A Shocking Development

January 3rd, 2001

Cosmo Blazer may be all about FIRE monsters, and while the Fire Fists and Hazy Flames may be taking centre stage, there’s something for everyone in the newest Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME set. Hidden away in this fiery set is a shocking new Xyz Monster that lets WIND strategies blow the competition away!

BZzZZzZZTt

Lightning Chidori is a Rank 4 WIND Thunder-type Xyz Monster, with 1900 ATK and 1600 DEF. When Lightning Chidori is Xyz Summoned, you get to return 1 Set card your opponent controls to the bottom of their Deck. Since you’re consolidating 2 monsters into 1, getting rid of an opponent’s Set card for free instantly makes the Summon worthwhile. But it gets even better – once per turn, you can detach 1 Xyz Material from the Chidori to return an opponent’s face-up card to the top of their Deck! Lightning Chidori makes problem cards disappear from the field, sometimes forever, clogs their draw for the next turn, and sets you up to swoop in with stronger monsters and take control of the Duel.

There are a number of ways for you to easily Summon Lightning Chidori. Once again, Rescue Rabbit is a fantastic choice, allowing you to bring 2 Luster Dragons into play from your Deck. If Dragons aren’t really your thing, you can try using Nin-Ken Dog, an 1800 ATK Beast-Warrior. For nostalgia points, you could even go for Harpie Lady, setting up combos that would make Mai Valentine proud!

Aside from Rescue Rabbit, there are some other cards you can use. Anyone who played competitively last year will remember Reborn Tengu, a mainstay in any Synchrocentric strategy. Now, he may have a different role, helping to maintain field presence until the turn that you can Xyz Summon Lightning Chidori. Along with other WIND-related cards like Genex Ally Birdman, Divine Wind of Mist Valley, and even Elegant Egotist, you’ll be able to set up an Xyz Summon in no time at all.

Once you actually Xyz Summon Lightning Chidori, the first thing that’ll happen is that you get to send a Set card your opponent controls to the bottom of their Deck. This could be a Set Spell or Trap, or it could even be a monster! If you don’t like your opponent’s Set monster, and fear that it might be a Snowman Eater, Sangan, or Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter, simply Xyz Summon Lightning Chidori and send it packing, forever. Even activating Book of Moon on a monster you really need to get rid of can help in the right situation.

Removing Set cards is great, but removing face-up cards from the field can be even better! Using Lightning Chidori’s once per turn effect, you’ll be able to put any face-up card your opponent controls on top of their Deck. Since it doesn’t destroy cards, this is perfect for preying on cards like Stardust Dragon, Wind-Up Zenmaines, and Spirit Reaper. Even cards like Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World aren’t safe from its fury. Lightning Chidori laughs in the face of any Continuous Spell or Trap as well, sending it back to the top of the Deck, ruining your opponent’s setup for a turn and forcing to redraw the same card as before.

Speaking of forcing your opponent to redraw the same card, Raiza the Storm Monarch does this too! Tribute Lightning Chidori after using its second Xyz Material for Raiza the Storm Monarch. This will leave them 2 cards down, and with 2 draws already decided for them, which puts them in a dreadful position. If your opponent has no new cards coming for a few turns, then you should be able to easily take over the Duel.

With the ability to work in any WIND strategy you can think of, Lightning Chidori can take your WIND Deck to new heights! Get it in Cosmo Blazer, which launches today!
