Don’t Overlook This Card! – Pinpoint Guard
Every now and again, a card is released that’s clearly powerful, but doesn’t end up seeing a lot of play. You never want to lose track of these cards because they have a habit of popping up when you least expect them and suddenly appearing all over the place! Pinpoint Guard is one such card – even though it’s not being used a lot right now, it’s extremely powerful and works really well in a lot of Decks, so it could wind up everywhere in the future. Here’s why you shouldn’t overlook Pinpoint Guard!
Pinpoint Guard allows you to Summon a Level 4 or lower monster from your Graveyard in Defense Position when your opponent declares an attack. There are no restrictions on what you can Summon, either – if it’s Level 4 or lower, Pinpoint Guard can Summon it! In addition, that monster is also protected from being destroyed by battle or card effects during this turn. Since you Summon the monster in Defense Position, you’re protected from battle damage and that monster is unable to be destroyed! Not only does Pinpoint Guard prevent your opponent from attacking your Life Points, but it also returns an important monster to your side of the field, and your opponent can’t do much about it.
Since Pinpoint Guard protects the monster from destruction until the end of the turn, you’re guaranteed to start your turn with a monster on the field, barring a card that bounces your monster to the hand or Deck. This is a big boon for some strategies that take time to set up their combos. It works great with Mecha Phantom Beasts, as you can bring back a Level 4 Mecha Phantom Beast, Normal Summon Mecha Phantom Beast Tetherwolf next turn, and instantly Xyz Summon Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack! Mecha Phantom Beast Megaraptor is great for this, as it’ll give you a second Token to Tribute for a search before you Xyz Summon.
Brotherhood of the Fire Fist- Bear is another fantastic choice, since it can destroy the monster your opponent attacked with, attack your opponent directly, and get another Fire Formation along with setting you up for a Rank 4 Xyz Summon! Pinpoint Guard gives you a monster a monster to set up all of these combos easily, giving you exactly what you need to make a powerful counterattack.
A number of popular Decks have powerful, low-level monsters that they usually want in play. While you can often search these monsters from your Deck, getting a second chance at playing them from the Graveyard is great as well. Bujin Decks work pretty well with Pinpoint Guard, as the entire Deck revolves around the protection of Bujin Yamato. It’s great in Noble Knights too, as you can bring back Noble Knight Medraut, and ensure that he stays on the field until your next turn. There are a ton of other great monsters you can use Pinpoint Guard with, like Geargiarmor, Ninja Grandmaster Hanzo, and Harpie Channeler, although you can use it with any Level 4 or lower monster. With Pinpoint Guard you’re able to recuperate if things go wrong, and get back a combo piece you need to use on your turn.
Pinpoint Guard allows you to take the cards you want to use, and lets you use them a lot more often, while giving you protection in the process. It’s a powerful card and it’s definitely one to keep an eye on. Try using a copy of Pinpoint Guard or two in your Deck – you might be surprised at the results!
