detached you can Special Summon it back to the field. (You’ll find Destroyer and Strike Bounzer together in the Prophecy Destroyer Collectible Tin, which just dropped today!)
All three of these monsters can get Reaper of Prophecy from your Deck. Justice of Prophecy can search it out along with a “Spellbook” Spell; since Reaper is only Level 6, it’s easier to Tribute Summon than High Priestess. Temperance of Prophecy can Special Summon Reaper, but keep in mind that Temperance’s effect will keep you from using Reaper’s third ability.
The best option is definitely Fool of Prophecy. Fill your Graveyard with four different Spellbooks; Summon Fool to stack up one more; and then Tribute it to transform it into a Reaper with all three effects. Remember, it’s pretty easy to fill your Graveyard with the Fool, Spellbook of Secrets, and Spellbook of the Master.
The new “Prophecy” cards from Cosmo Blazer take a familiar theme in totally new directions! With a little help from the Fool, Reaper of Prophecy and Destroyer of Prophecy can combine their powers for never-before-seen plays. Are they the future of the Prophecy clan? You’ll have to build your own Dark Prophecy Deck to find out! You can get started at your local Cosmo Blazer Sneak Peek this weekend.
