More Obedience Schooled Combos!

February 26th, 2014

When we took our first look at Legacy of the Valiant’s Obedience Schooled, we talked about how it lets you do stuff like Synchro Summon Naturia Beast for one card: by Special Summoning two Level 2 EARTH Beasts plus Key Mouse, you can unleash one of the most devastating Synchros ever and lock your opponent out of their Spell Cards.  We also discussed how you could play Obedience Schooled in Fabled and Ojama Decks, offering big opportunities those Decks never had before.

But guess what?!  That was just the tip of the iceberg.  Today we want to show you some even bigger plays, with more monsters, bigger bosses, and cooler combos.  Let’s kick it off with a two-card trick that lets you Summon one of the most powerful Fusion Monsters of all time!

Schooled
Sealed

Sure, you can Obedience Schooled for Naturia Beast.  But why not go even bigger?  Naturia Exterio has a whopping 2800 ATK, and while Naturia Beast can only negate Spell Cards, Exterio negates spells and traps.  That’s awesome because while it can be tough to risk attacking with Naturia Beast – a simple Mirror Force or Dimensional Prison could rob you of your strong position in the Duel – Exterio protects itself and locks your opponent out of as much as half of their Deck.

And it’s easy!  Just play Obedience Schooled for two Level 2 Earths and a Key Mouse, make Naturia Beast, and Normal Summon The Earth – Hex-Sealed Fusion.  The Earth’s ability lets it replace Naturia Barkion as a Fusion Material Monster, and you can Tribute it and Beast from the field to Special Summon Exterio instead of Fusion Summoning it, bypassing Exterio’s material restriction.  It’s a ridiculous first-turn opening that can win the game, as long as you can ward off monster effects like Brotherhood of the Fire Fist – Bear.

Seconded

Drawing a Level 2 Beast you don’t have an immediate use for can be tough.  You want a card like Kalantosa, Mystical Beast of the Forest to stay in your Deck where you can Special Summon it for its effect, but if you draw it, you can recover and make a big combo with Obedience Schooled.

How?  Just Obedience for three Level 2 Beasts.  Normal Summon Kalantosa or any other Level 2 Beast you don’t have an immediate use for, and you can overlay them for two Number 64: Ronin Raccoon Sandayus.

Not only will that let you Special Summon two Kagemusha Raccoon Tokens, but the Ronin Raccoons will protect each other with their effects.  As long as you control another Beast-Type monster, Ronin Raccoon can’t be destroyed.  So if you have two Ronin Raccoons on the field at once, your opponent can’t attack through them, nor destroy them with card effects.  Summon them in Defense Position and your opponent will have to get really creative to power through your wall of fur.

Barbaros
Beast King Barbaros
is awesome with Obedience Schooled, creating not one, but two powerful combos!  You can Tribute three monsters to Tribute Summon Barbaros, and when you do, it destroys all of your opponent’s cards with its ability: monsters, Spells, Traps – everything.  Obedience Schooled gets you the three Tributes you need, so your two-card combo can blow away your opponent’s field to let Barbaros swing for 3000 Battle Damage.

And that’s just the beginning!  If you run the Level 2 Tuner Elephun, you can Synchro Summon one of the biggest new monsters from Legacy of the Valiant.  Just Special Summon two Level 2 Beasts plus Elephun with Obedience Schooled, then Normal Summon Barbaros.  Overlay two of your Level 2’s for Number 64: Ronin Raccoon Sandayu, then Tune Barbaros and Elephun for Leo, the Keeper of the Sacred Tree!  Leo has 3100 ATK, so activate Ronin Raccoon’s effect and Special Summon a 3100 ATK Kagemusha Raccoon Token.

That combo puts 7200 ATK on the field, with a protected Ronin Raccoon and a Level 10 Synchro Monster that’s almost invincible.  It’s a huge Turn 1 play against decks like Fire Fists, and it can put enough damage on the table to win the Duel in an instant.

That’s not all Elephun’s good for!  Even if you don’t play Barbaros, you can run Elephun instead of Key Mouse and make more powerful Naturia Beast plays.

With a hand of Obedience Schooled and any Level 2 Beast, play Obedience for two Level 2 Earth Beasts and Elephun.  (If you had Elephun in your hand already, you can grab another Level 2 Earth Beast instead.)  Overlay two Level 2’s for Ronin Raccoon Sandayu, then Special Summon a Level 1 Kagemusha Raccoon Token. Then Tune Elephun, your remaining Level 2, and the Token together for Naturia BeastNaturia Beast will protect Ronin Raccoon from destruction as long as it stays on the field, and next turn you can Summon another Kagemusha Raccoon Token.

There are tons of awesome cards to play with Obedience Schooled, and the combos above are just some of our favorites.  Try it out yourself and see what combos you can find!
