Crucial New D/D Cards From Pendulum Domination

January 20th, 2017

D/D/D is a powerful strategy known for explosive combos, but the new “D/D” monsters from the Pendulum Domination Structure Deck are a game changer for the strategy. D/D/D gets a boost in speed, removal, and defense all from these new tools, and the impact of one of them will likely throw D/D/D into the competitive spotlight. While I’m normally a fan of saving the best for last, D/D Lamia is so good that it’s definitely worth talking about first.

D/D Lamia
might not look too impressive at first as a Level 1 Tuner with weak ATK, but its powerful acceleration effect is what puts it over the top. Quickly Summoning Tuners has always been a way to make powerful plays, and D/D Lamia doesn’t need much help to start you off. Whenever it’s in your hand or Graveyard, you can send a “D/D” or “Dark Contract” card from your hand or your field to the Graveyard to Special Summon it! While it will be banished when it leaves the field the impact it’ll make is huge, and if you can manage to Xyz with it then you can get around this. At Level 1, the options on what you can do with it are endless. If you were around for the days that Formula Synchron and T.G. Hyper Librarian were best friends, D/D Lamia will let you easily make powerful Synchro combinations just like that with ease.

D/D Lamia can help you get D/Ds into the Graveyard to help your combos, and when combined with other D/Ds it can really get out of hand. D/D Berformet can manipulate D/D Lamia’s Level to really open up your Synchro options, or help you stack it for an Xyz Summon so that it doesn’t count as “leaving the field.” If you can manage to Summon either D/D/D Flame King Genghis or D/D/D Gust King Alexander, you can get even larger bonuses when you Special Summon D/D Lamia because both of these will trigger to get you another D/D Monster from your Graveyard onto the field. What’s better than getting a Tuner into play quickly? How about a getting a Tuner into play and then getting a Synchro Material alongside it practically for free!

While D/D Lamia is super powerful, it’s not the only sweet new D/D from Pendulum Domination. D/D Orthros is a Level 4 Pendulum Monster with 600 ATK and 1800 DEF, but with two very different effects that can help you out of some tight situations. Its Pendulum Effect will let you target a Spell/Trap on the field along with a D/D or Dark Contract you control so you can destroy them both! Very similar to the effect of Scrap Dragon or The Phantom Knights of Break Sword, being able to clear the way for your larger plays or getting rid of a pesky Spell or Trap that is getting in the way of your combos is huge. Its Monster effect will let you Special Summon itself from your hand when you take damage, so you can either combo it with your Dark Contracts or use it defensively when your opponent is trying to beat you down with their Monsters. You will be prohibited from Special Summoning anything but Fiends for the rest of the turn, but whether you’re using it as a last line of defense or just starting off more D/D combos, that doesn’t really matter.

Last but not least, D/D/D Cursed King Siegfried is an awesome Synchro Monster with 2800 ATK and 2200 DEF at Level 8. Its first effect will let you target a face-up Spell/Trap on the field and negate it until the next Standby Phase, so you can use it to either turn off your Dark Contracts to ensure you don’t take damage, or use it to stop a threatening Continuous card like Anti-Spell Fragrance. You can even do some cool stuff like turn off your own Vanity’s Emptiness just so that you aren’t locked under it during your own turn, and then it’ll turn back on during your opponent’s Standby Phase! Don’t forget that Normal Spell/Trap Cards are also face-up on the field when they’re activated and you can negate them as well. Pair Siegfried with another huge Extra Deck monster and you’ve got a winning combination!

D/D/D Cursed King Siegfried also has another effect, that when it’s destroyed and sent to the Graveyard you gain 1000 Life Points for each Dark Contract you control! Managing your Life Points as a resource is super important for D/D/D Decks, as multiple Dark Contracts can make things very costly very quickly. Having a way to rebuy some Life Points is always nice when you’re losing so much, and it can make it more difficult for your opponent to win the Duel through your D/D/D Cursed King Siegfried.

These three cards are only in the Pendulum Domination Structure Deck that launches today.
