Legendary Decks II is on its way, but first…

September 22nd, 2016

Legendary Decks II presents a modern take on what Yugi, Kaiba, and Joey’s Decks might have looked like if the original animated series had continued on till the present day. In fact, many of the newer cards you’ll see in these Decks have already been used by those characters… albeit in special event Duels held at the biggest Yu-Gi-Oh! events of the year. We’ll talk more about the Decks themselves as we get closer to the launch of Legendary Decks II, but for now we’ll stick with the 3 new cards in Legendary Decks II that anyone who’s working on a Dark Magician Deck with the cards from The Dark Illusion is surely looking forward to: Eternal Soul, Dark Burning Attack, and Dark Burning Magic!

There are many ways to build a Deck based on Yugi’s most famous monsters. You could run a pure Dark Magician Deck, you could combine Dark Magician with Dark Magician Girl and the other Magician Girls, or you could even run a Deck based on keeping your hand full and making use of Silent Magician from Duelist Pack: Rivals of the Pharaoh. Regardless of which route you choose, if you’re using Dark Magician, you can use Eternal Soul.

Dark Magical Circle
is one of the key cards in a Dark Magician Deck, and the only we to keep it banishing a card every turn is to have a constant source of Summoning available for your Dark Magicians. Eternal Soul is that source, allowing you to Summon a Dark Magician from your hand or Graveyard once during each turn. For more heavily dedicated Dark Magician Decks, it can alternatively search out a Dark Magic Attack or Thousand Knives instead. On top of all that, Eternal Soul protects every Dark Magician you control from enemy card effects. Watch out though, because Eternal Soul will destroy all of your monsters if it leaves the field. You can take advantage of this, however, by using Magician of Dark Illusion in your Deck. Destroying your monsters is a Trap effect that activates, often during your opponent’s turn, fulfilling the condition for activating Magician of Dark Illusions’s “Summon me” effect!

Joining Eternal Soul are Dark Burning Attack and Dark Burning Magic. Dark Burning Attack is the Dark Magic Attack equivalent for Dark Magician Girl. If you control a face-up “Dark Magician Girl” monster, you can use Dark Burning Attack to destroy all your opponent’s face-up monsters. Dark Burning Magic is a Spell representing the combined forces of Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl! If you control both Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl, no substitutes or fakers accepted, you get to wipe your opponent’s field clean. Every card they control is destroyed. Dark Burning Magic is a Quick-Play Spell, so you can unleash it on your opponent’s turn, and it specifically names the card Dark Magician, so it can be searched out with Magician’s Rod or added to your hand with Dark Magical Circle (as can Eternal Soul).

What’s the best way to get Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl on the field at the same time so that you can use Dark Burning Magic? Well, Magician Navigation can Summon them both while setting you up to negate a Spell/Trap Card in the future, so it’s our number 1 pick. If that’s not an option, Eternal Soul and the various “Magician Girl” monsters can do the job. Finally, if you can get at least one of them into play with any other monster, Magical Dimension can Summon the other from your hand and destroy a monster your opponent controls.

Legendary Decks II launches in 2 weeks at an OTS near you, October 7th everywhere else. Stay tuned over the next two weeks to learn more about the Decks themselves!
