Where else can I use the new Lightsworn cards?
The Realm of Light Structure Deck has the first new cards for Lightsworn Decks in years! But some of the newcomers aren’t just awesome in Lightsworn Decks – they’ve got a ton of potential in other strategies, too!
Raiden, Hand of the Lightsworn might be the most popular of the new “Lightsworn” monsters. In a dedicated Lightsworn Deck, Raiden can send more cards to your Graveyard in one turn than any other Lightsworn you can Normal Summon without Tribute – two in your Main Phase, and two more in your End Phase, every turn. Its 1700 ATK makes it a solid attacker; its Warrior-type lets you search it with Reinforcement of the Army; and its status as a Level 4 Tuner makes Synchro Summoning a snap – something Lightsworn have struggled with until now. But you can play Raiden in other Decks as well…
Lots of Decks score powerful effects if you can get the right monsters into your Graveyard, and Raiden’s abilities can help you stack up strong plays. Bujins protect their attackers with cards like Bujingi Turtle and Bujingi Hare; Raiden can send those cards straight to your Graveyard, unlocking Bujingi tricks and stocking your Graveyard for Bujincaration and Bujin Hirume.
Speaking of Bujincarnation? It’s great with Raiden! Bujincarnation lets you Special Summon two Bujins, but it carries a restriction: you can’t Xyz Summon with those monsters unless the Xyz Monster is Beast, Beast-Warrior, or Winged Beast-Type. The good news? You don’t have to Xyz Summon at all, and your Synchro Summons aren’t restricted!
-Special Summon two Bujins like Bujin Yamato and Bujingi Hare with Bujincarnation
-Normal Summon Raiden and use its effect
-Then Tune Hare and Raiden together for a Level 8 Synchro Summon!
Yamato will stay on the field to use its effect in the End Phase; Hare will sit in your Graveyard to protect it; and you’ll get a free Level 8 Synchro Monster.
Dragon Rulers love Raiden too. You can revive Dragon Rulers for free by banishing Dragon-Types and monsters of matching Attribute from your Graveyard. Raiden’s abilities help you load up on cards to banish, and if you get lucky you might even get your Dragon Rulers in the Graveyard to Special Summon them. Bring back a Dragon Ruler at Level 7, Tune it to Raiden, and you can Synchro Summon one of the deadliest cards in the Dragon Ruler arsenal – the mighty Star Eater!
Michael, the Arch-Lightsworn is the newest boss monster in the Lightsworn pantheon. A Level 7 Synchro with 2600 ATK and an effect that lets you pay 1000 Life Points to banish any card from the field, all you need to Summon it is any Tuner, and any LIGHT non-Tuner Synchro Material. That means Michael can fit into plenty of popular LIGHT strategies if you sneak in a few Tuners.
Bujins can Synchro Summon Michael with any Level 4 “Bujin” monster plus a splashed Level 3 Tuner – think Psychic Commander or Genex Ally Birdman. Decks like Noble Knights and Constellars can do it too, since they run plenty of Level 4 LIGHTs. A Level 2 Tuner like Krebons or Plaguespreader Zombie could let you make the same play with a Level 5 “Artifact” monster like Artifact Moralltach or Artifact Beagalltach.
Some decks already have the monsters you need to Summon Michael. The new Synchro powerhouse is a big boost for Fabled: you can Tune Fabled Grimro to Fabled Kushano and unleash Michael, clearing the way for your swarm of Fiends. Or you could upgrade a Level 4 “Fabled” Synchro, like The Fabled Kudabbi or The Fabled Unicore instead. If you run Fabled Raven you could even Tune it to Fabled Ragin: Synchro Summon Ragin to draw two cards, roll it into Michael, and you can banish another card for free!
A lot of Decks that make low-Level Synchro Summons can play Michael too, since Armory Arm’s a Level 4 LIGHT non-Tuner. It’s a popular card for Synchron strategies or anything that aims to Summon Shooting Quasar Dragon, so there are tons of scenarios where you could wind up Synchro Summoning Armory Arm, then Tuning it to a Level 3 like Junk Synchron for Michael. Many of those decks run cards like Spore, Dandylion and Doppelwarrior, which all provide bonuses in the Graveyard; that means Michael’s End Phase effect could be useful as well.
Monsters like Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress and Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter have a history of appearing in non-Lightsworn strategies, and new cards in the Realm of Light Structure Deck continue that tradition! Could the new “Lightsworn” monsters be helping your Decks?
