Secrets of Eternity:

January 8th, 2015

Qliphorts are renowned for one thing: their ability to press relentlessly, attacking turn after turn with a growing armada to punch through your opponent’s defenses. While Qliphort Carrier can bounce away monsters and Qliphort Helix can destroy Spells and Traps, the bulk of the strategy relied on mounting aggression: you steadily add Qliphorts to your swarm, because any Qliphort that’s Tributed or destroyed simply winds up back in the Extra Deck so you can Pendulum Summon it again next turn.

But Secrets Of Eternity raises the stakes even higher. Qliphort Stealth is the most powerful removal effect in the Qliphort arsenal: when you Tribute Summon it by Tributing one or more “Qli” monsters, you can target any card on the field and return that card to its owner’s hand. It looks a lot like Carrier’s effect, but Stealth can bump anything from the field instead of just monsters.

And the kicker? Your opponent can’t respond to the activation of Qliphort Stealth’s ability.

That’s awesome, because it means that whatever you target, your opponent can’t respond to your Summon with traps like Torrential Tribute or Bottomless Trap Hole. You can Tribute Summon your 2800 ATK beatstick, bounce away your opponent’s lone monster, and your opponent will take that damage when you attack.

Your opponent can’t Chain the card you target if you decide to punt a backrow, either. Removal like Fire Lake of the Burning Abyss, Phoenix Wing Wind Blast, or Compulsory Evacuation Device won’t get Qliphort Stealth off the field if you target it. Breakthrough Skill, Fiendish Chain, and Skill Drain will bounce away before your opponent can Chain them to stop your effect. And even cards like Mystical Space Typhoon, Dust Tornado, and Call of the Haunted won’t have a chance to activate.

But that’s not the coolest part. Qliphort Stealth’s protection ability can actually shield other Qliphort effects on the same Chain…

ImprovedLink
As Chain Link 3, Qliphort Stealth’s effect is the only one that can be Chained to by your opponent. Except they can’t, because the card says they can’t. That means you’ll…

-Bounce any card from the field with Stealth’s ability.

-Destroy a Spell or Trap Card with Helix’s effect.

-Then bump a monster back to the hand or Extra Deck with Carrier.

Three powerful effects, and your opponent can’t do anything to dodge them, negate them, or otherwise mitigate them. That’s a ton of field-clearing power. If you can follow up with a Pendulum Summon you very well might win right then and there, and you can still activate cards like Saqlifice to boost your ATK.

For two Tributes, or one Tribute and a Saqlifice, Qliphort Disk creates more pressure by accelerating two more attackers to the field; that makes for huge Pendulum Summons on following turns. Qliphort Shell could attack twice and deal massive damage against an undefended opponent. Both of those cards win games. But Qliphort Stealth creates win scenarios in a different way, offering vicious spot removal on its own and comboing with cards you already played to make them even better.

Qliphort Stealth brings unstoppable removal to the Qliphort theme, and it’s going to make a big impact on tournament competition. Grab yours this weekend at the Secrets of Eternity Sneak Peek!
