Pyrorex the Elemental Lord
There is a question that has long plagued mankind. Scholars and philosophers have pondered its meaning since time forgotten. Kingdoms have risen and fallen over its answer. Now, it’s time for you to look deep down and ask yourself this question: What’s better than a dinosaur?
The answer is a mystical dinosaur that is on fire.
And that is exactly what you get with Pyrorex the Elemental Lord from Cosmo Blazer! Like his Elemental Lord brethren before him, Pyrorex swears his allegiance to a specific attribute. If you have exactly five FIRE monsters in your Graveyard, you can Special Summon Pyrorex and start wreaking havoc!
The Elemental Lords are known for mimicking the effects of powerful cards. Grandsoil the Elemental Lord acts like Monster Reborn, and Moulinglacia the Elemental Lord replicates Delinquent Duo. Pyrorex continues that tradition in a way only a FIRE monster can: when you Special Summon Pyrorex, you can destroy any monster of your opponent’s. Then, each player takes damage equal to half the original ATK of the destroyed monster. That should be bringing back memories for a lot of readers, because that’s very nearly the effect of Ring of Destruction, and the monster doesn’t even have to be face-up! With the effect damage backed by Pyrorex’s 2800 ATK, you could easily be dealing 4000 or more damage in a turn with Pyrorex alone!
Of course, you’ll need some FIRE monsters to play along with Pyrorex before you can start blasting stuff. Luckily for you, 2013 begins with a slew of new FIRE cards! Cosmo Blazer has more than Pyrorex itself, it also has a ton of new FIRE monsters like the Fire Fists. Since the Fire Fists are so good at Special Summoning more Fire Fists from your Deck and Extra Deck, you’ll be able to load your Graveyard quickly, then add Pyrorex’s inferno to your arsenal!
In a few weeks, there will be even more combustible goodies to be found in Structure Deck: Onslaught of the Fire Kings! The three Fire Kings work in tandem to keep a stream of effects going when they’re destroyed, and have a lot of ways to get more Fire Kings straight from your Deck. Because Fire King High Avatar Garunix is so good at clearing the field (more on that coming soon), your opponent will probably want to avoid putting more than one monster out at a time. That’s the kind of thing Pyrorex loves to exploit, destroying their monster and following up with a direct attack!
Finally, it would be improper – rude, even! – to talk about a fiery lord of dinosaurs without mentioning the Jurracs! Jurrac monsters are surprisingly good at stocking their Graveyard. Simply use Jurrac Guaiba to get another Jurrac, then Xyz Summon a FIRE monster like Evolzar Laggia – you’ve already got three FIRE monsters prepared. Jurrac Velo and Jurrac Aeolo also fill the Graveyard, while getting you the cards you want.
If you didn’t get a Pyrorex at your local Sneak Peek, you’ll have your chance again with Cosmo Blazer releases on Friday!
