The Duelists of Darkness: Bakura’s Multiple Destruction and Marik’s The Winged Dragon of Ra – Sphere Mode

June 17th, 2015

The remaining 2 new cards from Duelist Pack: Battle City were wielded by a pair of villains who held a rare Duel against each other in-between rounds of the Battle City tournament: Bakura’s Multiple Destruction and Marik’s The Winged Dragon of Ra – Sphere Mode!

ReversalOfFortune
In his losing effort against Marik, Bakura used Multiple Destruction to try and knock The Winged Dragon of Ra out of Marik’s hand. Multiple Destruction is a Trap that you can use when both players have 3 or more cards in their hand. It forces both players to put their current hands on the bottom of the Deck and draw a new hand of 5 cards. You then lose 300 LP for every card that went back from the Deck. Why do this?

The biggest advantage of Multiple Destruction is its ability to offset the lack of a normal draw on the very first turn of the Duel. More specifically, if you go first, you can use this card to put your opponent back at a disadvantage, though you’ll be down 2700 LP for doing so. By playing one of the cards out of your starting 5 and Setting Multiple Destruction, you can activate it on your opponent’s Draw Phase to change their 6 card hand into a 5 card hand, while swapping the rest of your hand for 5 new cards and keeping the other card you played to the field – a role reversal! The one card you play out of your original starting hand had better be a good one though, because you’ll need to work harder to make it through your opponent’s turn intact!

The Winged Dragon of Ra – Sphere Mode is what Mai encountered when she thought she used Amazoness Chain Master to pilfer Marik’s Egyptian God Card right out of his hand! Unfortunately, she found that only the true master of Ra could wield its power and was defeated shortly thereafter. The Winged Dragon of Ra – Sphere Mode can be Normal Summoned to either side of the field by Tributing 3 monsters on that side of the field.

While it’s on the field, The Winged Dragon of Ra – Sphere Mode can’t participate in battle or be targeted by enemy card effects. It just hovers above the field ominously until the End Phase of the next turn, at which point control of the card is given to the owner of Ra. While you control The Winged Dragon of Ra – Sphere Mode, you can Tribute it to Summon out The Winged Dragon of Ra from your Deck (ignoring its Summoning conditions) and set its ATK and DEF to 4000, without the need to pay any LP! That leaves you plenty of LP to spend on burning away your opponent’s monsters 1 at a time to clear a path for your Egyptian God Card’s attack!

In addition to all these villainous new cards, Duelist Pack: Battle City also has 42 other cards used by heroes and villains alike from the classic Yu-Gi-Oh! era. You can get your hands on these cards for the first time this Friday, June 19th!
