Clash of Rebellions: Storming Mirror Force

July 24th, 2015

Most Duelists know that Mirror Force is an amazing card. When an opponent’s monster attacks, Mirror Force will destroy all of your opponent’s Attack Position monsters. The possibility that you may have Mirror Force face-down will usually make your opponent think twice before attacking with a field full of monsters.

Recently, Duelists have been employing various methods to cushion or negate the impact of Mirror Force’s activation. Some monsters can’t be destroyed by Mirror Force, and other monsters have effects that activate when they’re destroyed by Mirror Force. By attacking while those monsters are face-up on the field, Duelists are able to circumvent the potential for a devastating setback by Mirror Force.

But Clash of Rebellions introduces a brand new Trap Card that can have the same devastating impact of Mirror Force, without the weaknesses that have been exploited by recently popularized Decks. Clash of Rebellions presents Storming Mirror Force!

Like Mirror Force, you can activate Storming Mirror Force when your opponent’s monster declares an attack. But instead of destroying all of your opponent’s Attack Position monsters like Mirror Force would, Storming Mirror Force returns those monsters to your opponent’s hand instead.

At first glance, it might seem like destroying your opponent’s monsters is always better than returning them to your opponent’s hand. Generally, a card that is sent to your opponent’s hand can be reused by your opponent. But sending an opponent’s monster back to his or her hand is actually more beneficial than destroying it in many instances.

Many popular monsters, including El Shaddoll Winda, Stardust Spark Dragon, and Number 101: Silent Honor ARK, protect themselves from destructive effects like the effect of Mirror Force, but are powerless against cards like Storming Mirror Force, which return them to the hand. And since they’re all monsters that are Summoned from the Extra Deck, any time they’re returned to the hand, they’re sent back to the Extra Deck instead.

Several other popular monsters that are Fusion, Synchro, or Xyz Summoned have effects that activate if they’re sent to the Graveyard by a card like Mirror Force. El Shaddoll Construct, El Shaddoll Shekhinaga, Stellarknight Triverr, Stellarknight Delteros, Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss, and Virgil, Rock Star of the Burning Abyss all have effects that activate if they’re sent to the Graveyard, but can be returned to the Extra Deck with Storming Mirror Force without consequence.

Storming Mirror Force is a cool card that’s capable of handling many tough-to-defeat monsters. You can get your hands on Storming Mirror Force at the Clash of Rebellions Sneak Peek on August 1st and 2nd!
