Countdown to Number Hunters: CXyz Simon the Great Moral Leader

June 21st, 2013

Now that Super Starter: V for Victory is on shelves, it’s even easier to build a Deck that can take advantage of Norito the Moral Leader and his ranked-up form, CXyz Simon the Great Moral Leader. Yuma’s Gagaga Magician was once the poster child for easy Level matching for Xyz Summons. Now he’s more of a poster uncle, joined by Gagaga Child, a Special Summon-able Level matching friend!

Norito

“Gagaga” cards have been sprinkled throughout almost every set since Generation Force, but it’s only in the past few months that a true Gagaga strategy has been available. The combo of Gagaga Magician and Gagaga Girl was tough to put together, because you needed to either Summon both in one turn, or have one survive until your next turn so you can Normal Summon the other.

With Gagaga Wind from Lord of the Tachyon Galaxy, you can Special Summon the missing piece from your hand, and with Gagaga Child, you trade the ATK sapping power of Gagaga Girl for more speed, except in cases where you use them together. This is a case where one card doesn’t replace the other, they supplement each other and increase the variety of moves a Gagaga Deck can make.

Last time, we focused on Norito the Moral Leader, so this time we’ll focus more on his upgraded form, CXyz Simon the Great Moral Leader. Two things stand out about Simon right off the bat. First, he’s got 3000 ATK, bigger than every commonly played monster, including monsters from the Extra Deck. Second, it’s completely unaffected by other monster effects so all those smaller monsters have almost no recourse against him.

NoritoUpgrade

The monsters that do stand a chance, generally do so because they have some kind of battle immunity, but if you rank-up Norito into Simon with Rank-Up-Magic Barian’s Force, even this is no obstacle. During either player’s turn, a ranked-up Simon can change the battle position of an enemy monster and negate all its effects until the end of the turn. So a theoretically immune Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack loses its protection from destruction and becomes vulnerable.

But no monster becomes more vulnerable than a Set monster. Simon doesn’t care whether the target is face-up or face-down, he still changes its battle position and negates its effects. So even if you’re trying to wall up behind Tokens, Simon can switch them to Attack Position and punch through them for massive damage. If you’re trying to defend with monsters like Spellbook Magician of Prophecy to build up Spellbooks so you can Spellbook of Fate Simon away, he’ll negate the Magician’s effect and then crush him for massive damage.

And don’t even think about taking Simon out in battle. If you try, he can just switch your attack to Defense Position and then strike back at it next turn. You can get your hands on Norito the Moral Leader and CXyz Simon the Great Moral Leader starting with the release of Number Hunters on July 12th!
