Tear Down Opposition with The Claw of Hermos!
We’ve already taken a look at Seto Kaiba’s Legendary Dragon, The Fang of Critias, so next up is Joey Wheeler’s Legendary Dragon: The Claw of Hermos!
Like The Eye of Timaeus and The Fang of Critias, The Claw of Hermos is a Normal Spell Card that lets you Special Summon powerful monsters from your Extra Deck by giving up one of your other cards. But unlike The Eye of Timaeus and The Fang of Critias, which each require you to have a specific card in order to activate them, The Claw of Hermos is much more flexible.
The Claw of Hermos lets you send one monster from your hand or your side of the field to the Graveyard with a Type listed on a Fusion Monster that can only be Special Summoned with The Claw of Hermos. Then, you can Special Summon that Fusion Monster. You can use The Claw of Hermos with any Spellcaster, Dragon, or Warrior, since there are Fusion Monsters for each of those three types.
There are four different monsters that can be Summoned via The Claw of Hermos, and all four of them equip themselves to another monster after they’re Summoned. Check them all out!
Monster #1: Time Magic Hammer (Spellcaster)
You can Summon Time Magic Hammer by sending a Spellcaster-Type monster from your hand or field to your Graveyard with The Claw of Hermos. Time Magic Hammer only has 500 ATK by itself, but if it’s Summoned, you target 1 other face-up monster on the field and equip it with your Time Magic Hammer. If your monster equipped with Time Magic Hammer battles an opponent’s monster, at the start of the damage step, you can roll a six-sided die. Then, your opponent’s monster is banished for a number of turns equal to the number you roll on your die.
Since Time Magic Hammer allows your monster to temporarily banish any monster that it battles at the start of the damage step (effectively “sending it into the future”), your opponent will be unable to defeat any monster equipped with Time Magic Hammer in battle. There are lots of popular Spellcasters that you can use to Summon The Claw of Hermos, including several different Shaddoll monsters and the Mathematician. If you use The Claw of Hermos to send a Shaddoll monster to your Graveyard, you’ll get to activate your Shaddoll monster’s effect, too!
Monster #2: Red-Eyes Black Dragon Sword (Dragon)
You can Summon Red-Eyes Black Dragon Sword by sending a Dragon-Type monster from your hand or field to your Graveyard with The Claw of Hermos. Red-Eyes Black Dragon Sword has 2400 ATK. If there’s another monster on the field when you Summon Red-Eyes Black Dragon Sword, you equip your Red-Eyes Black Dragon Sword to that monster and it gains 1000 ATK, plus an additional 500 ATK and DEF for each Dragon-Type monster on the field and in all Graveyards.
In a dedicated Dragon Deck, Red-Eyes Black Dragon Sword is easy to Summon (for example, by sending The White Stone of Legend to your Graveyard with The Claw of Hermos) and it can greatly increase the ATK and DEF of your equipped monster.
Monster #3: Rocket Hermos Cannon (Warrior)
You can Summon Rocket Hermos Cannon by sending a Warrior-Type monster from your hand or field to your Graveyard with The Claw of Hermos. Rocket Hermos Cannon has 1500 ATK. If Rocket Hermos Cannon is Special Summoned, it becomes equipped to another face-up monster on the field. A monster equipped with Rocket Hermos Cannon can attack twice during each Battle Phase and inflicts piercing damage to your opponent.
Monster #4: Goddess Bow (Warrior)
You can Summon Goddess Bow by sending a Warrior-Type monster from your hand or field to your Graveyard with The Claw of Hermos. Goddess Bow has 1500 ATK and equips to another face-up monster on the field if it’s Special Summoned. Goddess Bow bestows a unique protection upon the monster wielding it. While equipped, Goddess Bow negates the first effect activated by your opponent during each Battle Phase, and if it does negate an effect, it allows the equipped monster to attack twice during that Battle Phase.
Rocket Hermos Cannon and Goddess Bow have awesome effects, and either one of these cards can be Summoned by combining Hermos with any Warrior. There are lots of popular Warrior-Type monsters in the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME, including all of the Satellarknights, all of the Six Samurais, Exiled Force, D.D. Warrior Lady, and Bull Blader. You can use any one of them with The Claw of Hermos to Summon Rocket Hermos Cannon or Goddess Bow.
The Claw of Hermos is a cool card that fits into a variety of different Decks. You can try it out in your Deck after the release of Dragons of Legend 2 on July 17th!
