Return of the Bling – Exodia the Golden One
If there’s one word that resonates most with fans of the original animated Yu-Gi-Oh! series, it’s this one: Exodia.
The Exodia set is comprised of 5 separate cards. On its own, each piece of Exodia holds very little power. But when a Duelist assembles all 5 pieces of Exodia in his or her hand, that Duelist automatically wins the Duel!
Exodia’s power is displayed in the very first episode of the original animated Yu-Gi-Oh! series. After the reigning World Champion, Seto Kaiba, rips up Solomon Muto’s prized Blue-Eyes White Dragon and sends Solomon to the hospital, Solomon’s grandson, Yugi, challenges Kaiba to a Duel in order to avenge his grandfather.
The odds were stacked against Yugi. Kaiba possessed the three most powerful monsters in the game – the three Blue-Eyes White Dragons – and Yugi had only his grandfather’s Deck. Moreover, Seto Kaiba was the World Champion. Yugi was a nobody. He was a student at Domino High School, and appeared to possess no incredible skills.
But at the very last moment in Yugi’s Duel against Kaiba, Yugi snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. Against all odds, when all hope for his triumph seemed to be lost, Yugi drew the final piece of Exodia from his Deck. With all 5 pieces of Exodia in his hand, Yugi defeated the World Champion.
The Exodia cards were heralded as the most powerful cards in existence in the animated television series. As long as Yugi possessed them, he was unbeatable. Shortly after using the Exodia cards to defeat Kaiba, however, Weevil Underwood threw Yugi’s Exodia cards into the ocean, preventing Yugi from ever using them again.
Now it’s your turn to wield the power of Exodia!
Duelists have been using Exodia Decks since 2002, when the Exodia cards were first released in the Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon booster set. These Decks typically revolved around drawing lots of cards as quickly as possible in order to take a fast victory with Exodia, or stalling out opponents in order to slowly draw all 5 pieces of the Forbidden One. Over a decade later, the basic strategies used by most Exodia Duelists remains the same. You can use these same strategies, or create new Exodia strategies of your own.
