The Fast and the Feathered
Crow was one of the most popular Duelists of the 5D’s era, and his Blackwing Deck was one of the most successful TV strategies of all time! Cards like Black Whirlwind, Blackwing – Gale the Whirlwind, and Blackwing – Kalut the Moon Shadow beguiled real-world competitors and won Championships, but some of Crow’s best cards never made the jump from TV to real life.
…Until now! Dragons of Legend brings some of the most-wanted Crow cards into the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG, including his ultimate Trap Card, Black Sonic!
Mirror Force is one of the most popular traps ever printed, but it has one weakness: not all monsters can actually be destroyed. Cards like Number 101: Silent Honor ARK, Bujintei Kagutsuchi, and the mighty Stardust Dragon drove a lot of Duelists to play Dimensional Prison over Mirror Force these past few months; while Prison can only eliminate one monster at a time, and Mirror Force can take on everything your opponent’s got, the risks just weren’t worth it to some.
But the good news? Black Sonic is like Mirror Force 2.0 for Blackwings, smashing all those monsters that Mirror Force can’t touch! Since Black Sonic banishes monsters instead of destroying them it plays around everything from Honor ARK and Maestroke the Symphony Djinn, to Bujingi Hare, Forbidden Dress, Beelze, and Safe Zone. While Mirror Force was weak to monsters that resist destruction, Dimensional Prison’s weakness was that it targets – Black Sonic doesn’t do that either, so as long as you control a Blackwing it’s better than both cards.
And you can even play it straight from your hand! You have to Set Mirror Force and Dimensional Prison before you can activate them, but if you control exactly 3 “Blackwing” monsters, you can play Black Sonic with no warning – Effect Veiler would be envious.
How tough is it to field three Blackwings at once? Not very! You can Special Summon an extra Blackwing from your Deck with Blackwing – Shura the Blue Flame, or revive one from your Graveyard with Blackwing – Blizzard the Far North. You can also bounce any face-up card you control to your hand and Special Summon Blackwing – Zephyros the Elite from your Graveyard. You can bounce Black Whirlwind, keep it safe in your hand for a turn, then activate it again a turn later.
Besting some of the greatest Trap Cards in Dueling history and ousting some of the most popular Decks in competition today, Black Sonic couldn’t arrive at a better time! Blackwings started taking Regional Top 8’s in the last few months, and with the power of new Rank 4’s like Number 101: Silent Honor ARK and Evilswarm Exciton Knight giving Shura, Bora, and Zephyros a new lease on life, it’s time for this strategy to take to the skies once again.
Get ready rev up your Blackwing Deck with Dragons of Legend, on April 25th!
