LTGY Preview: Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack
Last week, we introduced you to the new Mecha Phantom Beast monsters, a group of WIND Machine-type monsters with effects based around Summoning Mecha Phantom Beast Tokens and manipulating them for their effects. But one Mecha Phantom Beast we didn’t cover in detail is the captain of this mechanized movement: Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack!
Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack is a WIND Machine-type monster with 2600 ATK and 2200 DEF. It’s a Rank 7 Xyz Monster, and you can use any 2 Level 7 monsters to Xyz Summon it, not just Mecha Phantom Beasts! Its effect is exactly what you’d expect from this draconic dreadnought: you can detach 1 Xyz Material to Summon 2 Mecha Phantom Beast Tokens to the field. Just like the non-Xyz Mecha Phantom Beasts, your Token infantry will protect Dracossack from being destroyed by battle or card effects, letting you dominate the field for longer. In addition to free Tokens, you can also Tribute a Mecha Phantom Beast monster once per turn to destroy any card on the field! Dracossack can’t attack during the turn you activate this effect, but being able to destroy any card for a very small cost more than makes up for that.
Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack is a Rank 7 Xyz Monster, which isn’t a trouble for a Mecha Phantom Beast Deck! Since your non-Xyz monsters gain Levels equal to the Levels of your Mecha Phantom Beast Tokens, controlling 1 Token will make your Level 4 monsters become Level 7! It’s really easy to set up in Mecha Phantom Beasts, and here’s a simple combo you can use to bring it out:
· Normal Summon Mecha Phantom Beast Megaraptor, and Set Aerial Recharge.
· During your opponent’s turn, activate Aerial Recharge and Summon 1 Token, plus another Token from Megaraptor.
· If your opponent destroys a Token, it’s ok. Tribute the other Token during the End Phase to keep Aerial Recharge.
· During your turn, Summon another Token with Aerial Recharge, and another from Megaraptor. Tribute 1 of the Tokens with Megaraptor to add a Mecha Phantom Beast Tetherwolf to your hand.
· Normal Summon it, and Summon 1 Token. If you control 2 Tokens, you can Tribute 1 of them with Tetherwolf’s effect for an ATK boost, making your 2 monsters Level 7. Then you can Xyz Summon Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack!
You may have noticed in the combo that the number of Tokens in play changes very quickly and easily. Mecha Phantom Beasts can manipulate the number of Tokens in play, allowing them to change their Levels at will. This is an important aspect of the Deck, and one which we’ll cover in the near future.
Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack is a powerhouse monster in a Mecha Phantom Beast Deck, but that’s not the only Deck it has a home in! Mermails can easily Summon 2 Level 7 monsters, and it can wall off your opponent in a similar way to Mermail Abyssgaios. You get to destroy cards too, and you can even pair the Tokens with Deep Sea Diva for an Ally of Justice – Catastor! Machina Decks can assemble 2 Machina Fortresses without much trouble, and you can even combine Machina monsters with the Mecha Phantom Beast strategy for even easier access to Level 7 monsters. My favourite place to use this card would be in Karakuris, as you can Xyz Summon it in crazy situations thanks to Karakuri Shogun mdl 00 “Burei”.
Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack allows for powerful plays in a Mecha Phantom Beast Deck, but it can also be used as a defensive and offensive tool in any Deck that can easily get 2 Level 7 monsters in play. There are heaps of applications for Dracossack, and your first chance to get one is at a Lord of the Tachyon Galaxy Sneak Peek event this weekend!
