Why is everyone talking about Gear Gigant X?

December 10th, 2013

You may have heard some murmurs about Gear Gigant X being back in a big way over the past week, and it’s true! Samuel Pedigo took first place at the 125th YCS in Turin using his Geargia Deck, powered by everyone’s favourite shades-wearing giant robot Xyz Monster! Here’s why it’s so darn good.
ShademanGear Gigant X is made of 2 Level 4 Machine-Type monsters and can add any Level 4 or lower Machine from your Deck or Graveyard to your hand, just by detaching a Xyz Material! That makes it good in basically every Machine Deck out there, but in a dedicated Geargia Deck you’ll also get to Summon a Level 3 or lower “Geargia” monster from your Graveyard when it leaves the field. It has 2300 ATK, so your opponent has to get rid of it before you get a chance to detach its Materials. But if they do and you’re running a Geargia Deck, you’ll get a monster anyways. Both situations are good for you and bad for your opponent, making Summoning Gear Gigant X a high priority in your Duels! While Gear Gigant X is most at home in Geargias where you can get that extra monster even when you lose your Gigant, it’s a fantastic addition to any Deck with Level 4 Machines, like Machinas, Gadgets, or combinations of the two.

One of the coolest things about Machine Decks is that they often have heaps of ways to search for the right monsters and cards they need. Machina Gearframe can add any Machina monster to your hand; the Gadget trio put another Gadget into your hand when they’re Summoned; and Geargia Decks can shift into overdrive if Geargiarmor is left alone for too long. And those are just some of the great Level 4 monsters that you can use to make Gear Gigant X! With Gear Gigant X, free cards turn into even more free cards, and you’ll easily be able to overwhelm your opponent with them.

Gear Gigant X is also great in strategies that aren’t quite as good at searching for cards. Mecha Phantom Beasts rely on Mecha Phantom Beast Megaraptor to get their searches going, and without Tokens to Tribute you can be left high and dry. Gear Gigant X gives you easy access to every monster in your Deck even if you don’t have Megaraptor or a supply of Tokens. One of the best cards to help you Summon Gear Gigant X is Tin Goldfish, a Level 4 Machine that can Special Summon a Level 4 monster from your hand. Pair it up with another Machine monster, Xyz Summon Gear Gigant X, and then grab whatever monster you need!

Gear Gigant X is a powerful monster that fits into almost any Machine Deck around. All it takes is 2 Level 4 Machines, and in certain Decks you can Summon it for free and use it to get even more free cards! If you’re looking for a new card to include in your Machine Deck, or for a compelling reason to pull out your old Machine Deck, crack open a Tempest, Dragon Ruler of Storms Collectible Tin and grab a Gear Gigant X of your own!
