Behold, the Fire Kings!
Enough of this WATER monster nonsense! Those Mermails think they’re soooo mighty, but they will be nothing when those puddles they call “oceans” are boiled away! Finally, now is the time to witness the awesome power held within the Onslaught of the Fire Kings Structure Deck!
The Fire Kings laugh in the face of destruction. Each of them possesses at least one unique effect that makes them blaze ever brighter before their flames go out, so you’ll never have to worry about losing your monsters for nothing!
Leading the onslaught is the first of their order, Fire King High Avatar Garunix. Garunix sports a massive 2700 ATK and two effects to make your opponent think twice about destroying him. First off, if Garunix is destroyed by any card effect (even your own!), he’ll return to the field in your next Standby Phase and cleanse the field of all other monsters!
This effect is reminiscent of the classic Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys, which destroys Spells and Traps when it revives. (Editor’s note: It also comes in the Structure Deck!) If you have ever played with Sacred Phoenix, you know that the main way to get around it is to destroy it in battle. Luckily for you, Garunix has no fear of battle! If Garunix is destroyed in battle, he will Special Summon any other Fire King from your Deck!
Destroy Garunix with an effect, and he comes back with a vengeance. Destroy him in battle, and he brings forth another Fire King in his stead. Your opponent will be hard pressed to find a way to fight through Garunix without you coming out ahead, and Garunix is backed by the powers of two more Fire Kings!
Fire King Avatar Barong and Fire King Avatar Kirin each have two effects to work with. If either of them is in your hand, you can Special Summon them any time a Fire King is destroyed by a card effect. While both of them can replace a fallen Fire King, they each do something of their own when they are themselves destroyed.
If Barong falls by a card effect and hits the Graveyard, during the next Standby Phase, you get to add any “Fire King” card from your Deck to your hand. Any card, not just monsters – more on that momentarily.
Kirin doesn’t have the muscle of Garunix or Barong, it does have a very important role for the Fire Kings. When Kirin is destroyed (by anything) and sent to the Graveyard, you get to put any FIRE monster directly from your Deck into your Graveyard. That sets you up to use cards like Call of the Haunted and Pyrorex the Elemental Lord, as well as the first of the Fire King Spell Cards!
The Fire Kings can use their effects when they’re destroyed by either player. You can use your own cards like Torrential Tribute or Dark Hole, and of course, the Fire Kings’ own Spell Cards will help too!
The first Spell, Circle of the Fire Kings, destroys any FIRE monster you control and Special Summons another one from your Graveyard. While it works with any FIRE monster you want, your best moves will be to destroy a Fire King to trigger its effect, then revive a larger monster like Garunix. There are a ton of combos with Circle, such as destroying a Garunix to revive a Barong, then having Garunix come back to destroy Barong and search out another card with its effect. And since Circle is a Quick-Play Spell, you can use it to outsmart cards like Bottomless Trap Hole or Caius the Shadow Monarch which would normally ruin your plans.
Finally, it’s the namesake of their Structure Deck! The Spell Card Onslaught of the Fire Kings can only be activated while your opponent has monsters and you have none. You’ll get to Special Summon any FIRE Beast, Beast-Warrior, or Winged Beast from your Deck. It has its effect negated while it’s on the field, and it’s destroyed in the End Phase.
Of course, you can bring out Garunix or any of the other Fire Kings. They have no effects to negate on the field, and their Graveyard effects will be activated when they’re destroyed at the End Phase. One of the best things about Onslaught and Circle, though, is that they’re not exclusive to Fire Kings. They also work with so many other cards, like Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys or even the new Fire Fist monsters! And remember, Barong is able to search out Onslaught and Circle because they are “Fire King” cards!
FIRE monsters are kicking off the new year with the biggest of bangs! The Onslaught of the Fire Kings Structure Deck is available starting this Friday!
