What is World Superstars?
World Superstars launches in less than 20 days, but what is World Superstars anyway? Read on to find out!
Not every card that’s released in Japan makes it over to our shores in the same way or at the same time. Similarly, not every card released over here makes it to Japan in the same way or at the same time, and the same applies to Korea with respect to both Japan and the rest of the world. World Superstars is, in the long tradition of trading card games, a really big trade! You could even call it a cultural exchange. We’re trading cards that have only been available in Europe/Oceania/the Americas for 50 cards that have only been available in Japan and Korea, and we’re collecting them all in one new booster pack!
But that’s not all! In addition to all these new cards, we’re bringing back some pieces of the past as well. For one, you’ll be able to get your hands on Legendary Dragon of White and Legendary Magician of Dark, a pair of not-allowed-in-a-Duel cards that were given to the top 8 competitors of the 2012 World Championship in Tokyo. And we’re going even further back than that! The 18 Secret Rares in World Superstars will be “prismatic” Secret Rares. “Prismatic” Secret Rares are Secret Rare cards whose foiling pattern similar to the very first batches of video game promotional cards from the dawn of Dueling, such as the soon-to-return Sinister Serpent. As someone who played the early video games and got a lot of use out of the cards they came with, I’m pretty thrilled about the return of this foil pattern!
So what kind of cards can you expect to see in World Superstars? A whole lot of Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL era cards to for starters! There are new Chronomaly, Heraldic Star Seraph, Heroic Challenger (and Champion!), Gagaga/Gogogo/Dododo, Battlin’ Boxer, and Galaxy cards. There are Number monsters, including the first and only Xyz Monster with no Rank Stars. There’s also a new Mecha Phantom Beast, a new Ghostrick, and a new Elemental HERO! On top of all that, there are even powerful cards with no themed affiliations, such as Pendulum Impenetrable and Earthshattering Event.
I’m confident that everyone out there will find at least one card they love out of World Superstars, even if they aren’t fans of the ZEXAL series. Many of the ZEXAL cards are the tricky sort of cards I talked about a few weeks back that are attached to a particular theme by name but also work great in other Decks, so be on the lookout for those! And while you’re at it, be on the lookout for special previews of World Superstars on the Strategy Site, starting today!
