Useful Searching Tips on the Card Database

April 24th, 2013

By now you have probably tried searching in the Card Database. If you haven’t, now’s the time! You’ll find it’s very easy to add your search parameters. Just click on each item you’d like included in the results, such as Types and Attributes, and add any Level or ATK/DEF values you need. While using the search function is simple, here are a few tricks to help you find exactly what you’re looking for.

Sort your search results

Once you’ve got your search results, you can sort them by Level, ATK, or DEF, in ascending or descending order. Let’s say you’re trying to find Level 4 or less Warrior-type cards, and they need to be Normal Monsters. You’d input your search requirements, and the first thing to come up? Armaill. Now, if you sort those results by ATK in descending order, you’ll see that your best choices are actually Noble Knight Artorigus, Dark Blade, and X-Saber Anu Piranha.

Use multiple search terms

When you search card names or text, the results you get will be cards that use every term you used. That means you can be as specific as you want to get smaller or larger results.

Let’s say you’re a fan of Bountiful Artemis, a card that works well with Counter Trap Cards, and you want to find more cards like it. You select “Search by Card Text” and enter “Counter” into the search bar, but you get 154 results! That’s because you’re finding every card that uses the word “Counter”, including “Counter Trap Card”, “Spell Counter”, “Ice Counter”, and many more.

If you search for “Counter Trap” instead, you are down to merely 22 results – much more manageable. You’ve eliminated most of the results you don’t want, and you can now see several cards that you could use along with Bountiful Artemis.

Use correct terminology

While searching, it helps to be aware of precisely how text is phrased on a card. We don’t have Dragon monsters, for example. We have Dragon-type monsters. If you’re trying to search card texts for simply “Dragon”, you’ll find 237 results. Searching for “Dragon-type” instead will give 96. That’s 141 less cards to get in the way of your search, just by adding “-type” to a word!

These tips will help you learn the basics of searching with the Card Database, but the best way to get the hang of it is to use it yourself. Try it out, and you’ll be able to find anything you need in a flash!
