The Lady of the Lake
Last time around we showed you the first of the five new Noble Knight cards you’ll find in November’s Shadow Specters release. All five have never been printed anywhere in the world before, and today we’re going to reveal another one – the very first Tuner for the Noble Knight strategy!
Lady of the Lake’s a Level 1 Aqua-Type Tuner. You can only use it to Synchro Summon Warriors, and if it’s used for a Synchro Summon you banish it. Since most Noble Knights are Level 4, you’ll generally use it to make Level 5 Warrior Synchros. You could use it with Level 5’s to make Level 6 Synchros like Gravity Warrior or Gaia Knight, the Force of Earth, buts its first effect aims it squarely at Level 5 Synchro Summons:
When this card is Normal Summoned: You can target 1 “Noble Knight” Normal Monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon that target.
Pretty sweet! When you Normal Summon Lady of the Lake you can revive Noble Knight Artorigus and make a Level 5 Synchro Summon. For now, that unleahes monsters like these…
Scarred Warrior’s a really good pick, because if you control Noble Knight Drystan or Noble Knight Borz, it protects those monsters while you use their effects; Scarred Warrior’s ability keeps your opponent from attacking any of your Noble Knights until they deal with Scarred Warrior first. That’s not easy to do, since Scarred Warrior’s second effect saves it from defeat once a turn.
On the other hand, X-Saber Wayne lets you Special Summon a Level 4 or lower Warrior from your hand when it’s Synchro Summoned. That’s a much more aggressive ability, but it can lead to big damage and even bigger combos. Both of these monsters can wield most Noble Arms, since all but one of them can be equipped to any Warrior.
But that’s not all. Lady of the Lake also works from your Graveyard too, thanks to her second ability:
If this card is in your Graveyard: You can target 1 Level 5 “Noble Knight” monster you control; reduce its Level by 1, and if you do, Special Summon this card from the Graveyard.
So if you control a Level 5 Noble Knight you can reduce it to Level 4, Special Summon back Lady of the Lake, and then leave the Lady on the field to block attacks or Tune it to your Level 4 to make a Level 5 Synchro. Here are three Noble Knights that can fill that Level 5 role:
If you control Ignoble Knight of Black Laundsallyn, you can bump it down a Level to make an instant Level 5 Synchro. That’s obvious. But Noble Knight Medraut and Noble Knight Borz each have effects that boost them to Level 5 when they’re equipped with a Noble Arms. That means you can do stuff like this:
-Normal Summon Noble Knight Medraut.
-Equip Medraut with a Noble Arms, and activate its effect.
-Special Summon Noble Knight Borz from your Deck, and destroy Medraut’s Noble Arms.
-Equip that Noble Arms to Borz from your Graveyard.
-Activate Borz’s effect to get another Noble Arms from your Deck, sending two more to your Graveyard.
-With Borz at Level 5, reduce its to Level 4 and Special Summon Lady of the Lake.
-Xyz Summon a Rank 4, or tune Lady of the Lake to Borz or Medraut for a Level 5 Synchro.
If you Synchro Summon Scarred Warrior with Medraut and Lady, you’ll protect your Defense Position Borz and use its effect again next turn. If you Tune with Borz instead, you’ll protect Medraut with Scarred Warrior. Just remember that you can’t use Medraut’s Special Summon while you control another monster. Alternatively, you can Synchro Summon the new Level 5 Noble Knight Synchro Monster and keep your combos rolling, but more on that next week.
Finally, you can leave Lady of the Lake on the field in Defense Position as an 1800 DEF roadblock and Xyz Summon with your 2 Level 4 Noble Knights. Remember, Lady of the Lake is only banished if you use her to Synchro Summon, so as long as you can keep Summoning Level 5 Knights, you can Summon her back repeatedly to block attacks or be used as a Tribute for cards like Enemy Controller.
To play Lady of the Lake from your hand and make a one-card Synchro, you need Noble Knight Artorigus in your Graveyard. You can also play the Lady from your Graveyard as well, but you’d need to send her there in the first place. That makes a strong case for Foolish Burial; it sends either card straight from your Deck to your Graveyard to set up your combos. Definitely consider playing it in your Noble Knight Deck once Shadow Specters arrives, at your Sneak Peek on the November 2nd weekend!
