Even the Odds with Evilswarm Exciton Knight!

January 7th, 2014

There are lots of exciting cards in Legacy of the Valiant, but Evilswarm Exciton Knight might be the most exciting of them all! When an opponent amasses more cards than you, Exciton Knight levels the playing field – literally! Evilswarm Exciton Knight is easy to Summon in lots of different Decks, and its devastating Quick Effect is tough to stop.

DestroyEverythingOnce per chain, during your Main Phase or your opponent’s Battle Phase, if your opponent has more total cards in their hand and their side of the field than you do: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; destroy all other cards on the field, also your opponent takes no further damage this turn (this is a Quick Effect).

You can Xyz Summon Evilswarm Exciton Knight by combining any 2 Level 4 monsters. That makes it a breeze to Summon in nearly every popular Deck, including Fire Fists, Mermails, Blackwings, Gravekeeper’s, Six Samurais, Gadgets, Gladiator Beasts, and Zombies. Just about every Deck uses Level 4 monsters, and all of those Decks can Summon Evilswarm Exciton Knight.

Even though you can use Evilswarm Exciton Knight in just about any Extra Deck, it’s extra effective when used with “lswarm” Decks. Since Evilswarm Exciton Knight is an “lswarm” monster, you can protect it from Spells and Traps with Infestation Pandemic, or banish it with Infestation Terminus to return 2 of an opponent’s cards to his or her hand.

All Decks can also benefit from Exciton Knight’s effect. No matter what Deck you’re using, you’ll sometimes find yourself in the unfortunate position of having fewer cards than your opponent, desperate to clear your opponent’s field before it wipes you out. Evilswarm Exciton Knight lets you do that.

You can only activate Exciton Knight’s effect to destroy all other cards on the field when the total number of cards in your opponent’s hand and on your opponent’s field is greater than the total number of cards in your hand and on your field. Usually, that’s when you’re behind in a Duel and can benefit most from a field-clearing effect. After you activate Exciton Knight’s effect to destroy all other cards, you can use your Knight to lead the charge against your opponent later in the Duel. You won’t be able to deal damage to your opponent during the turn you activate Exciton Knight’s effect, but using its effect will open the path to deal damage later on.

Also, remember that Xyz Materials aren’t considered cards on the field. So just by Xyz Summoning Exciton Knight in a situation where you’re even with your opponent, like in the opening turns of a Duel, you’ll create the condition necessary to use Exciton Knight’s effect and dissuade your opponent from putting more cards on the field.

Since Evilswarm Exciton Knight’s effect is a Quick Effect, it’s also tough to stop. You can use Exciton Knight’s effect during your own Main Phase or during your opponent’s Battle Phase, giving you lots of opportunities to pull off its field-clearing power. Even if an opponent negates its effect once with Effect Veiler during your Main Phase, he or she will still need to find a way to destroy it before it can use its effect again during that opponent’s next Battle Phase. Otherwise, your opponent’s entire field will be destroyed. Plus, even after you use Evilswarm Exciton Knight’s effect once to clear the field, it’ll still have another Xyz Material that you can detach to use its effect again if the need arises.

Evilswarm Exciton Knight works best against Duelists who quickly play lots of cards onto the field. After the release of Legacy of the Valiant, Duelists will need to adapt to a world in which lots of different Decks can Summon Evilswarm Exciton Knight, and will need to be more cautious when they go to make big moves. Expect to see Evilswarm Exciton Knight in all sorts of Extra Decks in just a couple of weeks!
