The Dark Illusion: Old Magicians, New Tricks

July 23rd, 2016

In The Dark Illusion, the oldest magician in the game is going to learn a ton of new tricks! Today, we’re going to take a look at some new Spell Cards and a new Trap Card that will vastly improve Dark Magician Decks!

Dark Magical Circle
is a new Continuous Spell Card with two separate effects, each of which can be used once per turn.

  • When you activate Dark Magical Circle, you get to look at the top three cads of your Deck. If you find a Dark Magician or a Spell or Trap Card that specifically names the card Dark Magician in its text among those three cards, you can add that card to your hand and place the other two cards back on top of your Deck in any order.

Dark Magical Circle makes it easy for you to find your Dark Magician, or an old Dark Magician support card like Dark Magic Attack, Dark Magic Curtain, or Thousand Knives.

You can also use Dark Magical Circle to find the new Dark Magician Spell and Trap Cards available in The Dark Illusion. Illusion Magic, for example, is a new Quick-Play Spell Card that lets you Tribute a Spellcaster to add up to two Dark Magicians from your Deck or Graveyard to your hand. Dark Magic Expanded, which is another Quick-Play Spell Card available in The Dark Illusion, has three separate effects that activate based on the number of Dark Magicians and Dark Magician Girls on the field and in the Graveyards.

Dark Magical Circle
can also grab The Dark Illusion’s new Trap Card, Magician Navigation, from your Deck.

Magician Navigation
lets you Special Summon a Dark Magician from your hand, and then Special Summon a Level 7 or lower DARK Spellcaster from your Deck. Between Summoner’s Art, Dark Magical Circle, and Illusion Magic, it’s really easy to get Dark Magician in your hand so you can activate this card.  It’s perfect for doing exactly what the art depicts: Summoning Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl to the field to fight together!

Magician Navigation also has an effect that activates in your Graveyard. If you control Dark Magician (except during the turn that Magician Navigation is sent to the Graveyard), you can banish Magician Navigation from your Graveyard to negate the effect of an opponent’s face-up Spell or Trap Card until the end of the turn. This works just like cards like Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss and Contrast HERO Chaos, so you can basically negate any Normal Spell or Trap your opponent plays in addition to switching off cards like Phantom Knights’ Fog Blade for a turn.

Dark Magical Circle’s second effect helps to permanently get rid of your opponent’s most troubling cards.

  • If Dark Magician is Normal or Special Summoned to your field while Dark Magical Circle is face-up, you can target 1 card your opponent controls and banish it.

The second effect of Dark Magical Circle is easy to activate. Simply Special Summon Dark Magician using cards like Dark Magic Veil, Dark Magic Curtain, or Magician Navigation, and you’ll be able to banish anything your opponent throws at you. You can only use this effect once per turn, but you can use it during each player’s turn if you Summon a Dark Magician with something like Magician Navigation during your opponent’s turn!

Dark Magical Circle, Magician Navigation, Illusion Magic, and Dark Magic Expanded give Duelists piloting Dark Magician Decks new and exciting strategies to explore. You can try them out at the upcoming The Dark Illusion Sneak Peek on July 30th and 31st!
