Countdown to Number Hunters: Skypalace Gangaridai and CXyz Skypalace Babylon

May 21st, 2013

Lord of the Tachyon Galaxy released to great fanfare this past weekend! With new cards for a huge number of Decks, both past and present, there’s something for just about every Duelist out there, especially Duelists who want to crank out some of the biggest monsters in all of Dueling. With their Level-changing abilities, you can use Mecha Phantom Beasts to Summon Rank 9 and 10 monsters on a fairly regular basis, but sadly, those options are fairly limited. For now.

But it won’t remain that way for long, because the countdown to Number Hunters is on! If you haven’t heard of Number Hunters yet, be sure to read this page first, and then come on back. Every week from now until the release of Number Hunters, we’ll have a cool Deck idea to get you thinking about what you can do with some of the new cards that await you!

Gangaridai

Skypalace Gangaridai is a new Rank 10 Xyz Monster that you Summon with any 2 Level 10 monsters. It has a massive 3400 ATK – enough to beat every commonly played monster and most of the uncommonly played monsters too! But what it can’t beat in a straight fight can be destroyed by its effect. In fact, anything can be destroyed by its effect. Once per turn, you can detach an Xyz Material to destroy any card on the field, and if you do, it also knocks 1000 Life Points off your opponent’s score. Of course, it can’t attack during the same turn you use its effect, but CXyz Skypalace Babylon can!

UpgradePath

With Rank-Up-Magic Barian’s Force, you can make your orbital strike station double as a wrecking ball. Babylon does half the ATK of any monster it destroys as damage to your opponent, and if you ranked up Skypalace Gangaridai, it also gets to make a second attack afterwards, like Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning. Babylon also has 3800 ATK, enough to take out anything you’re likely to see in a Duel, short of Obelisk the Tormentor. With Skypalace Gangaridai and CXyz Skypalace Babylon, you can build a Mecha Phantom Beast Deck that specializes in throwing down Rank 10 monsters. Here’s how you can get started:

L4Focus

Focus Your Deck on the Level 4 Mecha Phantom Beasts.

Only the Level 4 Mecha Phantom Beasts are going to make it to Level 10, so you’ll want to focus more on them than the Level 3 Mecha Phantom Beasts. You’ll still want to use Mecha-Phantom Beast Hamstrat, as resolving Hamstrat’s Token Summoning effect and keeping even one of them on the field going into your own turn dramatically increases the chances that you’ll be able to Xyz Summon anything you want on your own turn. Why do you need the Tokens at the start of your turn?

Scramble

Get Scramble!! Scramble!! to Your Hand, A.S.A.P.

Scramble!! Scramble!! is one of the most powerful Quick-Play Spells ever printed. It’s an all-in-one search and Special Summon card that’s central to the best Mecha-Phantom Beast combos. Without Scramble!! Scramble!!, assembling the proper Mecha Phantom Beasts on the field can be an uphill battle, so you’ll want to see it as often as possible.

To help make sure you have it when you need it, try using Pot of Duality in your Deck. It may seem counterproductive, as your aim is to Special Summon, but Pot of Duality lets you dig through your Deck for whatever you don’t have in your hand at the time. If you have Token making cards but no Scramble!!, dig for the Quick-Play. And if the opposite is true, dig for a Hamstrat or Aerial Recharge. If you still aren’t seeing it enough, you can even try out Quick Booster from Cosmo Blazer to help search it, and other useful Quick-Plays like Mystical Space Typhoon, Book of Moon, or Limiter Removal out of your Deck.

GoodR7s

You Also Have Amazing Rank 7 Monsters!

One of the best things about Mecha Phantom Beasts is their incredibly flexible Extra Deck. You can use some of the best Xyz Monsters from a variety of different strategies along with some of the best Xyz Monsters that can go in any Deck. And one of the easiest Ranks for you to Xyz Summon is 7. That’s where you’ll find Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack, Number 11: Big Eye, and another newcomer from Number Hunters, Number 74: Master of Blades. Master of Blades has a cool 2700 ATK and cuts down any card or effect that targets him and then takes down another card in retribution. If you find you’re stuck with only 1 Token, don’t try to force the Rank 10 Summon if a Rank 7 monster will help!

Skypalace Gangaridai and CXyz Skypalace Babylon are incredibly powerful, but they aren’t the only Xyz/Chaos Xyz pair Mecha Phantom Beasts have easy access to. With enough Tokens and a Scramble!! Scramble!!, you can also Summon Number 105: Battlin’ Boxer Star Cestus and rank it up to Number C105: Battlin’ Boxer Comet Cestus for more huge damage and destruction capabilities. And you can use them right now, while you count the days till Number Hunters hits on July 12th!
